LSAMP NSS Funding for National Society of Black Engineers Convention

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is holding its 44th annual convention March 21-25, 2018 in Pittsburgh, PA. NSBE’s mission is “to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.” (www.nsbe.org) Students who have attended in past years have found the conference to be an excellent professional development opportunity.

Augsburg students who are eligible for funding through LSAMP NSS may apply for travel funding to attend the NSBE convention. Application deadlines for these programs are most often near the start of next semester (January, February), so Winter Break is the perfect time to get started! URGO will be hosting a workshop January 15th where students will receive one on one advising and feedback on their applications. Six More Days to Find the Writing Lab

There are only six days left for students to use the help available from the wonderful writing tutors in the WL! If you haven’t already visited the Writing Lab, it’s time to do so! About 850 Auggies have already used the WL this semester. Writing Lab tutors await all students, grad and undergrad, and their written work – essays, applications, personal statements, creative writing. The Lab is located on the street level of Lindell Library and is just left of the circulation desk. No appointments are taken.
Here are the hours:

Mondays – 11:10–1:40 p.m., and 6:30–9:30 p.m.
Tuesdays – 12:30–3 p.m.; 3:30–6 p.m., and 7:30–10 p.m.
Wednesdays –11:10–1:40 p.m.; 3:30–6 p.m., and 6:30–9 p.m.

If there is an emergency during this outage you should dial 911 and attempt to notify Public Safety as soon as possible. Music Theatre Club: The Drowsy Chaperone Auditions

The Music Theatre Club’s spring musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, is a fully student run production with the purpose of bringing new and additional performance or production opportunities to all Augsburg students. If you are interested in auditioning for a role in The Drowsy Chaperone, there is a two-day audition process for which you must sign-up and attend.

***Audition sign-ups are located on the door if the Sateren Auditorium on the main floor of Anderson Music Hall.***

Friday, December 15th (Song/Monologue Audition- Day 1)
Sign up for an audition slot between 6pm-9pm.

For the audition, please prepare the following:
1. 60 Second Monologue: Perform a monologue of your choice that is upwards of one minute in length. Memorization is not required but recommended.
2. 32 Bars of a Musical Theatre Song: Perform up to 32 bars (ex. a verse and a chorus) of a song of your choosing. You MAY choose to perform an excerpt of a song from The Drowsy Chaperone. Memorization is not required but recommended. Please bring a copy of sheet music for the accompanist.
Location: M3 (Choir Room in Anderson Music Hall)

Saturday, December 16th (Dance Audition- Day 2)

The Sesquicentennial Academic Sub-Committee is looking for project ideas and project leaders that will make the celebration of our Sesquicentennial year a special year for students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of Augsburg. Funds are available for evocative projects of all kinds that reflect Augsburg’s mission, academic excellence and community. The 150th anniversary will be celebrated between Homecoming 2019 and Homecoming 2020. Our aim is to have all Sesquicentennial projects identified by Spring 2018.

NicaHOPE is a non-profit that teaches economical skills to the Acahualinca community surrounding the Managua city dump. MEA, PA, and MAL students have the opportunity to visit NicaHOPE on one of many site locations during a study abroad course. After visiting the center and seeing the city dump which had been home for the people we met, we wondered whether there was a way to support them. It turns out that we were able to order a box of jewelry, bringing Nicaragua to you!

The jewelry is beautiful, unique, and well-made. There are some ornaments available as well. Items are marked $5 and up.

Music Industry Legend, Peter Asher, CBE – Guest speaker

The Music Department is honored to host Multi-Grammy award-winning, Music Industry Legend; Peter Asher, CBE for a one-hour Q&A session in the Sateren Auditorium on December 13 at 12:00pm. Peter Asher will being discussing a variety of topics on the evolution and current state of the music industry. Augsburg University Instructor of Music Business; Brian Lukasavitz will serve as moderator. Peter Asher, CBE will also be performing at the Dakota Jazz Club on December 12 and 13.

