Students are able to use 3 hours a week; 3 one hour sessions or 6 thirty-minute sessions. You can access TutorMe through any of your Moodle classes. At the top left of your screen there is an orange tab to see the side panel of resources. As you scroll down, you will see the “Augsburg Tools” section and underneath is the link to TutorMe. Need a COVID Vaccine or Booster?

Augsburg will host a vaccine clinic on Wednesday, March 30, for anyone who would like to receive a first, second, or booster dose of the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines. This event is open to all members of the Augsburg community as well as the general public ages 5 and older. The shots are free and no insurance information will be required.

Full-time Faculty: Apply for the 2022 Integrated Course Design (ICD) Grant Program

CTL’s annual ICD Grant program is offered to encourage faculty to develop their knowledge and skills in evidence-based, equitable course design. To that end, recipients of the grant will receive a $2000 stipend to participate in a 4-day workshop Monday May 23 through Thursday May 26, 2022 (9:00am – 12:30pm each day), optional coaching throughout the summer, and a wrap-up lunch in late August. To demonstrate application of the principles of the workshop, participants will also be asked to produce a final product that utilizes evidence-based, equitable course design (e.g. a syllabus).

Courses proposed for this grant may be new courses or courses undergoing substantial revision; preference will be given to courses being offered in the next academic year (2022-2023). Courses may be team-teaching collaborative efforts or individually-taught. Although open to full-time faculty at all stages in their career, preference will be given to early-career faculty.

The application form and samples of successful past applications are posted on the CTL Website under “Grants & Travel Funds; Annual Grants & Awards”. Applications are due Friday, April 8th at Noon.

Augsburg University is accepting applications for Auggie Basics Housing for summer 2022 and the 2022-23 academic year.

DEADLINE:
Monday, April 4, 2022 at 5pm

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Auggie Basics Housing is designed to address the needs of students who are experiencing housing instability. The purpose of the program is to provide a bridge for students whose housing is not stable as they seek to identify a permanent solution.

Students accepted into Auggie Basics Housing will live on campus without cost to the student. Regardless of when students enter the program, the housing commitment will cover the full academic year if needed. If the student secures permanent housing elsewhere, they will be released from the program and the spot will be offered to another student.

MEAL PLANS:
Students are not required to have a meal plan if they are selected for Auggie Basics Housing, including those placed into buildings that require one.

ELIGIBILITY FOR PROGRAM:
To be eligible for Auggie Basics Housing, students must be returning students and not receiving other housing aid from the University. Incoming first-year and transfer students are not eligible to apply.

The BIPOC Community experiences unique generational trauma from racial oppression, which can lead to specific mental health needs. There can also be barriers to accessing effective care related to culture & language, disparities, stigma, immigration status, & provider competence. The East African community in the Twin Cities is experiencing a crisis of opioid addiction touching the lives of youth, young adults, and their families in our community. Two community leaders will share their perspectives and how they have responded to the crisis.

Mimi Sahlu – Mimi Sahlu is a small business owner. She is a community leader who helps others find resources. She is an activist and voice for East African women.

Abdirahman Mukhtar – Abdirahman Mukhtar worked with the Confederation of Somali Communities in Minnesota, as a youth diversion coordinator and as the youth program manager at the Brian Coyle Center of Pillsbury United Communities, a hub for Somali immigrants. He strives to make a human connection with youth who are homeless, often alienated from their own community. He is the Founder and Executive Director of Daryeel Youth. DARYEEL (which means “care” in Somali) is a volunteer-based Street Outreach effort to support East African youth.

Augsburg University is accepting applications for Auggie Basics Housing for summer 2022 and the 2022-23 academic year.

DEADLINE:
Monday, April 4, 2022 at 5pm

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Auggie Basics Housing is designed to address the needs of students who are experiencing housing instability. The purpose of the program is to provide a bridge for students whose housing is not stable as they seek to identify a permanent solution.

Students accepted into Auggie Basics Housing will live on campus without cost to the student. Regardless of when students enter the program, the housing commitment will cover the full academic year if needed. If the student secures permanent housing elsewhere, they will be released from the program and the spot will be offered to another student.

