Reproductive Freedom Lobby Day | Tuesday, February 21

submitted by gilmerje@augsburg.edu

Reproductive Freedom Lobby Day

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 21, 2023 AT 8 AM – 4 PM
Minnesota State Capitol: 75 Rev Dr Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, St Paul, MN

Minnesotans made their voices heard by electing the first pro-reproductive freedom state legislature in decades. But the work isn’t done, now we must show up louder and stronger than ever to push decision makers to pass bold legislation protecting and expanding abortion access in Minnesota.

Our Leadership Agenda for Abortion Access creates a clear path, but legislators need to hear from you that reproductive rights, health, and justice is still a priority for you. On lobby day, you will have the opportunity to ask your representative to:
– Repeal Minnesota’s Unnecessary Restrictions to Abortion
– Protect Patients from Post-Roe Attacks
– Ensure Equitable and Affordable Access to Abortion Care

You will get the resources and training you need to be equipped to talk to your representatives. You’ll also get to hear from leaders and healthcare providers across the state who are fighting for reproductive freedom. The day will culminate with a rally in the rotunda.

Thank you for joining us to advocate for every Minnesotan’s right to make their own decisions about if and when to become a parent.

We LOVE Our Middle School Debate Judges (Especially on Valentine’s Day)!

The Minnesota Urban Debate League is a program of Augsburg University which provides academic competitive debate programming to middle and high school students in the Twin Cities Metro. We are currently in the middle of our Middle School Debate season!

This year, one of our middle school debate tournaments happens to fall on Valentine’s Day. Why not bring a date to do some good, with plenty of time for your dinner reservation afterward? Or if you’re single, why not mingle with some debate folks? Volunteers on this day will get an exclusive MNUDL valentine & goodie bag! Seriously, we do need judges and we would if you could help. Sign up here to judge from 3:30-7:30 at Central High School in St. Paul. https://mnudl.augsburg.edu/volunteer-opportunities/

No experience? No problem. We train judges at every tournament. Judges watch students debate, provide constructive verbal and written feedback, and choose the winner of the debate.

ABOUT THIS SHOW

“You’ve never heard anything quite like Joe Rainey’s avant-garde Pow Wow music.” – Pitchfork

Niineta, Joe Rainey’s debut album on 37d03d, is a landmark in modern Indigenous music. These are bold, electrifying songs that recontextualize the ancient Pow Wow sound in strange, new in-between places. Each note conveys a clear message, no matter the inflection: We’re still here. The songs that make up Niineta (translated from Ojibwe, meaning ‘Just Me’) start with Andrew Broder’s churning avant-garde beats, configured and hand-made to support Joe’s original melodies, tunes written from a lifetime of competitive Pow Wow singing and drum group archiving. All of this is embraced by and interwoven with celestial strings, arranged by Broder and William Brittelle, performed by “dream group” (The New York Times) Owls, giving Joe’s melodies an ecstatic lift. Visuals for the show will be provided by experimental filmmaker Isaac Gale, who has collaborated with Rainey, Broder, and Brittelle on multiple projects.
