The Writing Center is open!
The Augsburg Writing Center offers both online and in-person tutoring. Skilled students will work with you one-on-one at whatever stage of writing you are in – the idea-development stage, the drafting stage, and the revision stage – and can show you how to choose an appropriate essay topic, how to develop a thesis statement and paragraphs, how to revise your essay, or assist with any other writing needs you may have. Tutors will be alert listeners and ask questions, and will not judge or evaluate the work in progress. For more information, please visit our website. We look forward to seeing you!

Hello,
A warm welcome to our new and returning Augsburg community members. The GenEd(it) Group is working to finalize a set of proposed revisions to our general education curriculum (the set of requirements all undergraduate students share) this fall.
An overview of planned next steps are:
September: GenEd(it) Group creates draft version(s) of proposed revisions
October: Invite response to draft version(s) from faculty, staff and students
November: GenEd(it) Group finalizes proposed revisions
December: Shared governance begins
Since the start of this initiative in spring 2023, the GenEd(it) Group:
-Examined the rationale for general education revision
-Conducted a comparison of requirements across institutions
-Surveyed the Augsburg community about learning goals
-Convened a well-attended faculty workshop in May
We will be inviting feedback on the draft version(s) of proposed revisions to our general education curriculum next month. Specific details are forthcoming.

Augsburg’s TRIO McNair Scholars Program is recruiting students for Fall 2023 admission. Eligible applicants will be at Junior status by the end of Spring 2024 and available to conduct full-time research Summer 2024. Students from all majors are welcome to apply, though preference is given to applicants that are interested in pursuing a doctoral (Ph.D.) degree. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all participant slots are filled.
The TRIO McNair Scholars Program works with students who are members of groups underrepresented in graduate education and who exhibit strong academic potential. The goal of the program is to prepare Scholars for graduate study through coursework, academic advising, workshops, and involvement in undergraduate research and other scholarly activities. The program also assists with securing admission to and financial assistance for enrollment in graduate programs. Students will acquire the research skills necessary to succeed in graduate school through a paid research internship ($6000) with an Augsburg faculty member during Summer of 2024.
The McNair Scholars Program is federally-funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Therefore, to be eligible, applicants must be first-generation (neither parent graduated from a four-year college or university) AND low-income AND/OR may be persons from groups underrepresented in graduate education. The Department of Education defines these groups as African-American, American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Hispanic/Latino. Additionally, applicants must be either U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents and maintain at least a 2.8 cumulative GPA (3.0+ preferred). Unsure if you qualify? The Interfaith Institute is thrilled to welcome nationally-recognized interfaith advocate, humanist community builder and researcher, and Augsburg alum Chris Stedman ‘08 to the institute as our inaugural Research Fellow. Chris will focus his research on the religiously unaffiliated and religious indifference.

CLASS and Lindell Library invite you to a book discussion for “Disability Visibility: First-Person Stories from the 21st Century” edited by Alice Wong. “This anthology gives a glimpse into the rich complexity of the disabled experience, highlighting the passions, talents, and everyday lives of this community.”
We’ll discuss narratives from Part 2: “Becoming” on Thursday, October 5, 2023, 4:00-5:00 pm in Lindell Library, Room 301. We welcome you (students, faculty, and staff) to this discussion regardless of how much of the book you read! Snacks will be provided.
