Parking Enforcement in Surface Lots Suspended Until August 28

submitted by erchula@augsburg.edu

Parking permit enforcement in all Augsburg surface parking lots has been suspended from August 14 through August 27, 2024. Suspending parking permit enforcement is being done in order to accommodate students and their families as they move back into campus housing, and to provide time for new students, staff and faculty to purchase an Augsburg permit or find other arrangements for their vehicles and transportation needs prior to enforcement starting back up on August 28.

If you need assistance purchasing an Augsburg permit, please visit the Department of Public Safety website (link below) to view instructions on how to purchase a permit. If you still have questions after reviewing the website, please email parking@augsburg.edu with any questions.

Parking permit enforcement will start up at midnight on August 28. All non-permitted vehicles will need to be removed from the Augsburg lots by 11:59 PM on August 27 to avoid receiving a ticket.

Full-Time Faculty: Apply for an Advancing Religious Pluralism Fellowship

submitted by truesmit@augsburg.edu

The Interfaith Institute, Religion and Philosophy Department, and Center for Teaching and Learning received a grant from the Interfaith America and John Templeton Foundations to implement a year-long faculty cohort focused on a campus wide effort on teaching religious diversity and pluralism. We invite full-time Augsburg University faculty to apply for the fellowship program. Limited fellowships are available and fellows will receive a stipend of $500.00. Faculty from any department are encouraged to apply.

The goals of the yearlong fellowship are to develop new material for courses, new approaches to teaching, and to learn from other faculty members in the cohort. We will be leading workshops on religious pluralism, teaching religious diversity, and understanding how to engage worldview diversity in the classroom and beyond. If you’re not familiar with teaching religious and worldview diversity, this cohort is a wonderful opportunity to learn more and build your skills and familiarity with these topics. We will work with you to integrate content and skills in your context and academic discipline.

Sessions will include presentations on topics and the opportunity to workshop ideas with other cohort members. Some brief pre-reading will be required.

The cohort will meet via Zoom:
Thursday Oct. 10th 3:30-5:30
Thursday Nov. 7th 3:30-5:30
Thursday Feb. 6th 3:30-5:30
Thursday Feb. 20th 3:30-5:30
Thursday March 27th 3:30-5:30

Welcome New Students at Opening Convocation Tomorrow

submitted by gubrud@augsburg.edu

Opening Convocation – the official kick-off event for the 2024-25 academic year – is scheduled for Tuesday, August 27 at 10:50am in Si Melby. Members of faculty and staff are invited to form a clapping tunnel to welcome students. If you plan to be in the clapping tunnel, you may wear regalia or Auggie gear. Line up is scheduled for 10:20am along 71/2 th Street between Murphy Square and Anderson Music Hall. Also, a gentle reminder to seasoned Augsburg faculty and staff, consider inviting those who are new or newer to our community to join you in attending. If you are new faculty or staff or have never attended this before, it can be intimidating to know where and how to attend.

Save the Date: Imagine Cedarfest, September 8 (11 a.m.–5 p.m.)

submitted by gilmerje@augsburg.edu

Imagine Cedarfest is a big, family-friendly block party for neighborhood connection and community organization. This event is a fantastic way to experience artists, musicians, and local businesses from the neighborhood and imagine a better future together.

When the Minnesota Highway Commission (now the Minnesota Department of Transportation or MnDOT) routed and constructed I-94 through the urban core of the Twin Cities in the ’60s, it destroyed hundreds of homes and businesses and displaced thousands. Now, as MnDOT evaluates options for the highway’s future, we have the opportunity to influence one of the biggest policy decisions in decades.

BONUS! Got a Weinie Dog?! Start training now and register for the Weinie Dog Race!!!
This is the second annual Wienery Wiener and Wiener-Wannabe Dog Race. This will take place on Sunday September 8th in front of the Wienery during the Imagine Cedarfest event.

We will see how many registrants we get. If we have enough “pure” dachsunds, we will run a separate race just for wiener dogs. Otherwise, we will group dogs by size to try to keep things fair. We may also choose to run multiple heats.

Register for the race here.

TODAY: Cedar-Riverside Hang, 1:30–3 p.m.

submitted by gilmerje@augsburg.edu

Wanna learn more about Cedar-Riverside and Augsburg’s role in the neighborhood? Interested in the best spots for coffee, lunch, drinks, music, theater…and MORE?! Join your friendly community-engaged learning colleague, Jenean Gilmer, for a short presentation and walk/roll around the neighborhood. We’ll spend about twenty minutes on a presentation/lecture and walk for one hour, about one mile total. If it’s hot or rainy, bring an umbrella (for shade creation and water protection), and make sure to wear comfortable shoes and weather-appropriate clothing. Meet in Oren Gateway 100 at 1:30, we’ll leave from there at 2:00 pm.

Please email gilmerje@augsburg.edu with any questions.
