Join us for a Focused Conversation on Augsburg’s budget for the next fiscal year. John Coskran, associate vice president and CFO, will present a review of Augsburg’s operating model and expense structure and an overview of the fiscal 2023 operating budget approved by the board of regents at its May meeting. John will also present some details of Augsburg’s operating model to provide context and background for the university’s operating budget.

Applications are Now Open for the 2022-23 PRISM Scholars Program

The PRISM program is designed to support Augsburg juniors and seniors who wish to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Funded by the National Science Foundation, PRISM Scholars receive scholarships of up to $10,000 per student per year. Scholars also become a part of the STEM community at Augsburg with opportunities for summer research, faculty mentoring, and career development.

Eligibility:
– Enrolled at least half-time in a STEM major (biology, biopsychology, biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, or physics)
– Within 5 semesters of graduating with a STEM degree as of Fall 2022 (graduating by December ‘24)
– Major GPA of 2.75 or higher (scholars will be expected to raise their GPA to 3.0 during program participation)
– U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident
– Demonstrated financial need as determined by financial aid status (Pell or MN State grant eligible or equivalent)

Application deadline: Wednesday, May 18 at 11:59pm
Faculty reference deadline: Friday, May 27 (applicants should get permission from one faculty member to serve as their reference and name them in their application)

Students who began their college careers at community colleges are encouraged to apply as well as students who began at Augsburg.

MNUDL Volunteer Opportunity: Seeking Finance Professionals to Judge Financial Literacy Debates

You’re Invited! Judge Debates & Network with Students on May 21st!

The MN Urban Debate League is looking for financial professionals that identify as female or gender non-conforming to judge at our annual Financial Literacy Debate tournament this year!

You do not need debate experience to be a judge. We will provide training and opportunities to ask questions prior to the tournament, and will also be available to support you during the tournament.

Financial Literacy Debate is an innovative program that supports students’ public speaking, critical thinking, and financial literacy skills and knowledge. Our program works to close the gender gap in the financial sector by building the leadership and financial knowledge of high school participants that identify as female or gender non-conforming, through debate. Over the course of the initiative, students meet with their coach after school, learn about the topic area and fundamental economic concepts through an engaging curriculum, hold practice debates, and participate in a competition with other schools.

Our tournament this year is tentatively scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 21 from 9:30 am – 2:30 pm at Augsburg University. The tournament schedule will be as follows:

· 9:30 am: Judge training

· 10:00 am: Judge three debate rounds about the benefits/harms of cryptocurrency

· 1:00: Lunch and networking between students and financial professionals

· 2:00: Awards Ceremony

· 2:30: End

Tuesday: 12:30-3:30pm
Wednesday: 3-6pm

All groceries are free!

You can also join Campus Kitchen in the Food Lab this summer every Tuesday 2-4pm and Wednesday 4-6pm for open cooking hours!

We will provide all the kitchen equipment and some basic ingredients, and you can bring any extra ingredients for yourself (or stop by the Campus Cupboard on your way!).

MnTech Foundation Scholarship Applications – Now Open

Greetings! It is that time of year again!

We are currently accepting applications for the Minnesota Technology Foundation Scholarship. The scholarships are for Minnesota undergraduate students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. These awards range from $2,500 to $5,000 awards and can include internship opportunities at MN Tech member companies. The Minnesota Technology Foundation supports diversity in this application and award process.

We also have Named Scholarships in specific areas supported by our generous sponsors. In the past, we have provided scholarships in Computer Science, STEM Education, Data Science, Women in STEM, Underrepresented Populations in STEM and Women in Computer Science. We encourage you to let students know of this additional and exceptional opportunity.

Eligibility requirements:

Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in a STEM field or in STEM teaching
Only students with sophomore through senior academic status in the current school year may apply. Sophomore status may include students who have achieved this status through advanced placement (AP) credit or post-secondary options (PSEO)s
Applicants must be enrolled at an accredited, Minnesota-based higher education institution.
Scholarships will be awarded in the fall term of 2022 and presented to recipients at Minnesota Technology Association Tekne Awards in November. Students must be enrolled at time of award.

Special Circumstances

In addition to traditional STEM fields, health science majors whose studies will NOT lead to participation in direct patient care are welcome to apply.
The scholarship is open to international students, but preference is given to students who intend to work in Minnesota after graduation.
Past scholarship winners are eligible to re-apply as long as they meet the rest of the requirements listed here.