MEAL PLANS:
Students are not required to have a meal plan if they are selected for Auggie Basics Housing, including those placed into buildings that require one.

ELIGIBILITY FOR PROGRAM:
To be eligible for Auggie Basics Housing, students must be returning students and not receiving other housing aid from the University. Incoming first-year and transfer students are not eligible to apply.

Students may apply for housing either for the summer term and/or for the academic year. Students must reapply each academic year, and may be part of the program for up to two academic years. Being chosen for Auggie Basics Housing one year does not guarantee participation in future years.

These trainings will feature education-based case studies on poverty and socioeconomic status and will take place on Wed, Mar 9 @ 3-4:30 p.m. and Wed, Apr 13 @ 3-4:30 p.m.

Kennedy Center and Christensen Center Dock Access Issues Fixed

The door hardware on the card access doors at the main entrance to the Kennedy Center and the dock entrance to Christensen Center has been replaced. Access at those entrances has returned to normal.

Lindell Library West Elevator Down
The west elevator in Lindell (near the Hagfors skyway) is not working. The repair company is waiting for a part. We do not yet know when the repair will be completed.

When using the Hagfors Center skyway, you may notice that the doors are difficult to open. We are aware of the issue and are working to get it fixed.

Augsburg annually recognizes faculty individuals or groups that have made exemplary contributions to creating an engaging academic learning environment through awards for teaching, scholarship, and service. All faculty who have been employed at the university for at least three years are eligible for the awards, and anybody at Augsburg University may nominate a candidate. Adjunct faculty are eligible for a Distinguished Contribution in Teaching award specifically to recognize exceptional adjunct faculty.

For the full Call for Nominations, descriptions of criteria for each category, and the nomination form, please follow the link to the CTL Annual Awards page and scroll to the “Distinguished Contribution Awards” section.

Nominations will be accepted until midnight on Monday, March 21st (12am March 22nd) and award recipients will be announced at the April Faculty meeting as well as posted to A-mail. Internal Job Posting: Dean of Students

As Provost Kaivola announced in a recent update, Sarah Griesse will be retiring this spring, her last day is Friday, May 13. The internal search for our next dean of students has begun and the position is now posted. We hope to name the new dean of students in mid-April so that we have a month to support a transition prior to Sarah’s retirement.

The position will be open until it’s filled, but the review of applications will begin on Wednesday, March 23. So applicants should submit their materials no later than Tuesday, March 22 for initial consideration. Elaine Eschenbacher will chair the search committee, please contact her with any questions.

Isaacson Elected VP of National Numeracy Network

Marc Isaacson, Department of Business Administration & MIS, was elected Vice President of the National Numeracy Network (NNN) at their recent national meeting. The NNN promotes education that integrates quantitative skills across all disciplines and at all levels. The Mathematics Association of America (MAA), the American Statistical Association (ASA) and the American Association of Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) are institutional members. Marc is also the primary author of the Facts on File “Guide to Data Literacy” recently published by InfoBase. High school and college students can use this book to help them analyze, evaluate and communicate their data-based findings.

Congrats to Kate Gray and Job Opening in the Strommen Center

Please congratulate Kate Gray who has accepted a new position of Career Services and Alumni Connections Manager in the Strommen Center for Meaningful Work. Kate joined Augsburg in December 2019 as a Career Specialist, and has worked systematically to increase the Strommen Center’s capacity to deliver career services programming to students. In this new role she will manage career services and will be the primary liaison for alumni, faculty, and departmental partners. She will also focus on connecting Augsburg alumni to current students for career exploration, networking, coaching and mentoring.

This new position aims to advance Augsburg’s strategic commitments to signature experiences and workforce readiness while creating foundations for stronger student outcomes and achieving new efficiencies while building new connections to other university departments, offices, and initiatives.

Beginning January 17, Human Resources assigned online training for faculty, staff and student employees on three university workplace topics: information security, the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), and discrimination & sexual harassment prevention. Those trainings are due 60 days after assigned – for faculty and staff who had held active positions on January 17th the trainings are due March 18th.