Peter Asher, CBE formerly of the rock n roll duo; “Peter & Gordon” has a unique perspective on the music industry. As an artist, he scored ten Top Forty songs, including three top ten songs and the chart-topping “A World Without Love”. As a producer and manager, he has worked with everyone from James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Ringo Starr, Cher, 10,000 Maniacs, Diana Ross, Neil Diamond and many others. He has earned three Grammy Awards, is a 2018 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominee and in 2015 was honored as a Commander of the Order of British Empire for service to the British Music Industry. He has served as the first head of A&R for Apple Records and was the former Senior Vice President of Sony Records. The Augsburg University Music Department is honored to welcome Peter Asher, CBE to our campus and community.

LSAMP NSS Funding Opportunities for Underrepresented Students in STEM

Are you an underrepresented student pursuing a degree in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)? If so, you might be eligible to participate in LSAMP North Star STEM (NSS). Augsburg’s LSAMP NSS program is designed to help STEM students succeed through peer mentoring, workshops, research opportunities, industry visits, and conference travel. LSAMP NSS funding opportunities include:

-Professional development stipends (up to $500) for participation in LSAMP NSS programming
-Travel funding for professional STEM conferences (including airfare and lodging)
-Academic year or summer research funding (contingent on mentor match)

STEM majors at Augsburg: biology, biopsychology, chemistry, computer science, environmental studies, mathematics, physics

LSAMP NSS eligibility:
-Full-time student pursuing a STEM major.
-US citizen or permanent resident.
-Underrepresented in STEM as defined by the National Science Foundation (NSF). This includes being Black, Hispanic/Latinx, Native American, Alaska Native or Pacific Islander.

NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Scholarship: application deadline Friday, Jan. 19

Students can now apply for the 2017-18 NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Scholarship Program at Augsburg College. This scholarship program supports the advancement of academically focused undergraduates seeking professional careers in the natural sciences, especially space physics & engineering, mathematics, and science/mathematics education.

This competitive program awards 6 scholarships for spring semester, 2018, in the following areas:
**Emerging Scholarship (Sophomore-Junior). Four scholarships of $1000 to encourage students whose course of study shows progress in meeting the criteria of this scholarship program.
**Enhanced Scholarship (Sophomore-Senior). Two scholarships of $2000 to support students who have shown considerable progress in meeting the criteria of this scholarship program.

Strong candidates for the grant will be students who…
-are a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computer science, pre-engineering, or mathematics/science education;
-can demonstrate strong academic performance and leadership within their major area; and
-show an interest in contributing to NASA’s mission.

Please note that students from traditionally underrepresented groups in science and mathematics fields are especially encouraged to apply. No applicant shall be denied consideration based on race, creed, color, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, or ability.

Palestine & Israel: Summer study abroad program

Study abroad for two weeks in summer 2018:
INTERFAITH ENGAGEMENT IN PALESTINE AND ISRAEL

Courses: RLN 205 or RLN 490. This program also fulfills Augsburg Experience

Join this two-week course to gain a transformational learning experience. You will be immersed in the Israeli and Palestinian contexts, particularly focusing on the three Abrahamic faiths – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Through lectures, readings, and conversations you will deepen your understanding of the history, sacred texts, beliefs and practices of the three Abrahamic faiths. Particular attention will be given to the roots of conflicts in the region and to peacebuilding movements.
We will visit holy sites that are at the center of the sacred stories that shape the beliefs and practices of Jews, Christians, and Muslims. We will hear how faith shapes the daily lives of those living in the land often called “holy.”

