Due February 17: Phase 1 URGO Summer Research Applications

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH/CREATIVE ACTIVITY PROGRAM: All disciplines welcome!
Phase 1 of the applications are due February 17th at 11:59 PM, so start talking with your faculty members to learn about what research or creative activity is going on in your department!

The URGO Summer Research/Creative Activity Program is an 11-week, on-campus program (May 19th – August 1st) where students are funded to conduct research with a faculty mentor. URGO provides full-time summer researchers (400 hours) with a $6,000 stipend and housing discount while half-time researchers (200 hours) receive a $3,000 stipend and a housing discount.

URGO also provides funding for students to work for a professor as a research assistant on an ongoing research project. This is a 100-hour commitment over the course of the summer and comes with a $1,500 stipend. This is an excellent opportunity to try out research for the first time or focus on a specific aspect of a research project.

URGO Summer Research Info and Application

Present Your Research at Zyzzogeton – Register by February 18

Augsburg’s annual Zyzzogeton Student Research Symposium showcases the work of over 50 undergraduate researchers in all academic disciplines and will take place on Tuesday, April 15, 3:00-4:30 PM in Hagfors Center. Students who have conducted research over the course of the last year and would like to present a poster should register using the link below by February 18.

You must have approval from your faculty mentor before registering for Zyzzogeton. If you do not have a formal abstract at this point, please provide a brief description of your research instead. You will have the opportunity to submit a final abstract/make final edits prior to the event. Abstracts will be published on the URGO website.

NOTE: If you’re planning to co-present with another student(s), only one of you needs to register. Be sure to list their names and emails and indicate that they will be co-presenters where specified on the form. All presenters will be included in event correspondence.

Important Dates:

Registration closes – February 18
Poster making workshop – February 27
Deadline to submit final poster – March 28
Deadline to submit final abstract edits – April 4

Study Spanish and Mexican Culture This Summer

Spend your summer immersed in the rich culture of Mexico!

Augsburg’s CGEE program offers an engaging and community-based summer experience with a focus on Spanish language and Mexican culture. Choose and/or combine courses from 3 1/2 week sessions.

All students earn the Global Competence Certificate (GCC) – a valuable addition to your resume – and can tailor their experience with specialized courses and internships in Spanish for Business, Spanish for Healthcare Professionals, Mexican Civilizations and Cultures, and Mexican Literature.

In addition to your coursework, you will:

Engage with a host family. And explore Mexico City and local archeological sites and museums.

Travel to Mexico City on an included program excursion

Learn from guest speakers who provide insights into history, culture, and social justice issues

Scholarship Opportunities:

Hello, my name is Ashley Wurster and I am currently a clinical psychology doctoral student at Augsburg University. I am conducting a research study about how episode patterns in schizophrenia may affect stigmatization levels among mental health practitioners and the general public in Minnesota, and I would like to include you in my research. The study will be completed exclusively online and consist of a survey about your demographics and your experiences with and attitudes on schizophrenia/severe mental illnesses. It should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. To thank you for your participation, there will be an option at the end of the survey to have a $2 bill mailed to you. Greenhouse First Friday: February 7

The Augsburg Biology Department’s rooftop greenhouse grows an appreciation for and deeper understanding of the plants of our planet. The greenhouse is open to the Augsburg campus community on the first Friday of every month this semester, from noon to 3pm. The Augsburg community is invited to come see what we’ve got growing on, enjoy the tropical atmosphere and marvel at hundreds of plant species from all over the world.

The next First Friday of the semester is this week, February 7, 12pm—3pm. The greenhouse is located on the 4th floor of the Hagfors Center.

Community Connections Conference: Saturday, February 8, 9 a.m.–4 p.m.

The Community Connections Conference is an annual free event that connects residents of Minneapolis, community groups, neighborhoods and local government.

SEEN at the Weisman Art Museum – Opening Day: February 8, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Join us for the opening day of the Weisman Art Museum’s spring exhibition, SEEN, presented in collaboration with We Are All Criminals. This exhibition highlights the work of artists inside the carceral system, in partnership with artists on the outside. Opening day will feature drop-in artist activations in the galleries, a reading library, self-guided tours, and light bites and beverages.

Weisman Art Museum presents SEEN, an exhibition created as part of a years-long collaboration with We Are All Criminals (WAAC), curated by WAAC director and founder, Emily Baxter. SEEN features currently incarcerated artists in collaboration with artists, activists, and academics in the Twin Cities community. Together they explore issues of incarceration, isolation, healing, and coming home. Representing a range of cultural, personal, and professional backgrounds and diverse forms of artistic expression, people on the “inside” partnered with people on the “outside” based on shared creative curiosities and personal affinities. This exhibition is arranged across two galleries to evoke the experiences of “inside” (carceral) and “outside” (healing and community).

The collaborative exhibition SEEN and its related public programs aim to illuminate the effects of mass incarceration by clearing the pathways for people behind bars to have their voices heard, faces seen, and humanity recognized.

Rainbow Trail Camp Summer Staff Opportunities

A representative from Rainbow Trail Lutheran Camp will be on campus today recruiting summer staff. The camp is located in the San Isabel National Forest of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in Colorado. Join a staff of about 65 amazing people and make a difference in the lives of hundreds of kids this summer. Staff has the opportunity to serve in a variety of different settings including Youth Camps, Family Camps, Day Camps, Compass Points backpacking, and Bridging Borders mission trips. Dave Jaris will table in Foss Hall outside of Hoversten Chapel beginning at 10:00 am and then will be available in the Christensen Center in the afternoon.

Join the Minnesota Private College Council for Day at the Capitol 2025, where you can advocate for increased support for low- and middle-income college students. Your legislators need to hear from you about the Minnesota State Grant program!

Time: 8:00 a.m.–1:30 p.m.

During Day at the Capitol, you’ll attend a Minnesota State Grant advocacy and lobbying training with student advocates from Augsburg and other Minnesota private colleges. Then you’ll meet with legislators and have lunch at the Capitol. The Minnesota Private College Council will host a Q&A session with public policy experts and policymakers and will provide everything you need to be a successful advocate. We will take the light rail from campus to and from the Capitol together. Plus, free lunch!

The conference presenters included professional mathematicians from Google, the National Science Foundation, SandboxAQ, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory, Bryan Health, Notre Dame, the National Security Agency, and more.
