Get Help with Your Midterm Essays – Come to the Writing Center

The Writing Center is open!

The Augsburg Writing Center offers both online and in-person tutoring. Skilled students will work with you one-on-one at whatever stage of writing you are in – the idea-development stage, the drafting stage, and the revision stage – and can show you how to choose an appropriate essay topic, how to develop a thesis statement and paragraphs, how to revise your essay, or assist with any other writing needs you may have. Tutors will be alert listeners and ask questions, and will not judge or evaluate the work in progress. For more information, please visit our website. We look forward to seeing you!

Boren Scholarship for Language Study Abroad

The Boren Scholarship is an initiative by the US Federal Government to increase the study of languages critical to U.S. interests by individuals committed to public service careers. The Boren Scholarship can be used to cover a variety of study abroad experiences where language learning is the focus. URGO and Study Abroad provide joint advising on this program and can assist any applicant in selecting a program and writing/editing application essays.

Scholarship amounts:
Up to $25,000 for 25-52 weeks (preferred)
Up to $12,500 for 12-24 weeks
Up to $8,000 for 8-11 weeks (STEM majors only)

$30,000 Graduate School Scholarship for Public Service

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship Foundation provides merit-based scholarships to college students in their junior year who plan to pursue careers in public service. Truman Scholars receive up to $30,000 for graduate or professional school, participate in leadership development activities, and have special opportunities for internships and employment with the federal government.

Eligibility:
• Full-time junior-level student
• US citizen
• Extensive record of community and public service
• Planning a career in public service
• Outstanding leadership potential
• Strong academic record
• Nominated by Augsburg University to apply
• Must meet with Truman Campus Representative, Dixie Shafer (shafer@augsburg.edu), by Tuesday, November 21st

Public service is defined as employment in government at any level, uniformed services, public-interest organizations, non-governmental research and/or educational organizations, public and private schools, and public service-oriented nonprofit organizations such as those whose primary purposes are to help needy or disadvantaged persons or to protect the environment.

My name is Dean Harris, and I am a doctoral student in the Clinical Psychology Department at Augsburg University. I am conducting this study as partial fulfillment of my doctoral degree, with Dr. Patricia Hopkins-Smith as my advisor.

You are being invited to participate in a research study on investigating influences of intrapersonal factors on the relationship between casual sex and mental health. Applications Are Now Open for the PRISM Scholars Program

The PRISM program is designed to support Augsburg juniors and seniors who wish to pursue a career in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Funded by the National Science Foundation, PRISM Scholars receive scholarships of up to $5,000 per semester. Scholars also become a part of the STEM community at Augsburg with opportunities for summer research, faculty mentoring, and career development.

Eligibility:
– Enrolled at least half-time in a STEM major (biology, biopsychology, biochemistry, chemistry, data science, computer science, mathematics, or physics)
– Within 5 semesters of graduating with a STEM degree as of Spring 2024 (graduating by May ‘26)
– Major GPA of 2.75 or higher
– U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or admitted refugee
– Demonstrated financial need as determined by financial aid status (Pell or MN State grant eligible or equivalent)

Application deadline: Tuesday, November 28th at 11:59pm
Faculty reference deadline: Wednesday, December 6th (applicants should get permission from one faculty member to serve as their reference and name them in their application).

Students who began their college careers at community colleges are encouraged to apply as well as students who began at Augsburg.

Lot J – Reserved for Admissions Guests Only

Lot J – Future Auggie Parking – is reserved for guests of Admissions only. We have ran into multiple instances where the lot is full (and not due to our visit schedule) and our guests/prospective students can not find parking that is reserved for them, starting their visit to campus off on the wrong foot. We ask the campus community to kindly respect the reserved lot, and only park there if you have an Admissions approved permit for the 2023-2024 school year. We thank you for your commitment in helping us provide great experiences for prospective students visiting our campus!

Election Day Is November 7: Where Do I Vote?

Election Day is Tuesday, November 7. There are no classes at Augsburg on Election Day and it’s a holiday for faculty and staff in order to make it easier for our community to vote, volunteer, and take part in the democratic process. 

Need to know where to vote? 

— IF YOU LIVE ON CAMPUS, your polling place is the Christensen Center East Commons. If you want to register to vote on Election Day, you will need proof of residence. This can be your student ID. You can also bring a copy of your housing contract plus another form of photo ID. The greenhouse is open to the Augsburg campus community on the first Thursday of every month during the semester, from noon to 3pm. The Augsburg community is invited to come see what we’ve got growing on, enjoy the tropical atmosphere and marvel at hundreds of plant species from all over the world.

Inside Biden’s Cuba Policy – Film Screening TODAY

Augsburg CGEE invites everyone to join award-winning Cuban journalist and filmmaker, Liz Oliva Fernández, for a screening and Q&A of two new Belly of the Beast documentaries!

Gracie Award-winning Cuban journalist Liz Oliva Fernández will visit Augsburg University to present a new documentary film, Cuba in the Crosswinds [working title], produced by the independent media outlet, Belly of the Beast. Filmed this year in New Jersey and Washington D.C., Cuba in the Crosswinds exposes the economic and political interests driving U.S. policy toward Cuba under the Biden administration, which has mainly kept intact Trump’s “maximum pressure” sanctions on Cuba, fueling an unprecedented wave of migration from the island.

The show runs for approximately 2 hours with an intermission.

Professor Shae Pemberton is a humble, secretive inventor who leads a quiet life focused on science. However, as her loyal assistant Matilda reminds her, fixing broken toys, clocks, and household gadgets is what she must do to pay the bills. When her friend Lawrence visits her with a business proposal from two shady fellows, buried secrets from her past resurface. As political unrest sweeps over the great city of New Providence, unexpected (and weird!) events start to unravel and threaten to destroy everything Pemberton holds dear, perhaps even the Crown itself! The Clockwork Professor is an action-packed adventure of fantastical science fiction with a steampunk twist.

Content Disclosure: The Clockwork Professor is a comedy intended for young adult and adult audiences. This play includes the use of some strong language and contains suggested nudity. There are also simulated fights, physical restraint, and a bit of romantic display of affection. Ah! And there will be some occasional theatrical smoke, too!
