Parking Enforcement Suspended Until August 28

submitted by erchula@augsburg.edu

Parking permit enforcement in all Augsburg surface parking lots has been suspended from August 14 through August 27, 2024. Suspending parking permit enforcement is being done in order to accommodate students and their families as they move back into campus housing, and to provide time for new students, staff and faculty to purchase an Augsburg permit or find other arrangements for their vehicles and transportation needs prior to enforcement starting back up on August 28.

If you need assistance purchasing an Augsburg permit, please visit the Department of Public Safety website (link below) to view instructions on how to purchase a permit. If you still have questions after reviewing the website, please email parking@augsburg.edu with any questions.

Parking permit enforcement will start up at midnight on August 28. All non-permitted vehicles will need to be removed from the Augsburg lots by 11:59 PM on August 27 to avoid receiving a ticket.

Important: Changes to Minneapolis Street Parking on Campus

submitted by farrisr@augsburg.edu

The City of Minneapolis recently adopted a number of changes that will affect street parking on campus, starting as soon as today. IMPORTANT: PLEASE DOUBLE-CHECK STREET PARKING SIGNAGE AROUND CAMPUS TO ENSURE THAT YOU ARE FOLLOWING THE UPDATED REGULATIONS.

Changes are illustrated in the map linked below and include:

– New metered parking on the east side of 22nd Ave between Riverside Ave and Butler Pl, around the perimeter of Murphy Square, along both sides of Butler Pl, and on both sides of 23rd Ave between Butler Pl and Riverside Ave. The cost to park in these spaces will be $0.50/hr, with a four-hour limit between 8 a.m.–6 p.m. daily. Free after 6 p.m.

– Permit parking only (Minneapolis critical parking area permit required) between 8 a.m.–6 p.m. on the west side of 22nd Ave between Riverside and Butler Pl. The City’s plan also includes implementing these same restrictions on both sides of 21st Ave north of 7th St, and on the south side of 6th St between 20th Ave and 21st Ave. No permit required after 6 p.m on those streets. Parking also will be restricted on the north side of 6th St between 20th Ave and 21st Ave, but allows for 4-hour parking with no permit between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. AGAIN, PLEASE READ STREET PARKING SIGNAGE TO ENSURE THAT YOU ARE FOLLOWING THE NEW REGULATIONS.

– While you may notice new parking meter infrastructure on the north side of 7 ½ St, these meters are not currently active. For the time being, this area can still be used as an unloading zone in accordance with city parking regulations.

Augsburg will continue to work with the city to understand the impact of these changes and advocate for an appropriate mix of parking options for our campus. As a result, there may be additional changes later in the year. Any public feedback on the parking changes may be directed to Minneapolis by calling 311 or emailing Minneapolis311@minneapolismn.gov.

TODAY – Come to Failure to Launch: FAFSA Edition

submitted by lenze@augsburg.edu

The FAFSA Simplification Act implemented for the 2024-2025 school year was anything but simple. Errors, delays, and changes are still impacting students’ financial aid eligibility today! Because of all of the complications, many students are not completing the FAFSA, which gives them federal and state funding to be able to go to school. This workshop is designed to be a conversation about how we as a whole got to this point in time, what Augsburg has done about it, how it will continue to impact our students going forward, and how our campus partners can help!

submitted by truesmit@augsburg.edu

The Interfaith Institute, Religion and Philosophy Department, and Center for Teaching and Learning received a grant from the Interfaith America and John Templeton Foundations to implement a year-long faculty cohort focused on a campus wide effort on teaching religious diversity and pluralism. We invite full-time Augsburg University faculty to apply for the fellowship program. Limited fellowships are available and fellows will receive a stipend of $500.00. The goals of the yearlong fellowship are to develop new material for courses, new approaches to teaching, and to learn from other faculty members in the cohort. We will be leading workshops on religious pluralism, teaching religious diversity, and understanding how to engage worldview diversity in the classroom and beyond. If you’re not familiar with teaching religious and worldview diversity, this cohort is a wonderful opportunity to learn more and build your skills and familiarity with these topics. We will work with you to integrate content and skills in your context and academic discipline.