Augsburg University Annual Anti-Racism Training

During the June 9, 2020, town hall for faculty and staff, President Pribbenow announced seven new equity initiatives born out of response to the murder of George Floyd and Augsburg’s renewed commitment to accelerate and expand upon our university’s efforts to promote equity and inclusion during a national moment of racial and social justice reawakening. One of these initiatives was the requirement of Augsburg faculty and staff to complete an annual anti-racism training.

If you haven’t already attended the Augsburg University Annual Anti-Racism that took place this past fall or spring semester, you need to attend the make-up training taking place this Thursday, May 12 at 2:30–6:00 p.m. via Zoom.

“3 Days in May” Returns to Campus May 10-12

Augsburg’s “3 Days in May” is an annual Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) event focused on providing professional development opportunities (and socializing) designed for Augsburg teaching faculty and staff. However, all members of the Augsburg community are welcome! This year’s “3 Days” will take place Tuesday, May 10th – Thursday May 12th from 9am – 4pm in the Hagfors Center.

Please click on the link below to access the program & schedule for “3 Days in May”. Each day’s schedule is in blocks with 30 minute breaks between sessions and a 90 minute break for lunch. Breakfast, mid-morning, and afternoon snacks will be provided, but lunch is on your own. Please note that the 3-4pm session on Tuesday, May 10th is “open time” designed to be used by departments, committees, groups, etc. as a flexible time to meet.

Collaborative Gift for Incoming First-Year Students

Faculty, Staff and Administration,

Would you like to be a part of creating a collaborative gift for our incoming first year students?

Stop by our “Collaborative Workshop” on Wednesday, May 11th anytime between 2:00-4:30pm in Old Main 100 (Painting & Drawing Studio).

We will be creating a large painting (approximately 4-foot x 15-foot) together that will then be cut up into 500+ bookmarks for our incoming first-year students! This year at Opening Convocation, each first-year student will be provided a bookmark to keep as a welcome gift from all of us.

Purpose of May 11th Workshop: to be in community together, learn, experiment and collaborate on creating a gift for our incoming first-years.

Workshop Details:
Materials provided. No art experience required. Come and go as you please.

Purpose of Gift for Students: To create a sense of connection and belonging to our Augsburg community, to remind them that we are all here to support them.

MN Urban Debate League Seeks Paid Judges in May and June

The Minnesota Urban Debate League, a program of Augsburg University, is seeking debate judges for our Spanish Debate League and East African Debate programs. These programs serve middle and high school students at Minneapolis Public Schools, Saint Paul Public Schools, and select suburban partners and charter schools. Both programs are led by community members, who have taken the policy debate format, and tweaked it to support their students’ growth and engagement.

Judges will earn $55 per virtual tournament. No speech & debate experience is needed to be a judge, though it can be helpful – we will fully train you. More things to know:

* Judges listen to debates, provide constructive feedback, and pick a winner. In the process, they help students build confidence and academic skills like critical thinking, deep listening, and argumentation.

* Judges for our Spanish Debate League must be fluent in Spanish.
East African Debate League tournaments are held in English. (You do not have to be East African to judge, but the topic of the debate pertains directly to the community- what are the pros and cons of attending an integrated public school vs. a culturally-specific charter school?).

* Both types of judges must pass a background check and have a supportive, educational mindset.

Tournaments on these dates will be all virtual! Tournaments are generally held from 4:00-7:00 PM on weeknights. We plan to announce any in-person tournaments at a later date, which will be held in the Twin Cities area.

We will provide all the kitchen equipment and some basic ingredients, and you can bring any extra ingredients for yourself (or stop by the Campus Cupboard on your way!).

“3 Days in May” Returns to campus May 10-12

Augsburg’s “3 Days in May” is an annual Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) event focused on providing professional development opportunities (and socializing) designed for Augsburg teaching faculty and staff. However, all members of the Augsburg community are welcome! This year’s “3 Days” will take place Tuesday, May 10th – Thursday May 12th from 9am – 4pm in the Hagfors Center.

Please click on the link below to access the program & schedule for “3 Days in May”. Each day’s schedule is in blocks with 30 minute breaks between sessions and a 90 minute break for lunch. Breakfast, mid-morning, and afternoon snacks will be provided, but lunch is on your own. Please note that the 3-4pm session on Tuesday, May 10th is “open time” designed to be used by departments, committees, groups, etc. as a flexible time to meet.

