Augsburg’s annual Zyzzogeton Research Symposium showcases the work of over 80 undergraduate researchers in all academic disciplines and will take place on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. Students who have conducted research over the course of the last year and would like to present a poster should register at the URGO website (www.augsburg.edu/urgo) by March 1 (a mentor-approved abstract is required to register). Students planning to present at Zyzzogeton are encouraged to attend the Postermaking Workshop on Tuesday, February 15, 6:30 – 8:00pm. Please RSVP when you register.

Apply For URGO Student Conference Travel Funding

URGO has a limited amount of funds this year to support students presenting their research at conferences.

URGO offers up to $850 in travel funding for Augsburg undergraduates who have been accepted to present research at a professional conference. These funds can mitigate the high costs of travel such as airfare and lodging, and can contribute to students’ professionalization.

The application is available at the URGO website (www.augsburg.edu/urgo) at the “conference travel” page. Grants are awarded on a rolling basis, so students are encouraged to work with their research mentor to submit a travel application as soon as possible after receiving acceptance to a conference. The URGO Advisory Committee meets bi-monthly to make decisions on applications.

Transcultural Music Therapy Study Abroad in July – Apply Now

Apply to be in one of Augsburg’s three Public Leadership Scholar Programs: Christensen Scholars, Interfaith Scholars, or Sabo Scholars.
In these programs, you will have the opportunity to participate in a yearlong academic seminar with a cohort of your peers. You will contribute to public leadership on campus and in the wider community in faith-based non-profits, through interfaith engagement, or civic life. You will also be able to earn 4 upper division semester credits in the Religion or Political Science and receive at least a $2,000 scholarship.
Who is Eligible?
Christensen and Interfaith Scholars – Current sophomores and juniors who plan to study on campus all of the 2022-23 academic year.
Sabo Scholars – Current students (any level) who plan to study on campus all of the 2022-23 academic year.

We have multiple summer opportunities available for students.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM
The URGO Summer Research Program is an 11-week, on-campus program (May 12th – July 27th) where students are funded to conduct research with a faculty mentor. Students receive support throughout the research process from their faculty mentor, a Speaker Series, and weekly seminars with fellow researchers. URGO provides full-time summer researchers (400 hours) with a $6,000 stipend and housing discount while half-time researchers (200 hours) receive a $3,000 stipend and a housing discount.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS
URGO also provides funding for students to work for a professor as a research assistant on an ongoing research project. This is a 100-hour commitment over the course of the summer and comes with a $1,500 stipend. This is an excellent opportunity to try out research for the first time or focus on a specific aspect of a research project.

Phase 1 of the applications are due February 16th at 11:59 PM, so start talking with your faculty members to learn about what research is going on in your department!

Free COVID-19 Testing on Campus Starts TODAY

Starting today (Wednesday, February 16), students, faculty, and staff can take advantage of free COVID-19 testing on campus as part of a new program through the state of Minnesota. Tests will be provided on a walk-in basis in Gundale Chapel. 

You will need to provide your name, Augsburg ID number, and Augsburg email address upon arrival. Results from the BinaxNOW rapid antigen tests will be ready in approximately 15 minutes and delivered via the NAVICA mobile app. Results can also be displayed in the app to show proof of recent testing. Augsburg Announces the American Indian Recognition Full Tuition Program

Starting this fall, Augsburg will launch the American Indian Recognition Full Tuition Program to support and promote the importance of American Indian students on campus. The program defines “American Indian” as an enrolled member of any federally recognized American Indian tribe, Alaskan Native Village, or Canadian First Nation, or a direct descendent (child or grandchild) of an enrolled or tribally verified member. A student does not need to be a Minnesota resident or establish residence on trust land to participate.

All program applicants must fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) annually. For eligible students with family incomes under $125,000, the program will cover all remaining tuition and fees after state and federal financial aid (such as a Pell Grant) have been applied. The program will cover 100% of tuition and fees above the estimated family contribution determined by the FAFSA for eligible students with family incomes above $125,000.

As of fall 2022, the program will be open to currently enrolled or newly admitted first year students, transfer students, and participants in any of Augsburg’s undergraduate adult degree completion programs. It is renewable for up to eight full-time fall and spring terms for traditional undergraduate students, or until degree requirements are completed for adult degree completion students. To be eligible, students must demonstrate a commitment, grounded in lived experience, to recognizing the importance and diversity of American Indians in higher education.

The deadline to apply is May 1 for fall enrollment and December 1 for spring enrollment.

Calling All Artists – The 2022 Solving for X Artist Showcase

Calling all artists! This year, The Forum on Workplace Inclusion is providing a platform for artists of all mediums to showcase creative expressions at the 34th annual conference around the theme Solving For X: Tackling Inequities in a World of Unknowns.

Submissions can be made in the form of print, video, or audio recording not to exceed seven minutes in duration. The deadline to submit your work is Friday March 11, 2022.