Music Therapy in China: Summer study abroad program

Study abroad for two weeks in summer 2018:
MUSIC THERAPY IN CHINA: CHONGQING BURN CAMP

Course options:
-MUS 374, -MUS 474, or MUS 582. It also fulfills Augsburg Experience

Music therapists benefit greatly from exploring the evolution of music from one generation to the next, the way in which music is integrated into everyday life, and its role in health, healing, and well-being in China. Through visits to hospitals, clinics, musical venues, conservatories, and community organizations that provide health related care, students experience the interplay of music and healing practices in China. Students also engage in direct dialogue with Chinese music therapists and other rehabilitation therapists. The program allows participants to reflect on their own musical roots, and to discover how their own musical preferences have developed based on cultural experiences. We will also visit other locations of interest such as The Great Wall, Old-Town Beijing, Dazu Rock Carvings, Yangtze River Cruise and more.

River Semester Fall 2018 – Apply Now

Students interested in a once-in- a-lifetime opportunity to travel the length of the Mississippi River as part of a full semester of courses should check out Augsburg’s River Semester program for Fall 2018. Students in the program will spend 100 days paddling from the Twin Cities, to St. Louis, Memphis, and beyond, before returning to the Twin Cities in December.

The Fund For Education Abroad has opened their annual scholarship application. To be eligible, an applicant must meet the following criteria:

**U.S. citizen or permanent resident
**Currently enrolled as undergraduate at U.S. university or college
**Minimum of 4 weeks (28 days) in-country study
**Study abroad programs must take place in summer 2018, fall 2018, and/or spring 2019
**Program must be eligible for academic credit

The journal publishes undergraduate work and is a great CV entry for students who hope to attend graduate school.

Despite the name, the Review accepts submissions from all students, not just honors students; submission is also free.

Music Theatre Club: The Drowsy Chaperone Auditions

The Music Theatre Club’s spring musical, The Drowsy Chaperone, is a fully student run production with the purpose of bringing new and additional performance or production opportunities to all Augsburg students. If you are interested in auditioning for a role in The Drowsy Chaperone, there is a two-day audition process for which you must sign-up and attend.

***Audition sign-ups are located on the door if the Tjornhom-Nelson Theater on the main floor of Foss.***

Friday, December 15th (Song/Monologue Audition- Day 1)
Sign up for an audition slot between 6pm-9pm.

For the audition, please prepare the following:
1. 60 Second Monologue: Perform a monologue of your choice that is upwards of one minute in length. Memorization is not required but recommended.
2. 32 Bars of a Musical Theatre Song: Perform up to 32 bars (ex. a verse and a chorus) of a song of your choosing. You MAY choose to perform an excerpt of a song from The Drowsy Chaperone. Memorization is not required but recommended. Please bring a copy of sheet music for the accompanist.
Location: M3 (Choir Room in Anderson Music Hall)

LSAMP NSS Funding Opportunities for Underrepresented Students in STEM

Are you an underrepresented student pursuing a degree in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)? If so, you might be eligible to participate in LSAMP North Star STEM (NSS). Augsburg’s LSAMP NSS program is designed to help STEM students succeed through peer mentoring, workshops, research opportunities, industry visits, and conference travel. LSAMP NSS funding opportunities include:

-Professional development stipends (up to $500) for participation in LSAMP NSS programming
-Travel funding for professional STEM conferences (including airfare and lodging)
-Academic year or summer research funding (contingent on mentor match)

STEM majors at Augsburg: biology, biopsychology, chemistry, computer science, environmental studies, mathematics, physics

LSAMP NSS eligibility:
-Full-time student pursuing a STEM major.
-US citizen or permanent resident.
-Underrepresented in STEM as defined by the National Science Foundation (NSF). This includes being Black, Hispanic/Latinx, Native American, Alaska Native or Pacific Islander.

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is an initiative funded by the NSF to support underrepresented students pursuing a STEM degree. Minnesota’s LSAMP program is called the North Star STEM Alliance and includes 17 colleges, universities and community organizations.