Summer course: Writing for Television – apply now

Do you love watching television and have ever wondered how the creators wrote their pilot for that hit TV show you love to watch? Or, are you a writer in a different medium and have always wanted to try your hand at writing for television?

Grow your writing skills this summer with the course PWC 320 “Writing for Television”. This intensive course will be modeled on a professional writer’s room and as such all students will be required to actively participate. Students will be expected to participate in the development and breaking of story while learning to pitch ideas, create outlines, and reading and providing feedback on your colleagues’ work. Each of these steps will be instrumental in aiding you with creating your own pilot!

WRITING FOR TELEVISION: Writing the Television Pilot, PWC 320

DATES: June 4 – July 30
(Please note that the course dates do not correspond to the Summer Semester Time 1 and Time 2 schedules. For drop/withdrawal dates, see the course description details in Records and Registration.)

INSTRUCTOR: Taught by Christina Ham, a highly awarded and prolific writer for both stage and screen, including Sweet Tooth for Netflix, THEM for Amazon, and Westworld for HBO. She was named one of “The Top 20 Most-Produced Playwrights of the 2018-19 Season” by American Theatre magazine.

COST: standard summer tuition rate for 4 credits: $1,704

URGO Academic – Year Research Funds

URGO now has funding for academic-year research grants for undergraduates who wish to gain research experience with an Augsburg faculty member. These grants require 80 hours of research by May 23.

Student-faculty research teams are encouraged to submit proposals immediately. The URGO Advisory Committee will begin reviewing proposals February 21st.

Auggie Basics Housing is designed to address the needs of students who are experiencing housing instability. The purpose of the program is to provide a bridge for students whose housing is not stable as they seek to identify a permanent solution.

Students accepted into Auggie Basics Housing will live on campus without cost to the student. Regardless of when students enter the program, the housing commitment will cover the full academic year if needed. If the student secures permanent housing elsewhere, they will be released from the program and the spot will be offered to another student.

MEAL PLANS:
Students are not required to have a meal plan if they are selected for Auggie Basics Housing, including those placed into buildings that require one.

ELIGIBILITY FOR PROGRAM:
To be eligible for Auggie Basics Housing, students must be returning students and not receiving other housing aid from the University. Incoming first-year and transfer students are not eligible to apply.

Students may apply for housing either for the summer term and/or for the academic year. Students must reapply each academic year, and may be part of the program for up to two academic years. Being chosen for Auggie Basics Housing one year does not guarantee participation in future years.

Augsburg Room Usage and Reservation Process

Earlier in the semester, during the Omicron spike, several rooms on campus were reserved for use by students needing to attend classes offered remotely. These rooms were the Augsburg Room, Cedar Room, and Nelson Room in the Christensen Center; Sverdrup 208; and Oren Gateway Center 103. As we have moved out of the heightened protocols surrounding COVID-19, these rooms are no longer reserved for students and will be available for staff and faculty to reserve. If students are looking for a place to study or meet, Lindell Library has study rooms available as well as spaces like the Christensen Center Student Lounge. All student group related reservations for conference/meeting space should be requested through Auggie Life.

Mike Suter, the current Central Services Lead, will be leaving Augsburg after Friday March 11th. I have accepted a new position within Loffler at a site downtown. Until the interview process for the new site lead is complete Jeni Long, currently the Mail Room operator, will be the interim site lead. There will also be a Loffler CSR to help fill the gap until all Central Services positions are filled.

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, located just off of Lake Street in the 3rd Precinct, found itself at the heart of the explosive response to the brutal killing of George Floyd and the centuries of trauma that preceded his death. During the months that followed the uprising, the church responded by distributing donated food, diapers, toiletries, plywood for boarding up broken windows, cleaning supplies, and tools to the community. This remained a primary part of Holy Trinity’s work throughout the summer and fall of 2020. Pastors Rasmussen and Khabeb will share their insights on preaching during this time of crisis and reflect on how these experiences continue to shape their understanding of theology and ministry.

