Summary of Position
The Director of Campus Life is responsible for the design and implementation of innovative social, educational, cultural, and developmental programs and services that foster individual and community development and create an atmosphere where students can connect, engage, and invest in the Augsburg community; enhance the incoming first-year and transfer day program student experience outside of the classroom through quality transitional programs as well as through leadership education; and supervise the full-time assistant director, student veteran representative, student paraprofessionals, student workers, and when applicable, graduate student interns.
Primary Responsibilities
– Manage the Campus Life department.
– Develop strategic priorities for the Campus Life department that are congruent with strategic goals of Academic and Student Affairs and the University.
– Develop and manage programming that impacts the transition, leadership, and well-being of students.
– Provide direction and supervise Campus Life assistant director, student veteran representative, student paraprofessionals, student workers, and when applicable, graduate student interns.
– Advise the Augsburg Day Student Government.
– Develop, manage, and teach holistic student leadership programming, including but not limited to the Emerging Leaders Program and Student Leadership Development courses.
– Encourage students and student organizations to explore self-directed activities that provide opportunities for self-realization and personal growth for themselves and their peers.
– Enhance and support diversity, equity, and inclusion awareness and development in student programming.
– Ensure that students and student organizations understand institutional policies and procedures and how these relate to their programming, events, and activities.
– Design, implement, and manage the daily operations of day undergraduate program orientation programs, including but not limited to collaborating with other offices and departments, coordinating on campus-wide publications sent to students (e.g., brochures, flyers, emails, schedule booklets, etc.), and updating program information in public forums (e.g., website, social media forums, etc.).
– Oversee military and veteran support, including management of the student veterans lounge and veterans-specific programming.
– Develop and manage budgets for Campus Activities, Orientation, Student Activity Fee, Green Fee, and others as applicable.
– Coordinate delivery of services and support to commuter students.
– Evaluate and assess all departmental programs to determine their effectiveness as they relate to student learning outcomes, as well as general student satisfaction.
Additional Responsibilities
– Serve as general advisor to student organizations.
– Plan and implement student and organizational leadership recognition celebrations.
– Support Act Six Scholars in student leadership and mentoring.
– Support Augsburg Student Activities Council in program implementation.
– All other duties as apparent or assigned by supervisor(s).
Work Environment and Physical Demands
– Typical work environment is an office. Sedentary work for long periods of time.
– Regular phone and computer use.
– Working long or irregular hours; night and weekend duties as needed.
– Working in an intense work environment, specifically during competing time demands at various points in the year; ex: opening, summer orientation, homecoming, etc.
– Frequent to infrequent standing for extended periods of time during various student activities/events and orientation programs.
– Working in temperature extremes, specifically summer heat during orientation and outdoor activities/events.
– Frequent to infrequent driving/travel for conferences, retreats, and shopping for program materials.
– Infrequent lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs. Related to program setup, etc.
– Working in noise level extremes related to music programs/events.
– Working near occasional odors related to paint, markers, etc. for programming.
– Occasional noise level extremes related to music programs.