Augsburg University Annual Anti-Racism Training

During the June 9, 2020, town hall for faculty and staff, President Pribbenow announced seven new equity initiatives born out of response to the murder of George Floyd and Augsburg’s renewed commitment to accelerate and expand upon our university’s efforts to promote equity and inclusion during a national moment of racial and social justice reawakening. One of these initiatives was the requirement of Augsburg faculty and staff to complete an annual anti-racism training.

If you haven’t already attended the Augsburg University Annual Anti-Racism that took place this past fall or spring semester, you need to attend the make-up training taking place on Thursday, May 12 at 2:30–6:00 p.m via Zoom.

MNUDL Volunteer Opportunity: Seeking Finance Professionals to Judge Financial Literacy Debates

You’re Invited! Judge Debates & Network with Students on May 21st!

The MN Urban Debate League is looking for financial professionals that identify as female or gender non-conforming to judge at our annual Financial Literacy Debate tournament this year!

You do not need debate experience to be a judge. We will provide training and opportunities to ask questions prior to the tournament, and will also be available to support you during the tournament.

Financial Literacy Debate is an innovative program that supports students’ public speaking, critical thinking, and financial literacy skills and knowledge. Our program works to close the gender gap in the financial sector by building the leadership and financial knowledge of high school participants that identify as female or gender non-conforming, through debate. Over the course of the initiative, students meet with their coach after school, learn about the topic area and fundamental economic concepts through an engaging curriculum, hold practice debates, and participate in a competition with other schools.

Our tournament this year is tentatively scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 21 from 9:30 am – 2:30 pm at Augsburg University. The tournament schedule will be as follows:

· 9:30 am: Judge training

· 10:00 am: Judge three debate rounds about the benefits/harms of cryptocurrency

· 1:00: Lunch and networking between students and financial professionals

· 2:00: Awards Ceremony

· 2:30: End

We are currently accepting applications for the Minnesota Technology Foundation Scholarship. The scholarships are for Minnesota undergraduate students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. These awards range from $2,500 to $5,000 awards and can include internship opportunities at MN Tech member companies. The Minnesota Technology Foundation supports diversity in this application and award process.

We also have Named Scholarships in specific areas supported by our generous sponsors. In the past, we have provided scholarships in Computer Science, STEM Education, Data Science, Women in STEM, Underrepresented Populations in STEM and Women in Computer Science. We encourage you to let students know of this additional and exceptional opportunity.

Eligibility requirements:

Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in a STEM field or in STEM teaching
Only students with sophomore through senior academic status in the current school year may apply. Sophomore status may include students who have achieved this status through advanced placement (AP) credit or post-secondary options (PSEO)s
Applicants must be enrolled at an accredited, Minnesota-based higher education institution.
Scholarships will be awarded in the fall term of 2022 and presented to recipients at Minnesota Technology Association Tekne Awards in November. Students must be enrolled at time of award.

Special Circumstances

In addition to traditional STEM fields, health science majors whose studies will NOT lead to participation in direct patient care are welcome to apply.
The scholarship is open to international students, but preference is given to students who intend to work in Minnesota after graduation.

Lindell Library is pleased to introduce our newest colleague: Paul Lai, Student Success Librarian. Paul comes to us from both Walden University, where he assisted users with research writing and copy editing, and the Ramsey County Library System where he taught digital literacy courses and coordinated programming on the arts and literature. Paul has a BA from Yale and MA from UNC Chapel Hill, both in English Literature, a graduate certificate in Culture Studies from UNC Chapel Hill, and his MLIS from St. Kate’s. Prior to becoming a librarian, Paul taught English for five years at University of St. Thomas and an additional five years at UNC Chapel Hill. His research background and interests are in literary studies, ethnic studies, cultural studies, performance studies, media studies, education, and social sciences. Hi! My name is Bella and I am a second year student here at Augsburg studying graphic design. I am currently trying to find personal care assistants to help me in my day to day life here on campus. This would include getting me ready for the day, helping me get set up for class and assisting me around campus. I am currently looking for people who would want to work some hours during this Summer! If you are a pre-med or nursing student, this is a great opportunity to get experience with patient care. Applications are Now Open for the 2022-23 PRISM Scholars Program

The PRISM program is designed to support Augsburg juniors and seniors who wish to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Funded by the National Science Foundation, PRISM Scholars receive scholarships of up to $10,000 per student per year. Scholars also become a part of the STEM community at Augsburg with opportunities for summer research, faculty mentoring, and career development.