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is holding its 44th annual convention March 21-25, 2018 in Pittsburgh, PA. NSBE’s mission is “to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.” (www.nsbe.org) Students who have attended in past years have found the conference to be an excellent professional development opportunity.

Augsburg students who are eligible for funding through LSAMP NSS may apply for travel funding to attend the NSBE convention. NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Scholarship: application deadline Friday, Jan. 19

Students can now apply for the 2017-18 NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Scholarship Program at Augsburg College. This scholarship program supports the advancement of academically focused undergraduates seeking professional careers in the natural sciences, especially space physics & engineering, mathematics, and science/mathematics education.

This competitive program awards 6 scholarships for spring semester, 2018, in the following areas:
**Emerging Scholarship (Sophomore-Junior). Four scholarships of $1000 to encourage students whose course of study shows progress in meeting the criteria of this scholarship program.
**Enhanced Scholarship (Sophomore-Senior). Two scholarships of $2000 to support students who have shown considerable progress in meeting the criteria of this scholarship program.

Strong candidates for the grant will be students who…
-are a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computer science, pre-engineering, or mathematics/science education;
-can demonstrate strong academic performance and leadership within their major area; and
-show an interest in contributing to NASA’s mission.

Please note that students from traditionally underrepresented groups in science and mathematics fields are especially encouraged to apply. No applicant shall be denied consideration based on race, creed, color, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, or ability.

Denmark & Iceland: Summer study abroad program

Study abroad for two weeks in summer 2018:
THE DARK SIDE OF THE HAPPY CITY IN DENMARK & ICELAND

Courses: ENL 270 or ENL 395, AND SOC 111/URB 111, or SOC 295/URB 295 The program also fulfills Augsburg Experience

In this program, students will have the opportunity to learn about two amazing cities: Reykjavik and Copenhagen and earn 8 credits at the same time! This two-course Augsburg Abroad experience explores the relationship between city and text; it is an interdisciplinary celebration of cities, with Reykjavik and Copenhagen and their environs as the sites of the celebration. Students will access the artistic heart of the city by immersing themselves in the real-life locations of Hamlet, Copenhagen Noir, and major films. Simultaneously, they will tour Copenhagen (often via bike and public transport) to learn why it is a mecca of urban sustainability and livability with some of the most inspired public spaces in the world. The program will also include a one-night stopover in Iceland, where students can explore Icelandic community life, explore its Viking history and storytelling (sagas).

Study abroad for two weeks in summer 2018:
INTERFAITH ENGAGEMENT IN PALESTINE AND ISRAEL

Courses: RLN 205 or RLN 490. This program also fulfills Augsburg Experience

Join this two-week course to gain a transformational learning experience. You will be immersed in the Israeli and Palestinian contexts, particularly focusing on the three Abrahamic faiths – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Through lectures, readings, and conversations you will deepen your understanding of the history, sacred texts, beliefs and practices of the three Abrahamic faiths. Particular attention will be given to the roots of conflicts in the region and to peacebuilding movements.
We will visit holy sites that are at the center of the sacred stories that shape the beliefs and practices of Jews, Christians, and Muslims. We will hear how faith shapes the daily lives of those living in the land often called “holy.”

River Semester Fall 2018 – Apply Now

Students interested in a once-in- a-lifetime opportunity to travel the length of the Mississippi River as part of a full semester of courses should check out Augsburg’s River Semester program for Fall 2018. Students in the program will spend 100 days paddling from the Twin Cities, to St. Louis, Memphis, and beyond, before returning to the Twin Cities in December.

Courses offered include:

Thailand & Laos: Summer study abroad program

Study abroad for two weeks in summer 2018:
DIVERSITY AND INEQUALITY IN GLOBAL PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE IN THAILAND & LAOS

Course: SWK 280 (elective credit for non-majors, requirement for social work majors). It also fulfills Augsburg Experience!

