Free Trip to Holocaust Museum – Due February 21

The MINNE Holocaust Fellows program selects college students to participate in a fully-paid, one-day trip to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. to acquire a more in-depth knowledge of the Holocaust. Fellows tour the permanent exhibits and featured exhibits, as well as meet with a museum representative. Awards come through the MINNE Fund of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation, who has chosen Augsburg to be one of the select universities to participate in the program.

The 2022 trip will take place on April 5, 2022. Applications are due on February 21, 2022 and can be found at https://jewishminneapolis.org/minne/. If you would like to learn more about the program or would like advising on the application, please contact the URGO office at urgo@augsburg.edu.

Eligibility:
• U.S. Citizen
• Full-time student
• Sophomore or junior planning to graduate no earlier than Spring 2023

MINNE Holocaust Fellows

WHO: Open to any teaching faculty or staff at Augsburg

(note: adjuncts can apply on the CTL website to receive a stipend for participation)

WHAT: A 90-minute workshop (led by Drs. Tara Mader (HPE) and Jennifer Bankers-Fulbright (BIO), the 2022-2023 coordinators of the ICD grants and workshops) that will (1) introduce you to the key components of integrated course design* (ICD), (2) work with you to plan an immediate, practical improvement you can make to a course, and (3) give you “preferred status” if you apply for a 2022-2023 ICD grant (open to full-time faculty, only).

This workshop is also designated as an equity and/or inclusion-based event that counts toward your Good or Advanced standing in the Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program!

Impress Employers at the Minnesota Private Colleges’ Job and Internship Fair with a Polished Resume

The in-person 2022 Minnesota Private Colleges’ Job & Internship Fair is coming up on Thursday, February 24th! Prior to the fair, be sure to have your resume reviewed by a Strommen Career Peer Advisor. Having your resume reviewed by our trained Peer Advisors this week will allow you to get feedback and make any changes early. Thus, ensuring that your document will make the best impression on potential employers and recruiters on Thursday, February 24th!

Undergraduate resume and cover letter drop-in hours are Mondays 10:00 AM-4:00 PM, Tuesdays 9:00-11:30 AM, Wednesdays 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM, Thursdays 9:00-11:30 AM, & Fridays 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM. We’re located in Christensen Center, Suite 100. (Across from Einstein’s.)

Music Therapy Students – Study Abroad this Summer

Explore meanings and expressions of music, health, illness, and healing transculturally in the context of South Africa. The focus of this course is on developing an understanding of individuals, families, groups and communities with diverse cultural backgrounds and the use of music in community and for healing within their culture.

MUSIC THERAPY IN SOUTH AFRICA

Travel July 10-20, 2022

Led by Professor Dr. Annie Heiderscheit

Course options:

• MUS 374 or 474: Music Therapy Practicum (1 credit),
• MUS 511: Advanced Music Therapy Clinical Practicum (0 credit), or
• MUS 582: Transcultural Music Therapy (4 credits), or
• MUS 511 and MUS 582 (total 4 credits)
• also fulfills Augsburg Experience requirement!
This program is designed for Music Therapy majors, but students in music, psychology, or other related fields are also welcome.

Students – don’t forget about TutorMe! It is available to Augsburg students 24/7 and offers tutoring in over 300 subjects from qualified tutors. Students are able to use 3 hours a week; 3 one hour sessions or 6 thirty-minute sessions. You can access TutorMe through any of your Moodle classes. At the top left of your screen there is an orange tab to see the side panel of resources. As you scroll down, you will see the “Augsburg Tools” section and underneath is the link to TutorMe. Apply For URGO Student Conference Travel Funding

URGO has a limited amount of funds this year to support students presenting their research at conferences.

URGO offers up to $850 in travel funding for Augsburg undergraduates who have been accepted to present research at a professional conference. These funds can mitigate the high costs of travel such as airfare and lodging, and can contribute to students’ professionalization.

The application is available at the URGO website (www.augsburg.edu/urgo) at the “conference travel” page. Grants are awarded on a rolling basis, so students are encouraged to work with their research mentor to submit a travel application as soon as possible after receiving acceptance to a conference. The URGO Advisory Committee meets bi-monthly to make decisions on applications.

Present Your Research at Zyzzogeton – Register by March 1

Augsburg’s annual Zyzzogeton Research Symposium showcases the work of over 80 undergraduate researchers in all academic disciplines and will take place on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. Students who have conducted research over the course of the last year and would like to present a poster should register at the URGO website (www.augsburg.edu/urgo) by March 1 (a mentor-approved abstract is required to register). Students planning to present at Zyzzogeton are encouraged to attend the Postermaking Workshop on Tuesday, February 15, 6:30 – 8:00pm. Please RSVP when you register.