Submissions will be reviewed by committee and selected submissions notified by March 21, 2022. Artists selected will have the opportunity to attend the entirety of this year’s annual conference and be invited to share and talk about their work in a virtual showcase event Tuesday, April 5, 2022.

Free COVID-19 Testing on Campus Starts Wednesday

Starting Wednesday, February 16, students, faculty, and staff can take advantage of free COVID-19 testing on campus as part of a new program through the state of Minnesota. Tests will be provided on a walk-in basis in Gundale Chapel.

Results from the BinaxNOW rapid antigen tests will be ready in approximately 15 minutes and can be displayed via the NAVICA mobile app to show proof of recent testing. Summer Course: Writing for Television – Apply Now

Do you love watching television and have ever wondered how the creators wrote their pilot for that hit TV show you love to watch? Or, are you a writer in a different medium and have always wanted to try your hand at writing for television?

Grow your writing skills this summer with the course PWC 320 “Writing for Television”. This intensive course will be modeled on a professional writer’s room and as such all students will be required to actively participate. Students will be expected to participate in the development and breaking of story while learning to pitch ideas, create outlines, and reading and providing feedback on your colleagues’ work. Each of these steps will be instrumental in aiding you with creating your own pilot!

Augsburg’s annual Zyzzogeton Research Symposium showcases the work of over 80 undergraduate researchers in all academic disciplines and will take place on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. Students who have conducted research over the course of the last year and would like to present a poster should register at the URGO website (www.augsburg.edu/urgo) by March 1 (a mentor-approved abstract is required to register). Apply For URGO Student Conference Travel Funding

URGO has a limited amount of funds this year to support students presenting their research at conferences.

URGO offers up to $850 in travel funding for Augsburg undergraduates who have been accepted to present research at a professional conference. These funds can mitigate the high costs of travel such as airfare and lodging, and can contribute to students’ professionalization.

The application is available at the URGO website (www.augsburg.edu/urgo) at the “conference travel” page. Grants are awarded on a rolling basis, so students are encouraged to work with their research mentor to submit a travel application as soon as possible after receiving acceptance to a conference. The URGO Advisory Committee meets bi-monthly to make decisions on applications.

We have multiple summer opportunities available for students.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM
The URGO Summer Research Program is an 11-week, on-campus program (May 12th – July 27th) where students are funded to conduct research with a faculty mentor. Students receive support throughout the research process from their faculty mentor, a Speaker Series, and weekly seminars with fellow researchers. URGO provides full-time summer researchers (400 hours) with a $6,000 stipend and housing discount while half-time researchers (200 hours) receive a $3,000 stipend and a housing discount.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS
URGO also provides funding for students to work for a professor as a research assistant on an ongoing research project. This is a 100-hour commitment over the course of the summer and comes with a $1,500 stipend. This is an excellent opportunity to try out research for the first time or focus on a specific aspect of a research project.

Metropolitan Council has a number of summer internships listed in Handshake and on their webpage at https://metrocouncil.org/Employment/Internships.aspx.

Their internship program offers a wide variety of opportunities to qualifying interns. All majors welcome. The program is designed to educate and mentor interns by providing professional on-the-job training and development. Participants of our internship program receive an hourly salary! Most interns work full-time during the summer, and some opportunities continue part-time through the school year.

Eligibility
Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program (associate’s or bachelor’s or master’s) or be a recent graduate (within 12 months from posting date) from a degree program (associate’s or bachelor’s or master’s).

Must be a citizen or national of the United States; a lawful, permanent resident; or have authorization to work in the United States. (Documentation to verify employment eligibility will be required at the time of employment.)

In light of the tragic police killing of Amir Locke last week, the Center for Wellness and Counseling wants to highlight some resources on our website. We know that our students and community members are deeply affected by the ongoing racial injustices in our city and the violence done to black and brown bodies. We also know that many in our community actively participate in social justice work, and that this important work can both replenish and at times, deplete our energy. We have multiple summer opportunities available for students.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM
The URGO Summer Research Program is an 11-week, on-campus program (May 12th – July 27th) where students are funded to conduct research with a faculty mentor. Students receive support throughout the research process from their faculty mentor, a Speaker Series, and weekly seminars with fellow researchers. URGO provides full-time summer researchers (400 hours) with a $6,000 stipend and housing discount while half-time researchers (200 hours) receive a $3,000 stipend and a housing discount.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS
URGO also provides funding for students to work for a professor as a research assistant on an ongoing research project. This is a 100-hour commitment over the course of the summer and comes with a $1,500 stipend. This is an excellent opportunity to try out research for the first time or focus on a specific aspect of a research project.

Phase 1 of the applications are due February 16th at 11:59 PM, so start talking with your faculty members to learn about what research is going on in your department!

Auggies, if you live on campus you were assigned a campus box. (You can search yourself in the Augsburg directory if you are unsure of the box number.) Please make sure to check your campus box on a regular basis. Currently there are a lot of tax documents being delivered. Even if you are not expecting mail you may want to check your box just to be safe.