This program explores diversity and social inequality as a prerequisite to professional social work practice in a global context – specifically, in the context of Southeast Asia and Hmong culture. A critical dimension of professional practice is competence in work with diverse populations. The course introduces students to key theories and constructs undergirding cultural competence, including social construction theory, social contact theory, aversive racism, implicit bias, and micro-aggressions. Additionally, course introduces key social work practice models and frameworks as they pertain to cultural competence, including systems theory, ecological framework, strengths perspective and person-in- environment.

Mexico: Summer study abroad program

Earn language, Art, Keystone, or Internship credit in Mexico this summer:
AUGSBURG CGEE IN MEXICO: LANGUAGE AND CULTURE IN MEXICO

CGEE in Mexico offers five 3 1/2 week sessions (blocks) focusing on Spanish language and Mexican culture in which students can take one course per session, and take up to five courses throughout the summer. This community-based program includes homestays, a trip to Mexico City, optional weekend excursions, and numerous guest speakers designed to help students learn about history, culture, and contemporary struggles for peace, justice, and human rights.

Spanish language courses at all levels beginning to advanced, as well as specialized Spanish courses in Business Spanish, Spanish for Ministry, and Spanish for Healthcare Professionals can be combined with internships in those fields to create a truly customized summer experience.

2018 PROGRAM DATES
The summer is organized into five blocks, you may take anywhere from one to five blocks. Students who wish to take an internship must enroll for at least two blocks:
Block I: May 2-27
Block II: May 23-June 17 (KEY 490 offered only during Block II)
Block III: June 13-July 8
Block IV: July 5-29
Block V: July 25-August 19

Applications are due March 15, 2018

Scholarships are available!

The Music Department is honored to host Multi-Grammy award-winning, Music Industry Legend; Peter Asher, CBE for a one-hour Q&A session in the Sateren Auditorium on December 13 at 12:00pm. Peter Asher will being discussing a variety of topics on the evolution and current state of the music industry. Augsburg University Instructor of Music Business; Brian Lukasavitz will serve as moderator. Peter Asher, CBE will also be performing at the Dakota Jazz Club on December 12 and 13.

Peter Asher, CBE formerly of the rock n roll duo; “Peter & Gordon” has a unique perspective on the music industry. As an artist, he scored ten Top Forty songs, including three top ten songs and the chart-topping “A World Without Love”. As a producer and manager, he has worked with everyone from James Taylor, Linda Ronstadt, Ringo Starr, Cher, 10,000 Maniacs, Diana Ross, Neil Diamond and many others. He has earned three Grammy Awards, is a 2018 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominee and in 2015 was honored as a Commander of the Order of British Empire for service to the British Music Industry. He has served as the first head of A&R for Apple Records and was the former Senior Vice President of Sony Records. The Augsburg University Music Department is honored to welcome Peter Asher, CBE to our campus and community.

Writing Lab tutors await all students, grad and undergrad, and their written work – essays, applications, personal statements, creative writing. The Lab is located on the street level of Lindell Library and is just left of the circulation desk. No appointments are taken.

Gospel, Funk and Soul band “The Sons of Almighty” will perform a “Funky Christmas” in chapel Friday morning, December 15. The musicians are local rock legends, but they are also world renowned: Michael Bland, Sonny Thompson, Tommy Barbarella, Julius Collins & Tracey Blake. The first 3 are the core members of the New Power Generation, what Prince called ‘the baddest band in the land’. Friday at 10:40 am in Hoversten Chapel.

Only a couple weeks left before the semester ends! Please keep Campus Cupboard in mind as you are cleaning out your space. If there are any unwanted, gently used clothing or miscellaneous items like plant pots, mugs, and office supplies, feel free to donate them to Campus Cupboard! We will gladly take them.

Food items are also still needed at the Cupboard. Some examples of items: canned soups, canned veggies and fruits, canned pasta sauce, instant rice, ramen, granola bars, spices, soup packs, etc. Please consider donating if you’re willing and able!

