Capitol Pathways Program – Paid Internships at the State Capitol – Applications Due November 15

Capitol Pathways is a paid spring internship program for BIPOC college students. With the long-term goal of making Minnesota state government and policymaking more representative of our diverse communities, our program provides students leadership, legislative and career readiness training alongside an immersive internship experience with an organization working in policy during the legislative session. This is a spring internship from January – May, 2025.

Tuesday Is Election Day—Are You Registered to Vote?

Election Day is Tuesday, November 5. Have you made a plan to vote?

If you are eligible to vote but have not already registered, you can register or update your registration when you vote, whether that is at your polling place on Election Day or at an early voting location. You will need to provide proof of residence to register at the time of voting.

Students: If you did not already register to vote, your student ID will work as proof of residence if you are voting on campus OR in the city of Minneapolis, because Augsburg provided a list of students who live on campus or in Minneapolis to the county elections office. If you live on campus, your polling place is in Christensen Center.

If you have questions about voting or need help, you can call or text the Minnesota Secretary of State call center from 8 a.m.–4 p.m..

Applying for Paid STEM Internships Through SciTech

Are you a STEM student looking for an internship? Then join us for an information session about the SciTech Internship Program sponsored by Augsburg’s Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the NSF PRISM Program.

Our guest presenter will be Ama Asantewaa, Student Outreach Manager. This workshop will explain how to effectively complete the application process for the SciTech Internship Program. The mission of SciTech is to connect college students majoring in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) to paid internships in small to mid-sized companies.

Call for Plastic Bags

Hey Augsburg University community!

As part of The Great Northern Festival this coming winter, a faculty from the Art & Design Department is creating an installation piece to raise sustainability awareness.

WE NEED YOUR HELP! We’re collecting clean plastic bags (no need to wash them, but no food residue) for this installation. If you have any plastic bags you’d like to donate, please drop them off in collection boxes: Christensen (outside of the Gallery) by November 15th or on the main floor of Old Main.

Let’s come together to support this creative initiative and make a positive impact!

National First-Generation College Celebration Week – November 4-8

November 8th was selected as the date for the annual National First-Generation College Celebration to honor the anniversary of the signing of the Higher Education Act (HEA) of 1965. The HEA was passed to ensure that everyone has access to higher education, regardless of income. In recognition of First-Generation College Celebration Day, the departments of TRIO Student Support Services, TRIO McNair Scholars, and Multicultural Life will be hosting events that highlight the first-generation college experience during the week of November 4th. These events are geared towards students but all are welcome to attend! *There will be a raffle for everyone who attends and signs in! Prizes include vintage TRIO gear and other swag!*

Join Cedar Riverside neighbors and community partners for coffee and Somali tea today (Nov. 1) at 1:30 PM in the small park at the corner of 6th Street and Cedar Ave. This informal gathering is being sponsored by Trinity Lutheran Congregation and Dar Al-Hijrah mosque as an opportunity to come together and show unity in our care for the Cedar Riverside community in advance of the election.

Enemy of the People Opening TODAY

Come see Enemy of the People! (A musical adaptation)

Performance dates are Nov 1-2 and 7-9 at 7PM, Nov 10 at 3PM
Location: Tjornhom-Nelson Theater
Students are just $5, General Public is $12, and other Augsburg Community is $10!

An Enemy of the People examines how a community responds when the local doctor threatens to expose that the town’s water source they rely on for tourism is contaminated. It raises questions of how far a community will go to protect their town’s secret so they can keep tourism dollars coming and circumvent a path to financial ruin. Scenes and songs will happen in close proximity to the audience, compelling them to feel as if they are part of the story. Immersed in the play’s dilemma, audiences will find themselves part of the climactic ending of the play when they actually vote to shape the ending of the story.

Daily Chapel: All Saints Commemoration

Please join us in Hoversten Chapel at 10:40 am for our All Saints service. The custom of commemorating all of the saints of the church on a single day goes back at least to the third century. In this service we remember loved ones who have died, especially in this past year. We will hold a special service with music from the Global Harmony Choir, music faculty Kenneth Green and Brian De Young, and student chamber musicians.

Post-Election Gathering for Faculty and Staff

Do you need a place to bring your anxiety, expectations and other feelings around the 2024 election? Would you like to debrief our nation’s elections with members of our staff and faculty community?  The Provost’s Office, Sabo Center for Democracy and Citizenship and Campus Ministry are partnering to host two Post-Election Day Gatherings for staff and faculty on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

An in-person gathering is scheduled for 9am in Hoversten Chapel and a virtual gathering is scheduled for 4pm on ZOOM. Augsburg faculty and staff are invited to attend. The purpose of these gatherings is to make space for connection and care for our staff and faculty as we move through the elections, and to offer support and resources as we care for our students and wider community.

Separate events and resources will support our students.

Auditions for the Student-Directed Play

This year’s student-directed play “Tian” starts auditions in just two weeks. Whether you are already experienced on stage, or want to dive into a new adventure – we are so excited to meet you. Play Description: Who owns history? And who is allowed to tell its stories? The student-written piece Tian centers around these fundamental questions. This conflict becomes clear when the audience is led through the life of romantic poet Karoline von Günderrode by two characters with two very different claims to Karoline’s story: Bettine von Arnim, contemporary and close friend of Karoline, who wants to paint a strong, feminist picture; and the Playwright whose goal is to create an enticing, heart wrenching play. The audience finds themselves in the in-betweens of history, whilst being part of Karoline’s personal journey filled with struggles, doubt, and dreams.
