PA Program Name Change

submitted by paprog@augsburg.edu

Following approval by the School of Health Faculty, UCAP, the Faculty Senate, and the Board of Regents, Augsburg’s PA program has officially undergone a name change from the Physician Assistant Program to the Physician Associate Program. This change brings together the Master of Science in Physician Associate Studies and Doctor of Medical Science degrees into a combined Department of Physician Associate Medicine in the School of Health.

The name change aligns Augsburg’s programs with the professional title adopted nationally by the PA profession—a shift that aims to more accurately reflect PAs’ scope of practice, credentials, and role in delivering high-quality health care. The change will ensure consistency with professional standards and accreditation, while positioning Augsburg to support broader efforts across the state to modernize PA terminology in legislation and public understanding.

Office Moves and Mail/Package Deliveries

submitted by longj@augsburg.edu

If you are changing office spaces please let Central Services know once you are in your new space so we can make sure your mail and packages will continue to reach you.

Mail Room
The campus boxes are mostly assigned to the whole department and delivered to the department office or work hub. If the new office will be near the same location, we will not need to change anything with your campus box. If the whole department is moving we will need to update where the department campus box is delivered. If it is just part of the department or a single person we will talk to see if opening a personal campus box or changing what department box your mail is delivered to will work best. If your department would like to change to the be on the mail run or to picking up their mail from their campus box please email mailship@augsburg.edu and talk with Jeni Long.

Shipping/Receiving
Packages are delivered to the location listed for you in the Inside Augsburg Directory. During the academic year we will try to deliver to people’s personal offices first and will then deliver to the department’s office/work hub unless a different delivery location has been previously set up by the department. During the summer we will deliver to the department office/work hubs. The package system, QTrak, is normally updated once a month. Please email IT to have your information updated, Central Services does not have access to update the Inside Augsburg Directory.

If your department would like to change how the whole department receives mail or packages please email mailship@augsburg.edu and talk with Jeni Long. If you would prefer to pick up your packages instead of having them delivered to your department office, please let us know you would like to be added to the Do Not Deliver list by emailing mailship@augsburg.edu.

Campus Boxes Closing May 15

submitted by longj@augsburg.edu

As we near the end of another year please don’t forget to take care of your campus mailbox. This includes checking it for any mail, returning your lock and filing out the survey for what you would like us to do with your mail after this semester.

One weeks after the spring semester ends (on May 15, 2025) we will close all student campus boxes unless you responded to the End of Year survey. If you would like your mail forwarded or would like to keep your mailbox open for the summer, please fill out the form
(https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSeA6NyaiFZI2pFW_1SD6hEHCflfjaZ00b1ZRyzbqLNKp78SXA/viewform?usp=header).

Before the fall semester starts we will reassign campus boxes to all residential students. Without completing the survey, it will most likely be a different number.

We are only able to forward 1st Class USPS mail. Packages must be looked at case by case. Some USPS will allow forwarding. (Reply to the Augsburg package email and we will look at that package.) Other packages (UPS, FedEx, Amazon, etc.), magazines, non-profit mail and standard mail will not be forwarded. We can also only forward to USA addresses. The forwarding period for the Augsburg Mailroom is two months from when the request is submitted. Afterward any additional mail we receive will be returned to sender.

We request that you contact the people/business sending you mail and update your address with them. Augsburg is classified as a business so you will not be able to do so through the US Post Office itself. Enrolling in online/electronic bills or statements can also be a smart option, it is environmentally friendly, secure and will often save you time (and sometimes money). Asking us to forward your mail does not change your mailing address with the USPS or Augsburg University, just with the Mailroom.

New Passphrase Requirement Coming: May 12

submitted by krajewsk@augsburg.edu

On May 12 we will be moving from passwords to passphrases for the campus. You are not required to do anything at that time. But on or after May 12 when you change your password the new rules will apply. For most of our “average” folks, who do not have access to institutional data for their job, once you change to a passphrase you will not need to change it again. For more details read our Passphrase FAQ. https://sites.augsburg.edu/it/get-help/passphrases-faq/

Fall 2026, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 2:00 – 3:30 p.m.
Gen Ed Requirement: Social and Behavioral Sciences

How do the people around you influence and even shape the way you think, the way you feel, the way you behave? How do individuals relate to one another within the groups in which they participate? And what impact do group dynamics have on their members as well as on the world around them? In this course, we introduce the field of social psychology from a sociological perspective as we examine topics such as self and identity, socialization, emotions, attitudes and prejudice, group and collective behavior, and deviance and social control.

Where Is Your Mail Going?

submitted by longj@augsburg.edu

Register Now for Vocation of Lutheran Higher Education Conference

submitted by coleda@augsburg.edu

Each year, members of the National Network of ELCA Colleges & Universities (NECU) gather to explore the distinctive roles we play in higher education. The theme of the 2026 conference is “Beyond Walls, For the Common Good: Lutheran Higher Education and Civic Responsibility.”
In an age marked by polarization, inequality, and public distrust, Lutheran higher education is uniquely called to witness to faith active in love through its contributions to the civic and common good. The 2026 Vocation of Lutheran Higher Education Conference invites participants to step “beyond walls” — of campus, culture, and comfort — to rediscover how core values of faith and sharing “good news” shapes our shared responsibility for the world.
Rooted in the Lutheran tradition of two kin-doms and vocation as service to neighbor, this gathering explores how our institutions embody public faith: nurturing civic imagination, moral discernment, and courageous leadership. Together, we will examine how Lutheran colleges and universities can help heal the social fabric, cultivate democratic engagement, and advance justice for all people through education that integrates faith, reason, and the call to serve.
The conference begins at 5:00 pm on Monday, July 13 and ends at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, July 15.

The registration fee is waived for Augsburg participants and meals (lunch and dinner) are provided to Augsburg participants free of charge. The deadline for registration is Monday, June 22. If you have questions about registration, please contact Darcia Cole (x1732 or coleda@augsbug.edu or visit https://www.augsburg.edu/ccv/vocation-of-lutheran-higher-education-conference/

Mental Health Impact of Operation Metro Surge—Participate and Invite Others

submitted by velamcco@augsburg.edu

Members of the Augsburg Community,

You are invited to participate in a study focusing on the mental health impact of Operation Metro Surge, in which the Department of Homeland Security sent approximately 3000 ICE and Border Control agents to the Twin Cities beginning in December 2025 and officially lasting through mid-February of 2026.

Prof. James Vela-McConnell, in the Department of Sociology here at Augsburg, is conducting an anonymous survey that is intended to further document the impact of this event on our community and ourselves and you are invited to participate. This online survey should take approximately 30 minutes and can be completed at your convenience. At the end of the survey, you will have the opportunity to enter a raffle for one of six $50 gift cards or one of eight $25 gift. Alternatively, the raffle winners may choose to donate the value of their gift card to a local organization working to support immigrant residents of the Twin Cities metro.

To take the survey, check your emails for your invitation to participate or simply click on the link below for the flyer with the link & QR code.

Also, we are hoping to include as many residents of the Twin Cities area as possible in this research on the mental health impact of Operation Metro Surge. Please feel free forward the flyer and invite your local family, friends, neighbors, etc. to participate. In addition to the entire Augsburg community, anyone who lives and/or works in the Twin Cities metro region and is 18 years of age or older may participate.

Thank you in advance for your participation.