Eligibility:
– Enrolled at least half-time in a STEM major (biology, biopsychology, biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, or physics)
– Within 5 semesters of graduating with a STEM degree as of Fall 2022 (graduating by December ‘24)
– Major GPA of 2.75 or higher (scholars will be expected to raise their GPA to 3.0 during program participation)
– U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident
– Demonstrated financial need as determined by financial aid status (Pell or MN State grant eligible or equivalent)

Application deadline: Wednesday, May 18 at 11:59pm
Faculty reference deadline: Friday, May 27 (applicants should get permission from one faculty member to serve as their reference and name them in their application)

Students who began their college careers at community colleges are encouraged to apply as well as students who began at Augsburg.

During the June 9, 2020, town hall for faculty and staff, President Pribbenow announced seven new equity initiatives born out of response to the murder of George Floyd and Augsburg’s renewed commitment to accelerate and expand upon our university’s efforts to promote equity and inclusion during a national moment of racial and social justice reawakening. One of these initiatives was the requirement of Augsburg faculty and staff to complete an annual anti-racism training.

As we near the end of another year please don’t forget to take care of your campus mailbox. This includes checking it for any mail, returning your lock and filing out the survey for what you would like us to do with your mail after this semester.

Two weeks after the spring semester ends (May 16, 2022) we will be closing all student campus boxes. Then before the fall semester starts we will reassign them (possible new numbers) to all students living on campus. Commuter students can then request to have a campus box if they would like one.

If you would like your mail forwarded or would like to keep your mailbox open for the summer, please either fill out this survey (https://forms.gle/872EQGhwK1tCWiPB6) or send us an email (mailship@augsburg.edu) with any relevant information. There is also an option to be reassigned your current campus box number for the next semester if you will be returning in the fall.

We are only able to forward 1st Class USPS mail and packages. Other packages (UPS, FedEx, Amazon, etc.), magazines, non-profit mail and standard mail will not be forwarded. We can also only forward to USA addresses. The forwarding period for the Augsburg Mailroom is two months from when the request is submitted. Afterward any additional mail we receive will be returned to sender.

We request that you contact the people/business sending you mail and update your address with them. Enrolling in online/electronic bills or statements can also be a smart option. However, all members of the Augsburg community are welcome! This year’s “3 Days” will take place Tuesday, May 10th – Thursday May 12th from 9am – 4pm in the Hagfors Center.

Breakfast, mid-morning, and afternoon snacks will be provided, but lunch is on your own. Greetings! It is that time of year again!

We are currently accepting applications for the Minnesota Technology Foundation Scholarship. The scholarships are for Minnesota undergraduate students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. These awards range from $2,500 to $5,000 awards and can include internship opportunities at MN Tech member companies. The Minnesota Technology Foundation supports diversity in this application and award process.

We also have Named Scholarships in specific areas supported by our generous sponsors. In the past, we have provided scholarships in Computer Science, STEM Education, Data Science, Women in STEM, Underrepresented Populations in STEM and Women in Computer Science. We encourage you to let students know of this additional and exceptional opportunity.

Eligibility requirements:

Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in a STEM field or in STEM teaching
Only students with sophomore through senior academic status in the current school year may apply. Sophomore status may include students who have achieved this status through advanced placement (AP) credit or post-secondary options (PSEO)s
Applicants must be enrolled at an accredited, Minnesota-based higher education institution.

The PRISM program is designed to support Augsburg juniors and seniors who wish to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Funded by the National Science Foundation, PRISM Scholars receive scholarships of up to $10,000 per student per year. Scholars also become a part of the STEM community at Augsburg with opportunities for summer research, faculty mentoring, and career development.

Eligibility:
– Enrolled at least half-time in a STEM major (biology, biopsychology, biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, or physics)
– Within 5 semesters of graduating with a STEM degree as of Fall 2022 (graduating by December ‘24)
– Major GPA of 2.75 or higher (scholars will be expected to raise their GPA to 3.0 during program participation)
– U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident
– Demonstrated financial need as determined by financial aid status (Pell or MN State grant eligible or equivalent)

Application deadline: Wednesday, May 18 at 11:59pm
Faculty reference deadline: Friday, May 27 (applicants should get permission from one faculty member to serve as their reference and name them in their application)

MNUDL Volunteer Opportunity: Seeking Finance Professionals to Judge Financial Literacy Debates

You’re Invited! Judge Debates & Network with Students on May 21st!

The MN Urban Debate League is looking for financial professionals that identify as female or gender non-conforming to judge at our annual Financial Literacy Debate tournament this year!

You do not need debate experience to be a judge. We will provide training and opportunities to ask questions prior to the tournament, and will also be available to support you during the tournament.

