Please join us in Hoversten Chapel at 11:30 am for a service of morning prayer. During this service we will also install our campus ministry musician Brian De Young. Brian De Young (he/him) joins Augsburg University after many years in church music ministry in congregations in Iowa, Michigan, and Minnesota. In addition to his role in Campus Ministry, he currently serves as the Director of Music at Olivet Congregational Church in St. Paul. With a bachelor’s degree in organ performance and graduate education in both church music and piano performance, Brian is a musician of broad skills and wide-ranging interests. Outside of Augsburg he may be seen performing classical chamber music, singing Renaissance and Baroque choral music, playing in a theatre pit orchestra, or on keys at a Twin Cities Tango Collective event. He lives in South Minneapolis with his partner Alena, daughters Nina and Elisabeth, and rescue mutt Copper.

The Louis Stokes North Star STEM Alliance (LS-NSSA) Kickoff is an annual event for undergraduate students in the sciences to share their research projects, explore career and internship opportunities, and network with other STEM students, faculty and professionals. This year, ten Augsburg LS-NSSA Scholars that conducted research this past summer will be presenting their research posters. Everyone in the Augsburg community is welcome (and encouraged!) to attend.

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is an initiative funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF Grant #1712619) which is intended to double the number of African-American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Alaska Native, and Pacific Islander students receiving baccalaureate degrees in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in a five-year period. In Minnesota, the LSAMP program is called the Louis Stokes North Star STEM Alliance (LS-NSSA). LS-NSSA is a partnership of 16 higher education institutions and 3 community partners in Minnesota.
Registration for the poster fair is still open, so if you have a research poster and would like to participate, please fill out this brief form: https://forms.gle/xHerxdGpZDr1FGgs7. Note: students must meet LS-NSSA eligibility requirements in order to present.

We’re excited to announce a new on campus meeting for anyone in recovery (of any form), curious about recovery, or have loved ones who struggle with any form of addiction. It is hosted by StepUp students, but is in no way limited to only StepUp students or people with specifically substance abuse issues. This isn’t tied to AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) or NA (Narcotics Anonymous), it’s our own format and is completely fluid. We’re open to suggestions of any ways to better the meeting. Our focus is on providing a place to constructively process issues and work on spiritual development, whatever that may look like. It will be every Monday 7-8 in OGC 103, if you have any questions feel free to email me at bassetta@augsburg.edu or stop in to the StepUp office, OGC 204. Please join us, we’d love to have you!

Northern Ireland is CGEE’s newest “Study Center” Study Abroad program, which are programs rooted community-based experiential learning focusing on issues of Peace, Justice and Social Change. These programs offer a variety of courses which satisfy general education and language requirements and many more. Many organizations do their recruiting for summer 2023 internships and entry-level positions (for spring graduates) in September and October. It might seem early but it’s a typical recruiting schedule for many organizations. In fact, employers like 3M, US Bank, Ameriprise Financial, and Travelers have application deadline dates in late September.

The Louis Stokes North Star STEM Alliance (LS-NSSA) Kickoff is an annual event for undergraduate students in the sciences to share their research projects, explore career and internship opportunities, and network with other STEM students, faculty and professionals. This year, ten Augsburg LS-NSSA Scholars that conducted research this past summer will be presenting their research posters. Everyone in the Augsburg community is welcome (and encouraged!) to attend.

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is an initiative funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF Grant #1712619) which is intended to double the number of African-American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, Native American, Alaska Native, and Pacific Islander students receiving baccalaureate degrees in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) in a five-year period. In Minnesota, the LSAMP program is called the Louis Stokes North Star STEM Alliance (LS-NSSA). LS-NSSA is a partnership of 16 higher education institutions and 3 community partners in Minnesota.

We’re excited to announce a new on campus meeting for anyone in recovery (of any form), curious about recovery, or have loved ones who struggle with any form of addiction. Its hosted by StepUp students, but is in no way limited to only StepUp students or people with specifically substance abuse issues. This isn’t tied to AA (Alcoholics Anonymous) or NA (Narcotics Anonymous), its our own format and is completely fluid, we’re open to suggestions of any ways to better the meeting. Our focus is on providing a place to constructively process issues and work on spiritual development, whatever that may look like. Hmong Women Together is happy to announce our annual book club event where we will be reading “Thoughts From Prison: A Hmong Boy’s journey from the Mountains of Laos to the American Urban Jungle” by Chance Chang Vang.

Friends of Roberts Bird Sanctuary is partnering with the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board to add an observation deck to the Roberts visitor shelter. We are raising funds this summer with the goal to complete construction after fall migration.
This observation deck will help make Roberts Bird Sanctuary more accessible to people of all abilities.

A celebration of the life of Emily Suhrhoff Onken will take place at 2 p.m. this Sunday, August 14, at Bradshaw Funeral Home at 3131 Minnehaha Ave S., Minneapolis, with visitation one hour beforehand. The service will also be livestreamed.

About this event
Are you a former speech and debate competitor? Or perhaps you always wished you had the chance? Come hear about the MN Urban Debate League, a program of Augsburg University that provides academic competitive debate programming for over 1,000 students in the Twin Cities metro area and how you can get involved. There are lots of ways to be part of our community, even if you don’t have the time to coach or judge at tournaments!
Enjoy a drink and snacks at Sociable Cider Werks (on us!), and learn how you can get involved. This is our second event to get our Advocates for Debate Board initiative off the ground. This time, our focus is on celebrating the Minnesota speech and debate community while creating greater local connections.
Join us and connect with leaders and passionate community members from various fields like legal, business, education, non-profit, and public service. We all have the same goal; to empower and educate students through the transformative process of debate.
This venue is friendly to people of all ages (with adult supervision) and to well-trained dogs!

As the academic year is coming to a start, ASAC would like to give an overview of what’s to come and what we have planned for the (beginning) the year.