URGO Summer Research – Phase 1 Applications Due February 16

Are you looking for a paid summer research or creative activity opportunity here on campus? URGO applications for 2022 summer research are now available on the URGO website at http://www.augsburg.edu/urgo/research/on-campus-research/ All fields of study welcome!

We have multiple summer opportunities available for students.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM
The URGO Summer Research Program is an 11-week, on-campus program (May 12th – July 27th) where students are funded to conduct research with a faculty mentor. Students receive support throughout the research process from their faculty mentor, a Speaker Series, and weekly seminars with fellow researchers. URGO provides full-time summer researchers (400 hours) with a $6,000 stipend and housing discount while half-time researchers (200 hours) receive a $3,000 stipend and a housing discount.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS
URGO also provides funding for students to work for a professor as a research assistant on an ongoing research project. This is a 100-hour commitment over the course of the summer and comes with a $1,500 stipend. This is an excellent opportunity to try out research for the first time or focus on a specific aspect of a research project.

Phase 1 of the applications are due February 16th at 11:59 PM, so start talking with your faculty members to learn about what research is going on in your department!

Do You Know Where Your Mail Is?

Auggies, if you live on campus you were assigned a campus box. (You can search yourself in the Augsburg directory if you are unsure of the box number.) Please make sure to check your campus box on a regular basis. Currently there are a lot of tax documents being delivered. Even if you are not expecting mail you may want to check your box just to be safe.

Please also keep an eye on your email. There are a number of students who no longer have a campus box, but still have mail sent to their Augsburg address. In these cases, we send an email to your Augsburg.edu account with the subject line Will Call Mail. We will hold the first class mail for two weeks to give you time to come pick it up or contact mailship@augsburg.edu to see about other options. If we do not hear from you, your mail will be sent back to the original sender.

Summer Job Camp Fair Today at 10:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Are you looking for a summer job working with youth? Looking to gain leadership skills? Spend your summer working in another town or state.

Attend the Evangelical Lutheran summer job camp fair on today from 10:30am-12:30pm in the lobby of the Christensen Center. The fair is free and open to all students. Camp representatives from surrounding states are looking to hire students to work over the summer with youth. Jobs vary from camp counselors, activity instructors, kitchen help, etc. Housing and food is included, as well as, as a stipend. If interested, many representatives will interview you at the fair. (dress attire – casual to business)

A few reasons why you should work at a camp:
Camp will build teamwork skills like no other
You learn how to be a role model
The kids will inspire you as much as you inspire them, if not more.
It’s a fun yet challenging summer gig

Alternative Spring Break Trip to Albuquerque, New Mexico – Register by February 10

Augsburg Campus Ministries invites you to participate in its alternative spring break to Albuquerque, New Mexico, one of the oldest cities in the United States. Albuquerque has a unique multicultural history and heritage with Native American and Hispanic and Latino cultural influences. The city is located in north central New Mexico near the Sandia Mountains.
While in Albuquerque, we will be partnering with Service Learning Camps, and our days will be structured with community service projects, time for reflection, learning opportunities, and visiting local attractions.
Trip Details
Dates of Trip: March 12-19, 2022
Destination: Albuquerque, New Mexico
Transportation: Bus
Total Cost: $275, includes most lodging, transportation, and most meals. Please register by February 10, 2022 (see below). Please let us know if the cost presents a barrier to participation for you.

Annual Required Augsburg University Anti-Racism Training

During the June 9, 2020, town hall for faculty and staff, President Pribbenow announced seven new equity initiatives born out of response to the murder of George Floyd and Augsburg’s renewed commitment to accelerate and expand upon our university’s efforts to promote equity and inclusion during a national moment of racial and social justice reawakening. One of these initiatives was the requirement of Augsburg faculty and staff to complete an annual anti-racism training.

Please note that there are two remaining opportunities for faculty and staff to attend this training and fulfill this requirement. The spring training opportunity will take place on Thu, Feb 17 at 3:30-7:00 p.m. via Zoom and the make-up May training opportunity will take place on Thu, May 12 at 2:30-6:00 p.m. via Zoom.

These trainings will feature education-based case studies on poverty and socioeconomic status and will take place on Wed, Mar 9 @ 3-4:30 p.m. and Tue, Apr 5 @ 3-4:30 p.m.

Attend the Zyzzogeton Postermaking Workshop on Feb. 15

All students that are planning to present a poster at this year’s Zyzzogeton Student Research Symposium are encouraged to attend the Postermaking Workshop on Tuesday, February 15, 6:30 – 8:00pm in Sverdrup 201.

This workshop will cover the basics of creating a professional research poster as well as allow time for students to begin working on their poster with the assistance of URGO and McNair staff.
