Full-Time Faculty: Apply for an Advancing Religious Pluralism Fellowship

The Interfaith Institute, Religion and Philosophy Department, and Center for Teaching and Learning received a grant from the Interfaith America and John Templeton Foundations to implement a year-long faculty cohort focused on a campus wide effort on teaching religious diversity and pluralism. We invite full-time Augsburg University faculty to apply for the fellowship program. Limited fellowships are available and fellows will receive a stipend of $500.00. Faculty from any department are encouraged to apply.

The goals of the yearlong fellowship are to develop new material for courses, new approaches to teaching, and to learn from other faculty members in the cohort. We will be leading workshops on religious pluralism, teaching religious diversity, and understanding how to engage worldview diversity in the classroom and beyond. If you’re not familiar with teaching religious and worldview diversity, this cohort is a wonderful opportunity to learn more and build your skills and familiarity with these topics. We will work with you to integrate content and skills in your context and academic discipline.

Sessions will include presentations on topics and the opportunity to workshop ideas with other cohort members. Some brief pre-reading will be required.

Interested in Research and Graduate School? Apply to the TRIO McNair Scholars Program

Augsburg’s TRIO McNair Scholars Program is recruiting students for Fall 2024 admission. Eligible applicants will be at Junior status by the end of Spring 2025 and available to conduct full-time research Summer 2025. Students from all majors are welcome to apply, though preference is given to applicants that are interested in pursuing a doctoral (Ph.D.) degree. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis until all participant slots are filled.

The TRIO McNair Scholars Program works with students who are members of groups underrepresented in graduate education and who exhibit strong academic potential. The goal of the program is to prepare Scholars for graduate study through coursework, academic advising, workshops, and involvement in undergraduate research and other scholarly activities. The program also assists with securing admission to and financial assistance for enrollment in graduate programs. Students will acquire the research skills necessary to succeed in graduate school through a paid research internship ($6000) with an Augsburg faculty member during Summer of 2025.

The McNair Scholars Program is federally-funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Therefore, to be eligible, applicants must be first-generation (neither parent graduated from a four-year college or university) AND low-income AND/OR may be persons from groups underrepresented in graduate education. The Department of Education defines these groups as African-American, American Indian, Alaskan Native, and Hispanic/Latino. Additionally, applicants must be either U.S. Citizens or Permanent Residents and maintain at least a 2.8 cumulative GPA (3.0+ preferred). Unsure if you qualify? Augsburg Project Leaders: Apply for a 2024 Give to the Max Fundraising Page

Calling all project leaders, coaches, and department heads, apply to host a Give to the Max 2024 fundraising page for your specific project!

Planning is underway for Give to the Max Day here at Augsburg. In order to have a fundraising page, you must fill out the Google Form below. The deadline to apply for a project is September 13.

We will be in touch with applicants with decisions about final projects the following week.

Taste of Augsburg Vendor Sign Up

Share Shop Donation and Shopping Hours

The Share Shop is officially open for the semester! We are so excited to see you on Mondays from 1:00-5:00 pm, and Tuesdays and Fridays from 12:00-4:00 pm.

We will be accepting donations during these hours, you’re free to shop around, and we are available to schedule your formal clothing and outdoor activity rentals! Come check it out in Science Hall 8B across from the grey table (follow the blue arrows on the floor). See you there!

Complete the I-94 Bike/Pedestrian Bridge Survey

In 2019 a truck hit the bike/pedestrian bridge over I-94 near the Augsburg campus, damaging it beyond repair. A temporary bridge was installed at that time. The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MNDOT) is now in the process of planning and designing a permanent bridge. MNDOT is seeking feedback to help understand the current use of the bridge and to gather ideas for potential improvements that could be incorporated into the design of the new bridge. To share your feedback, please complete the online survey and add comments to the Comment Map found on the MNDOT project page (link below).

Volunteers Needed for the Cedar Riverside Multicultural Dinner on September 19

Volunteers are needed on Thursday, September 19 to support the Cedar Riverside Multicultural Dinner. The Multicultural Dinner is an annual event, held in Currie Park adjacent to the Brian Coyle Center, from 4:00 PM – 7:30 PM. The event brings together people from all corners of the Cedar Riverside neighborhood to share a meal, celebrate the rich diversity of the neighborhood, and build community. Typically over 600 people attend. Volunteer tasks include set-up, clean-up, and serving food. Faculty/Staff Lunch and Learn: Strommen Overview and Career Design, September 11

In this session, program manager Gina Musto will introduce the Strommen Center’s new mission and vision draft and discuss the importance of design thinking across campus, particularly in career exploration.

Memorial for “The Loveliest of Trees”—4 p.m. TODAY

All are invited to a memorial for the Loveliest of Trees (the Cottonwood tree behind Hagfors that was a gathering place for our community for many years), which came down in the storm on August 27th, 2024.

We will gather at 4:00 p.m. today, August 30th, 2024 at the tree. Shortly after gathering, there will be a short offering of interfaith blessings, prayers, and thanksgiving for the tree, and an opportunity for attendees to share memories, feelings and grief, hosted by our wonderful Campus Ministry.

Participants are asked to gather on the 20th Avenue side of the tree and, for safety, to not approach trunk or branches of the tree that are suspended from the surface of the ground.

Efforts lead by Professors Matt Beckman and Leon van Eck, in collaboration with our groundskeeping team, are being made to preserve the memory of tree in a manner that honors all it did with our community. We hope to be able to announce further information about these efforts in the near future.