Please also keep an eye on your email. There are a number of students who no longer have a campus box, but still have mail sent to their Augsburg address. In these cases, we send an email to your Augsburg.edu account with the subject line Will Call Mail. We will hold the first class mail for two weeks to give you time to come pick it up or contact mailship@augsburg.edu to see about other options. If we do not hear from you, your mail will be sent back to the original sender.

Apply to be in one of Augsburg’s three Public Leadership Scholar Programs: Christensen Scholars, Interfaith Scholars, or Sabo Scholars.
In these programs, you will have the opportunity to participate in a yearlong academic seminar with a cohort of your peers. You will contribute to public leadership on campus and in the wider community in faith-based non-profits, through interfaith engagement, or civic life. You will also be able to earn 4 upper division semester credits in the Religion or Political Science and receive at least a $2,000 scholarship.
Who is Eligible?
Christensen and Interfaith Scholars – Current sophomores and juniors who plan to study on campus all of the 2022-23 academic year.

Students – don’t forget about TutorMe! It is available to Augsburg students 24/7 and offers tutoring in over 300 subjects from qualified tutors. Students are able to use 3 hours a week; 3 one hour sessions or 6 thirty-minute sessions. You can access TutorMe through any of your Moodle classes. At the top left of your screen there is an orange tab to see the side panel of resources. As you scroll down, you will see the “Augsburg Tools” section and underneath is the link to TutorMe. LearningWorks Tabling Today – Summer Job

1) Monday, February 7th – LearningWorks is a chapter within Breakthrough Collaborative which comprises 25 sites across the country. Its overall mission is to launch high potential middle school students on the path to college, while also inspiring talented high school and college students to pursue careers in education. At LearningWorks, we achieve this mission by using a “students-teaching-students” model. During our 9 weeks of summer programming, 35 talented high school and college students work as teachers, advisors, and mentors for 120 middle school students from Minneapolis Public Schools. LearningWorks teachers are creative, diverse, intelligent, and highly motivated. They represent many academic and personal backgrounds, but share a commitment to students and educational equity. LearningWorks is a Breakthrough site in the heart of downtown Minneapolis.

KN95 and N95 Masks Available

KN95 and N95 masks are still available for faculty who are teaching in-person this term, and for staff in student-facing positions. Please go to any of the following locations this week:

OGC 115 (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday)
HC 125 (Monday-Thursday)
MEM 118 (Tuesday-Thursday)

At the end of this week all masks will be brought to the Circulation Desk in Lindell Library, where any faculty/staff/students can pick up 3 masks when they provide an Augsburg ID, until supplies are depleted.

Present Your Research at Zyzzogeton – Register by March 1

Augsburg’s annual Zyzzogeton Research Symposium showcases the work of over 80 undergraduate researchers in all academic disciplines and will take place on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. Students who have conducted research over the course of the last year and would like to present a poster should register at the URGO website (www.augsburg.edu/urgo) by March 1 (a mentor-approved abstract is required to register). Students planning to present at Zyzzogeton are encouraged to attend the Postermaking Workshop on Tuesday, February 15, 6:30 – 8:00pm. Please RSVP when you register.

URGO Summer Research – Phase 1 Applications Due February 16

Are you looking for a paid summer research or creative activity opportunity here on campus? URGO applications for 2022 summer research are now available on the URGO website at http://www.augsburg.edu/urgo/research/on-campus-research/ All fields of study welcome!

We have multiple summer opportunities available for students.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM
The URGO Summer Research Program is an 11-week, on-campus program (May 12th – July 27th) where students are funded to conduct research with a faculty mentor. Students receive support throughout the research process from their faculty mentor, a Speaker Series, and weekly seminars with fellow researchers. URGO provides full-time summer researchers (400 hours) with a $6,000 stipend and housing discount while half-time researchers (200 hours) receive a $3,000 stipend and a housing discount.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS
URGO also provides funding for students to work for a professor as a research assistant on an ongoing research project. This is a 100-hour commitment over the course of the summer and comes with a $1,500 stipend. This is an excellent opportunity to try out research for the first time or focus on a specific aspect of a research project.

Phase 1 of the applications are due February 16th at 11:59 PM, so start talking with your faculty members to learn about what research is going on in your department!

Apply For URGO Student Conference Travel Funding

URGO has a limited amount of funds this year to support students presenting their research at conferences.

URGO offers up to $850 in travel funding for Augsburg undergraduates who have been accepted to present research at a professional conference. These funds can mitigate the high costs of travel such as airfare and lodging, and can contribute to students’ professionalization.

The application is available at the URGO website (www.augsburg.edu/urgo) at the “conference travel” page. Grants are awarded on a rolling basis, so students are encouraged to work with their research mentor to submit a travel application as soon as possible after receiving acceptance to a conference. The URGO Advisory Committee meets bi-monthly to make decisions on applications.