He has earned three Grammy Awards, is a 2018 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominee and in 2015 was honored as a Commander of the Order of British Empire for service to the British Music Industry. He has served as the first head of A&R for Apple Records and was the former Senior Vice President of Sony Records. LSAMP NSS Funding Opportunities for Underrepresented Students in STEM

Are you an underrepresented student pursuing a degree in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics)? If so, you might be eligible to participate in LSAMP North Star STEM (NSS). Augsburg’s LSAMP NSS program is designed to help STEM students succeed through peer mentoring, workshops, research opportunities, industry visits, and conference travel. LSAMP NSS funding opportunities include:

-Professional development stipends (up to $500) for participation in LSAMP NSS programming
-Travel funding for professional STEM conferences (including airfare and lodging)
-Academic year or summer research funding (contingent on mentor match)

STEM majors at Augsburg: biology, biopsychology, chemistry, computer science, environmental studies, mathematics, physics

LSAMP NSS eligibility:
-Full-time student pursuing a STEM major.
-US citizen or permanent resident.
-Underrepresented in STEM as defined by the National Science Foundation (NSF). This includes being Black, Hispanic/Latinx, Native American, Alaska Native or Pacific Islander.

The Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (LSAMP) is an initiative funded by the NSF to support underrepresented students pursuing a STEM degree. Minnesota’s LSAMP program is called the North Star STEM Alliance and includes 17 colleges, universities and community organizations.

LSAMP NSS Funding for National Society of Black Engineers Convention

The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) is holding its 44th annual convention March 21-25, 2018 in Pittsburgh, PA. NSBE’s mission is “to increase the number of culturally responsible Black Engineers who excel academically, succeed professionally and positively impact the community.” (www.nsbe.org) Students who have attended in past years have found the conference to be an excellent professional development opportunity.

Augsburg students who are eligible for funding through LSAMP NSS may apply for travel funding to attend the NSBE convention. NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Scholarship: Call for Applications – deadline Fri., Jan. 19

Students can now apply for the 2017-18 NASA Space Grant Undergraduate Scholarship Program at Augsburg College. This scholarship program supports the advancement of academically focused undergraduates seeking professional careers in the natural sciences, especially space physics & engineering, mathematics, and science/mathematics education.

This competitive program awards 6 scholarships for spring semester, 2018, in the following areas:
Emerging Scholarship (Sophomore-Junior). Four scholarships of $1000 to encourage students whose course of study shows progress in meeting the criteria of this scholarship program.
Enhanced Scholarship (Sophomore-Senior). Two scholarships of $2000 to support students who have shown considerable progress in meeting the criteria of this scholarship program.

Strong candidates for the grant will be students who…
are a sophomore, junior, or senior majoring in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, computer science, pre-engineering, or mathematics/science education;
can demonstrate strong academic performance and leadership within their major area; and
show an interest in contributing to NASA’s mission.

Please note that students from traditionally underrepresented groups in science and mathematics fields are especially encouraged to apply. No applicant shall be denied consideration based on race, creed, color, national origin, age, gender, sexual orientation, or ability.

Deadline for application: Friday, January 19, 2017.

Denmark & Iceland: Summer study abroad program

Study abroad for two weeks in summer 2018:
THE DARK SIDE OF THE HAPPY CITY IN DENMARK & ICELAND

Courses: ENL 270 or ENL 395, AND SOC 111/URB 111, or SOC 295/URB 295 The program also fulfills Augsburg Experience

In this program, students will have the opportunity to learn about two amazing cities: Reykjavik and Copenhagen and earn 8 credits at the same time! This two-course Augsburg Abroad experience explores the relationship between city and text; it is an interdisciplinary celebration of cities, with Reykjavik and Copenhagen and their environs as the sites of the celebration. Students will access the artistic heart of the city by immersing themselves in the real-life locations of Hamlet, Copenhagen Noir, and major films. Simultaneously, they will tour Copenhagen (often via bike and public transport) to learn why it is a mecca of urban sustainability and livability with some of the most inspired public spaces in the world. The program will also include a one-night stopover in Iceland, where students can explore Icelandic community life, explore its Viking history and storytelling (sagas).

