Over the last two months, the Sabo Center has hosted our inaugural Community Changemakers collaborators, the East Phillips Neighborhood Institute, for six talks and three workshops. We’re now inviting proposals from our campus community, including students, staff, and faculty, for collaborative projects with EPNI in the spring semester. Sabo Center staff will lead this work and provide support.
These projects work to build relationships with EPNI staff to share their knowledge and experience, and to provide experiential and community engaged learning experiences for our campus communities. Proposals may be organized around an event, course development, lesson plan, campus project or whatever else you might imagine.
Some examples for potential projects might include:
→ connecting a student group or class to work with Forest Hunt to revitalize the Indigenous Student Plot in the Community Garden
→ bringing Sean Lim to your class or student organization to collaboratively plan and complete an art project (banner, screen prints, stickers, buttons) around an issue or event
→ invite Kieran Morris to class to talk about the uses and importance of community gardens and urban farms for building and sustaining communities
→ work with EPNI and Sabo Staff to develop a new course or lesson plan
Applications will be accepted until Friday, January 2nd. Please submit your proposal using the short Google Form linked below or email Jenean Gilmer to discuss your ideas. Reach out with any questions or concerns to gilmerje@augsburg.edu.

Small businesses in our neighborhood are hurting right now as many residents are afraid to leave their homes. These businesses need the support of the Augsburg community. Walk over the I-94 pedestrian bridge and enjoy coffee and pastries at Rebecca’s Bakery on Franklin Avenue. Cross Riverside Avenue and do some holiday shopping at Sisterhood Boutique for gently used clothing and accessories. Over the last two months, the Sabo Center has hosted our inaugural Community Changemakers collaborators, the East Phillips Neighborhood Institute, for six talks and three workshops with EPNI staff. We’re now inviting proposals from our campus community, including students, staff, and faculty, for projects to be completed in collaboration with EPNI in the spring semester.
These projects work to build relationships with EPNI staff and community members and bring their knowledge and experience to campus while providing experiential and community engaged learning experiences for our campus communities.
Applications will be accepted until Friday, December 12th. Applicants will receive responses on Friday, December 19th. → invite Kieran Morris to class to talk about the uses and importance of community gardens and urban farms for building and sustaining communities

Any package ordered to be delivered to the Augsburg campus should use this address:
Person’s Full Name
720 22nd Ave South
Minneapolis, MN 55454
This gives the delivery person the best chance of delivering to the Shipping/Receiving room.
Most flex/third party delivery drivers are using a map program to know where to deliver to. Using the other campus addresses are causing packages to be left in different areas around campus and often outside the buildings that are locked.

Augsburg athletics legend Stanford ‘Stan’ Nelson ’43 passed away on November 20, 2025, at the incredible age of 105.
After growing up in Dawson, MN, Stan immersed himself in the Augsburg community, earning 12 varsity letters in football, basketball, baseball, and golf. Augsburg connections ran deep in the Nelson family—Stan’s brother, Edor Nelson ’38, would become the Auggies’ longtime football and baseball coach. Stan was inducted into the Augsburg Athletic Hall of Fame in 1977 and received the 2024 Legend of Augsburg Athletics Award.
After the 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, Stan enlisted in the U.S. Navy as an officer (Lieutenant Junior Grade) during World War II, serving in the Normandy invasion and the Pacific theater. Following the war, he earned his master’s degree. He had an extensive career as a football coach at Anoka High School, leading the team to seven conference championships and the 1964 Minnesota state championship. He was named the MHSCA Coach of the Year in 1964 and was named to several Halls of Fame for his coaching accomplishments. He will be remembered as an Auggie whose dedication, leadership, and service made an enduring impact on his community.
There will be a visitation on Tuesday, December 2, from 9–11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Anoka, with a service to follow at 11 a.m.