Financial Literacy Debate is an innovative program that supports students’ public speaking, critical thinking, and financial literacy skills and knowledge. Our program works to close the gender gap in the financial sector by building the leadership and financial knowledge of high school participants that identify as female or gender non-conforming, through debate. Over the course of the initiative, students meet with their coach after school, learn about the topic area and fundamental economic concepts through an engaging curriculum, hold practice debates, and participate in a competition with other schools.

Our tournament this year is tentatively scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 21 from 9:30 am – 2:30 pm at Augsburg University. The tournament schedule will be as follows:

· 9:30 am: Judge training

· 10:00 am: Judge three debate rounds about the benefits/harms of cryptocurrency

· 1:00: Lunch and networking between students and financial professionals

· 2:00: Awards Ceremony

· 2:30: End

Would you like to be a part of creating a collaborative gift for our incoming first year students?

Stop by our “Collaborative Workshop” on Wednesday, May 11th anytime between 2:00-4:30pm in Old Main 100 (Painting & Drawing Studio).

We will be creating a large painting (approximately 4-foot x 15-foot) together that will then be cut up into 500+ bookmarks for our incoming first-year students! This year at Opening Convocation, each first-year student will be provided a bookmark to keep as a welcome gift from all of us.

Purpose of May 11th Workshop: to be in community together, learn, experiment and collaborate on creating a gift for our incoming first-years.

Workshop Details:
Materials provided. No art experience required. Come and go as you please.

Purpose of Gift for Students: To create a sense of connection and belonging to our Augsburg community, to remind them that we are all here to support them.

Announcing the Winners of the Inaugural Nilsson Transcultural Nurse of the Year Award

Jenna Nelson and Valerie DeCora Guimaraes, two nurses pursuing advanced degrees at Augsburg, have received the inaugural Nilsson Transcultural Nurse of the Year Award. Transcultural nursing emphasizes care in culturally diverse settings, including outreach to people who are underserved by traditional care systems and who exist outside of the social mainstream. The award is named for professor emerita Beverly Nilsson, who chaired the Department of Nursing and championed care for people living in poverty.

Nelson has spent the majority of her career working with marginalized communities as an emergency department nurse. While working to become a family nurse practitioner, she has engaged extensively as an intern and volunteer at the Health Commons. These nurse-led drop-in sites provide hospitality and care to guests from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, many of whom are unhoused or living with mental illness. When the pandemic closed the drop-in locations, Nelson joined a team making weekly food deliveries to local encampments.

Guimaraes is the Mayo Clinic’s first Patient Experience Ambassador to work solely with Native American patients. In this role she works to dispel myths about Native American patients and educates colleagues across the Mayo enterprise about health disparities and spiritual care practices. She established a medication initiative to coordinate care with the Indian Health Service upon patient discharge from Mayo, developed a Native American family fund to address food and transportation needs, and successfully advocated to hire additional Native American Patient Navigators in MN and AZ.

The Minnesota Urban Debate League, a program of Augsburg University, is seeking debate judges for our Spanish Debate League and East African Debate programs. These programs serve middle and high school students at Minneapolis Public Schools, Saint Paul Public Schools, and select suburban partners and charter schools. Both programs are led by community members, who have taken the policy debate format, and tweaked it to support their students’ growth and engagement.

Judges will earn $55 per virtual tournament. No speech & debate experience is needed to be a judge, though it can be helpful – we will fully train you. More things to know:

* Judges listen to debates, provide constructive feedback, and pick a winner. In the process, they help students build confidence and academic skills like critical thinking, deep listening, and argumentation.

* Judges for our Spanish Debate League must be fluent in Spanish.
East African Debate League tournaments are held in English. (You do not have to be East African to judge, but the topic of the debate pertains directly to the community- what are the pros and cons of attending an integrated public school vs. a culturally-specific charter school?).

* Both types of judges must pass a background check and have a supportive, educational mindset.

Tournaments on these dates will be all virtual! Tournaments are generally held from 4:00-7:00 PM on weeknights. We plan to announce any in-person tournaments at a later date, which will be held in the Twin Cities area.

“3 Days in May” Returns to campus May 10-12

Augsburg’s “3 Days in May” is an annual Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) event focused on providing professional development opportunities (and socializing) designed for Augsburg teaching faculty and staff. However, all members of the Augsburg community are welcome! This year’s “3 Days” will take place Tuesday, May 10th – Thursday May 12th from 9am – 4pm in the Hagfors Center.