Palestine & Israel: Summer study abroad program

Study abroad for two weeks in summer 2018:
INTERFAITH ENGAGEMENT IN PALESTINE AND ISRAEL

Courses: RLN 205 or RLN 490. This program also fulfills Augsburg Experience

Join this two-week course to gain a transformational learning experience. You will be immersed in the Israeli and Palestinian contexts, particularly focusing on the three Abrahamic faiths – Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. Through lectures, readings, and conversations you will deepen your understanding of the history, sacred texts, beliefs and practices of the three Abrahamic faiths. Particular attention will be given to the roots of conflicts in the region and to peacebuilding movements.
We will visit holy sites that are at the center of the sacred stories that shape the beliefs and practices of Jews, Christians, and Muslims. We will hear how faith shapes the daily lives of those living in the land often called “holy.”

River Semester Fall 2018 – Apply Now

Students interested in a once-in- a-lifetime opportunity to travel the length of the Mississippi River as part of a full semester of courses should check out Augsburg’s River Semester program for Fall 2018. Students in the program will spend 100 days paddling from the Twin Cities, to St. Louis, Memphis, and beyond, before returning to the Twin Cities in December.

Courses offered include:

POL 241 Environmental and River Politics (meets Liberal Arts Foundation for Social and Behavioral Sciences)
ENV 310 Environmental Studies Field Seminar. Study grassroots organizing and meeting with stakeholders throughout the watershed.

Music Therapy in China: Summer study abroad program

Study abroad for two weeks in summer 2018:
MUSIC THERAPY IN CHINA: CHONGQING BURN CAMP

Course options:
-MUS 374, -MUS 474, or MUS 582. It also fulfills Augsburg Experience

Music therapists benefit greatly from exploring the evolution of music from one generation to the next, the way in which music is integrated into everyday life, and its role in health, healing, and well-being in China. Through visits to hospitals, clinics, musical venues, conservatories, and community organizations that provide health related care, students experience the interplay of music and healing practices in China. Students also engage in direct dialogue with Chinese music therapists and other rehabilitation therapists. The program allows participants to reflect on their own musical roots, and to discover how their own musical preferences have developed based on cultural experiences. We will also visit other locations of interest such as The Great Wall, Old-Town Beijing, Dazu Rock Carvings, Yangtze River Cruise and more.

The Fund For Education Abroad has opened their annual scholarship application. To be eligible, an applicant must meet the following criteria:

**U.S. citizen or permanent resident
**Currently enrolled as undergraduate at U.S. university or college
**Minimum of 4 weeks (28 days) in-country study
**Study abroad programs must take place in summer 2018, fall 2018, and/or spring 2019
**Program must be eligible for academic credit

Applications are open November 15 through January 10.

The StepUP Peer Advisors from the StepUP Program at Augsburg University have organized a toy drive to support Toys for Tots this holiday season. If you are a student, staff, or faculty member, who is willing to donate brand new toys (not used) to this great cause, please drop off any donation in the StepUP Office. The StepUP Office is located on the second floor of the Oren Gateway Center. We will be accepting donations until December 20th. AURA Presents Open Recovery Meeting

Parking in the roundabout in front of the Hagfors center on 8th street is not permitted at any time. You must also not stop your vehicle on the roundabout or use this space to wait for anyone at any time. This is used as a traffic control circle and any violations of this will be enforced with citations and/or towing at the owner’s expense.

Surface Lot A will remain a Carpool ONLY lot. To park in this lot, you must have a valid carpool permit. To obtain a carpool permit, you must meet all of the appropriate criteria. All of the details on this are listed on the Public Safety website.
