Last Chance to Volunteer – Sign Up to Judge Financial Literacy Leadership Debates

submitted by froehlic@augsburg.edu

The Minnesota Urban Debate League, a program of Augsburg University, provides academic competitive debate for middle and high school students in the Twin Cities. We tailor the debate model to meet the needs of a variety of students. One of our special programs, which is tailored specifically for girls and gender expansive youth, is Financial Literacy Leadership Debates.

Financial Literacy Leadership Debate is an innovative after-school program that supports students’ public speaking and critical thinking skills while also building financial literacy knowledge. Our program works to close the gender gap in the financial sector by building the leadership and financial knowledge of high school participants through debate. Over the course of the initiative, students meet with their coaches after school, learn about the topic area and fundamental economic concepts through an engaging curriculum, hold practice debates, and prepare for in-person tournaments.

We’re seeking women and gender expansive individuals who study or work in finance related fields to serve as debate judges. No experience is needed- we’ll train you! By being a judge, you’ll have a chance to connect with students and share about your own experiences in this field.

We have one tournament left this season on May 29th (held at Augsburg University). Tournaments are held from 3:15-7:15 PM.

Please let our Volunteer Coordinator Johan know if you have any transportation needs! Reach out to him at: fullard1@augsburg.edu.
