Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, begins tonight at sundown. It is the first of the High Holy Days which culminates ten days later with the holiday of Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashanah means “the head of the year,” and is one of Judaism’s holiest days. The Hebrew phrase Shanah Tovah is used to wish someone a Happy New Year.
