Parking Enforcement in Surface Lots Suspended Until August 28

submitted by erchula@augsburg.edu

Parking permit enforcement in all Augsburg surface parking lots has been suspended from August 14 through August 27, 2024. Suspending parking permit enforcement is being done in order to accommodate students and their families as they move back into campus housing, and to provide time for new students, staff and faculty to purchase an Augsburg permit or find other arrangements for their vehicles and transportation needs prior to enforcement starting back up on August 28.

If you need assistance purchasing an Augsburg permit, please visit the Department of Public Safety website (link below) to view instructions on how to purchase a permit. If you still have questions after reviewing the website, please email parking@augsburg.edu with any questions.

Parking permit enforcement will start up at midnight on August 28. All non-permitted vehicles will need to be removed from the Augsburg lots by 11:59 PM on August 27 to avoid receiving a ticket.

Important: Changes to Minneapolis Street Parking on Campus

submitted by farrisr@augsburg.edu

The City of Minneapolis recently adopted a number of changes that will affect street parking on campus, starting as soon as this week. IMPORTANT: PLEASE DOUBLE-CHECK STREET PARKING SIGNAGE AROUND CAMPUS TO ENSURE THAT YOU ARE FOLLOWING THE UPDATED REGULATIONS.

Changes are illustrated in the map linked below and include:

– New metered parking on the east side of 22nd Ave between Riverside Ave and Butler Pl, around the perimeter of Murphy Square, along both sides of Butler Pl, and on both sides of 23rd Ave between Butler Pl and Riverside Ave. The cost to park in these spaces will be $0.50/hr, with a four-hour limit between 8 a.m.–6 p.m. daily. Free after 6 p.m.

– Permit parking only (Minneapolis critical parking area permit required) between 8 a.m.–6 p.m. on the west side of 22nd Ave between Riverside and Butler Pl. The City’s plan also includes implementing these same restrictions on both sides of 21st Ave north of 7th St, and on the south side of 6th St between 20th Ave and 21st Ave. No permit required after 6 p.m on those streets. Parking also will be restricted on the north side of 6th St between 20th Ave and 21st Ave, but allows for 4-hour parking with no permit between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. AGAIN, PLEASE READ STREET PARKING SIGNAGE TO ENSURE THAT YOU ARE FOLLOWING THE NEW REGULATIONS.

– While you may notice new parking meter infrastructure on the north side of 7 ½ St, these meters are not currently active. For the time being, this area can still be used as an unloading zone in accordance with city parking regulations.

Augsburg will continue to work with the city to understand the impact of these changes and advocate for an appropriate mix of parking options for our campus. As a result, there may be additional changes later in the year. Any public feedback on the parking changes may be directed to Minneapolis by calling 311 or emailing Minneapolis311@minneapolismn.gov.

Full-Time Faculty: Apply for an Advancing Religious Pluralism Fellowship

submitted by truesmit@augsburg.edu

The Interfaith Institute, Religion and Philosophy Department, and Center for Teaching and Learning received a grant from the Interfaith America and John Templeton Foundations to implement a year-long faculty cohort focused on a campus wide effort on teaching religious diversity and pluralism. We invite full-time Augsburg University faculty to apply for the fellowship program. Limited fellowships are available and fellows will receive a stipend of $500.00. Faculty from any department are encouraged to apply.

The goals of the yearlong fellowship are to develop new material for courses, new approaches to teaching, and to learn from other faculty members in the cohort. We will be leading workshops on religious pluralism, teaching religious diversity, and understanding how to engage worldview diversity in the classroom and beyond. If you’re not familiar with teaching religious and worldview diversity, this cohort is a wonderful opportunity to learn more and build your skills and familiarity with these topics. We will work with you to integrate content and skills in your context and academic discipline.

Sessions will include presentations on topics and the opportunity to workshop ideas with other cohort members. Some brief pre-reading will be required.

The cohort will meet via Zoom:
Thursday Oct. 10th 3:30-5:30
Thursday Nov. 7th 3:30-5:30
Thursday Feb. 6th 3:30-5:30
Thursday Feb. 20th 3:30-5:30
Thursday March 27th 3:30-5:30