Please click on the link below to access the program & schedule for “3 Days in May”. Each day’s schedule is in blocks with 30 minute breaks between sessions and a 90 minute break for lunch. Breakfast, mid-morning, and afternoon snacks will be provided, but lunch is on your own. Please note that the 3-4pm session on Tuesday, May 10th is “open time” designed to be used by departments, committees, groups, etc. as a flexible time to meet.

Applications are Now Open for the 2022-23 PRISM Scholars Program

The PRISM program is designed to support Augsburg juniors and seniors who wish to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Funded by the National Science Foundation, PRISM Scholars receive scholarships of up to $10,000 per student per year. Scholars also become a part of the STEM community at Augsburg with opportunities for summer research, faculty mentoring, and career development.

Eligibility:
– Enrolled at least half-time in a STEM major (biology, biopsychology, biochemistry, chemistry, computer science, mathematics, or physics)
– Within 5 semesters of graduating with a STEM degree as of Fall 2022 (graduating by December ‘24)
– Major GPA of 2.75 or higher (scholars will be expected to raise their GPA to 3.0 during program participation)
– U.S. citizen, national, or permanent resident
– Demonstrated financial need as determined by financial aid status (Pell or MN State grant eligible or equivalent)

Application deadline: Wednesday, May 18 at 11:59pm
Faculty reference deadline: Friday, May 27 (applicants should get permission from one faculty member to serve as their reference and name them in their application)

Students who began their college careers at community colleges are encouraged to apply as well as students who began at Augsburg.

Announcing the Winners of the Inaugural Nilsson Transcultural Nurse of the Year Award

Jenna Nelson and Valerie DeCora Guimaraes, two nurses pursuing advanced degrees at Augsburg, have received the inaugural Nilsson Transcultural Nurse of the Year Award. Transcultural nursing emphasizes care in culturally diverse settings, including outreach to people who are underserved by traditional care systems and who exist outside of the social mainstream. The award is named for professor emerita Beverly Nilsson, who chaired the Department of Nursing and championed care for people living in poverty.

Nelson has spent the majority of her career working with marginalized communities as an emergency department nurse. While working to become a family nurse practitioner, she has engaged extensively as an intern and volunteer at the Health Commons. These nurse-led drop-in sites provide hospitality and care to guests from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds, many of whom are unhoused or living with mental illness. When the pandemic closed the drop-in locations, Nelson joined a team making weekly food deliveries to local encampments.

Guimaraes is the Mayo Clinic’s first Patient Experience Ambassador to work solely with Native American patients. In this role she works to dispel myths about Native American patients and educates colleagues across the Mayo enterprise about health disparities and spiritual care practices. She established a medication initiative to coordinate care with the Indian Health Service upon patient discharge from Mayo, developed a Native American family fund to address food and transportation needs, and successfully advocated to hire additional Native American Patient Navigators in MN and AZ.

The Minnesota Urban Debate League, a program of Augsburg University, is seeking debate judges for our Spanish Debate League and East African Debate programs. These programs serve middle and high school students at Minneapolis Public Schools, Saint Paul Public Schools, and select suburban partners and charter schools. MnTech Foundation Scholarship Applications – Now Open

Greetings! It is that time of year again!

We are currently accepting applications for the Minnesota Technology Foundation Scholarship. The scholarships are for Minnesota undergraduate students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) disciplines. These awards range from $2,500 to $5,000 awards and can include internship opportunities at MN Tech member companies. The Minnesota Technology Foundation supports diversity in this application and award process.

We also have Named Scholarships in specific areas supported by our generous sponsors. In the past, we have provided scholarships in Computer Science, STEM Education, Data Science, Women in STEM, Underrepresented Populations in STEM and Women in Computer Science. We encourage you to let students know of this additional and exceptional opportunity.

Eligibility requirements:

Must be pursuing an undergraduate degree in a STEM field or in STEM teaching
Only students with sophomore through senior academic status in the current school year may apply. Sophomore status may include students who have achieved this status through advanced placement (AP) credit or post-secondary options (PSEO)s
Applicants must be enrolled at an accredited, Minnesota-based higher education institution.
Scholarships will be awarded in the fall term of 2022 and presented to recipients at Minnesota Technology Association Tekne Awards in November. Students must be enrolled at time of award.

Special Circumstances

In addition to traditional STEM fields, health science majors whose studies will NOT lead to participation in direct patient care are welcome to apply.
The scholarship is open to international students, but preference is given to students who intend to work in Minnesota after graduation.
Past scholarship winners are eligible to re-apply as long as they meet the rest of the requirements listed here.