Sessions will include presentations on topics and the opportunity to workshop ideas with other cohort members. Some brief pre-reading will be required.

The cohort will meet via Zoom:

New Copy Request System

submitted by longj@augsburg.edu

The new copy request system (IOnS) is currently live. Please submit all copy request through the new system and not by email. We need all cost center orders to go through the system for billing. If your user ID was uploaded it should have your default cost center number already in the drop-down menu. If you need more than the one cost center number, change areas or are new you will need email copyctr@augsburg.edu with your User ID and what cost center numbers you are authorized to us. I will add them to your User ID. For student worker or student organizations the email must come from your supervisor or advisors.

With the new copy request system, we have the option for a couple different forms. We have an Augsburg user guide in the process and a link will be added to the Copy Center page when complete. There is a general IOnS user guide linked at the bottom of the sign on page currently.

Print is for simple print jobs and has limited finishing option (only staple or stamping).

Print Advanced has more advance finishing options such as cutting, hole punch or laminate.

Copy Jobs are for items without a file to upload. If you are bringing in a hard copy for us to scan.

Booklet will be for Comb binding, coil binding or saddle stich books.

General Order is for reams of paper, envelopes and Augsburg general letterhead.

Service is to report a printer that need paper, toner or other trouble shooting.

The new system will allow you to store files so you will not need to upload each time you need to reprint the same item. Your cost centers will be in a pull-down menu so you don’t need to look it up each time. The option to pay at the Copy Center is also part of the drop down menu for any personal printing. (Fund numbers and project codes will still need to be entered by hand as too few departments use them.)

Please email copyctr@augsburg.edu if you have questions or stop by with your laptop and file if you would like a quick training session.

Save the Date – Imagine Cedarfest, September 8 at 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

submitted by gilmerje@augsburg.edu

Imagine Cedarfest is a big, family-friendly block party for neighborhood connection and community organization. This event is a fantastic way to experience artists, musicians, and local businesses from the neighborhood and imagine a better future together.

When the Minnesota Highway Commission (now the Minnesota Department of Transportation or MnDOT) routed and constructed I-94 through the urban core of the Twin Cities in the ’60s, it destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses and displaced thousands. Now, as MnDOT evaluates options for the highway’s future, we have the opportunity to influence one of the biggest policy decisions in decades.

BONUS! Got a Weinie Dog?! Start training now and register for the Weinie Dog Race!!!
This is the second annual Wienery Wiener and Wiener-Wannabe Dog Race. This will take place on Sunday September 8th in front of the Wienery during the Imagine Cedarfest event.

We will see how many registrants we get. If we have enough “pure” dachsunds, we will run a separate race just for wiener dogs. Otherwise, we will group dogs by size to try to keep things fair. We may also choose to run multiple heats.

Register for the race here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScvJUYs5TQ8SSH0wWs62wwxmS5FeJYjI4ASS6GHyQKTA_d1UA/viewform

Join your friendly community-engaged learning colleague, Jenean Gilmer, for a short presentation and walk/roll around the neighborhood. We’ll spend about twenty minutes on a presentation/lecture and walk for one hour, about one mile total. If it’s hot or rainy, bring an umbrella (for shade creation and water protection), and make sure to wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Meet in Oren Gateway 100 at 1:30, we’ll leave from there at 2:00 pm.

Welcome New Students at Opening Convocation 8/27/2024

submitted by gubrud@augsburg.edu

Opening Convocation – the official kick-off event for the 2024-25 academic year – is scheduled for Tuesday, August 27 at 10:50am in Si Melby. Members of faculty and staff are invited to form a clapping tunnel to welcome students. If you plan to be in the clapping tunnel, you may wear regalia or Auggie gear. Line up is scheduled for 10:20am along 71/2 th Street between Murphy Square and Anderson Music Hall. Also, a gentle reminder to seasoned Augsburg faculty and staff, consider inviting those who are new or newer to our community to join you in attending. If you are new faculty or staff or have never attended this before, it can be intimidating to know where and how to attend.