Problems with production and delays in trucking have the local inventory down to nothing! Lucky for you, Eleanor has several varieties available now: Thin Mints, Carmel DeLites, Shortbread, Lemonades, Toast-Yahs, Peanut Butter Sandwhiches, Peanut Butter Patties, and even a few bags of the Gluten Free Carmel Chocolate Chip! Augsburg Day Student Government (ADSG) is the official governing body of the Day Student population at Augsburg University. There are numerous positions within ADSG that any currently registered undergraduate student that meets eligibility requirements can run for. This is a wonderful opportunity for students who want to champion meaningful change on campus and advocate the concerns and needs of their peers and community.

Augsburg Student Activities Council (ASAC) is a robust student organization that seeks to build community on campus through intentional large-scale programming including but not limited to planning and executing Homecoming, Auggie Days events, Movie Nights, Seasonal Events, and much more. Be a part of creating fun and creative ways for all students to connect to our campus community.

The President and Vice President must run together on the same ticket for both ADSG and ASAC. For other ADSG positions students can run for one or multiple. The remaining ASAC board positions are selected by the President and Vice President.

Summer Course: Writing for Television – Apply Now

Do you love watching television and have ever wondered how the creators wrote their pilot for that hit TV show you love to watch? Or, are you a writer in a different medium and have always wanted to try your hand at writing for television?

Grow your writing skills this summer with the course PWC 320 “Writing for Television”. This intensive course will be modeled on a professional writer’s room and as such all students will be required to actively participate. Students will be expected to participate in the development and breaking of story while learning to pitch ideas, create outlines, and reading and providing feedback on your colleagues’ work. Each of these steps will be instrumental in aiding you with creating your own pilot!

WRITING FOR TELEVISION: Writing the Television Pilot, PWC 320

DATES: June 4 – July 30
(Please note that the course dates do not correspond to the Summer Semester Time 1 and Time 2 schedules. For drop/withdrawal dates, see the course description details in Records and Registration.)

URGO Academic – Year Research Funds

URGO now has funding for academic-year research grants for undergraduates who wish to gain research experience with an Augsburg faculty member. These grants require 80 hours of research by May 23.

Student-faculty research teams are encouraged to submit proposals immediately. The URGO Advisory Committee will begin reviewing proposals February 21st.

The semester program in Southern Africa is particularly great for students with a major, minor, or strong interest in history, political science, religion, CRES, or for those who wish to do an internship in a related field. It is available in both Fall and Spring semesters. Fall 2022 participants will get free airfare!

Students learn about historical and present-day challenges in creating national identity, an inclusive multi-party democracy, and a model for development. Studying Namibia and South Africa’s model and approach to such issues provides a useful context for understanding globalization and nation-building struggles throughout the world. Gain hands-on work experience in a development agency through an academic internship for credit. Earn additional credit in Political Science, Religion, Interdisciplinary Studies, or History, as well as Augsburg Experience.

Auggie Basics Housing – Application Open for Summer 2022 and 2022-2023 Academic Year

Augsburg University is accepting applications for Auggie Basics Housing for summer 2022 and the 2022-23 academic year.

DEADLINE:
Monday, April 4, 2022 at 5pm

ABOUT THE PROGRAM:
Auggie Basics Housing is designed to address the needs of students who are experiencing housing instability. The purpose of the program is to provide a bridge for students whose housing is not stable as they seek to identify a permanent solution.

Students accepted into Auggie Basics Housing will live on campus without cost to the student. Regardless of when students enter the program, the housing commitment will cover the full academic year if needed. If the student secures permanent housing elsewhere, they will be released from the program and the spot will be offered to another student.

MEAL PLANS:
Students are not required to have a meal plan if they are selected for Auggie Basics Housing, including those placed into buildings that require one.

ELIGIBILITY FOR PROGRAM:
To be eligible for Auggie Basics Housing, students must be returning students and not receiving other housing aid from the University. Incoming first-year and transfer students are not eligible to apply.

Students may apply for housing either for the summer term and/or for the academic year. Students must reapply each academic year, and may be part of the program for up to two academic years. Being chosen for Auggie Basics Housing one year does not guarantee participation in future years.
