The Augsburg choral faculty will be hearing placement auditions for Cedar Singers, Riverside Singers, and the Augsburg Choir on September 5th, 6th, and 7th. All University students are eligible – and heartily welcomed – to audition. If you were in Augsburg Choir last year, you are accepted to continue in AC this year, and there is no need to take these auditions. But we want to hear you if you are:
a First-Year student.
a Transfer student.
a previous member of Cedar Singers.
a previous member of Riverside Singers seeking consideration
for Augsburg Choir.
a returning student who has not previously been involved in our choirs.
Please take careful note of these auditions procedures:
1. Sign up for your audition slot in Anderson Music Hall. Between the band and choir rooms, M2 and M3, you will find a bulletin board where the sign-up sheets will be posted.
2. Arrive at least 15 minutes early at the choir room (M3) to access and complete the intake sheet and music-literacy assessment. (Never fear: we will use this assessment to inform our work with you, not to exclude you from participation.)
3. There is no need to prepare any song performance for this audition.
4. Results will be posted by Saturday morning on the same bulletin board where you found the sign-up sheets.
5. If you have questions, please contact the Music Office at musicdept@augsburg.edu or (612) 330-1265.

Augsburg University Human Resources and the Strommen Career & Internship Services are pleased to announce that starting this fall, students will find all on-campus student positions posted through Handshake. Handshake was implemented July 2017 and is a platform for students to schedule career coaching appointments, register for events and fairs, search for jobs and internships off campus, and now find all on-campus student employment.

Departments will continue to create requisitions, hire forms, student paperwork, etc. through Human Resources and Interview Exchange/Hirezon. You will still view applicants through Interview Exchange/Hirezon. This process has not changed.
What has changed is the link of how students find on-campus student jobs.
1. Log into: Inside Augsburg
2. Click On-Campus Student Jobs
3. First time users of Handshake will be asked to activate their account (this takes 90 seconds).
4. Select the On-campus box under Jobs tab, click search
5. Apply to jobs!
The Strommen Center would like to encourage staff and faculty when working with students to find employment opportunities, to have the student log into Handshake.
If staff or faculty would like a student account, so you can see what a student sees, please email careers@augsburg.edu and we will create an account for you

A reminder that the first day of the 2018-19 academic school year is September 5, 2018. When the academic year begins after Labor Day, it is not a designated holiday for non-union staff. You will need to used vacation or floating holiday time if you plan on taking the day off.

“A moral play without a moral”.
The gullible and easily manipulated Biedermann yearns both for a sense of shallow propriety as well as for a deeper sense of belonging, even if it comes at a great price.

It is with deep sadness that I write to share the news that Michelle Nies passed away from cancer on August 9. Despite her illness, Michelle remained committed to her job and led by example. She was a strong champion of the work her staff does to create the best physical environment for our students, faculty and staff. Her positive approach to life was evident and has impacted us all.
For the past five years, Michelle served the Augsburg community first as the Custodial Services Supervisor and later as the Custodial Services Manager. Michelle also served on staff senate for two years and participated on a variety of committees during her time at Augsburg.
For many years, she was an active board member of the MN chapter of the International Executive Housekeepers Association. In 2017, Michelle received her bachelors degree from Metro State University. However, her biggest source of pride was her son, Christopher, who is a student at Augsburg and on the Dean’s List.
We are grateful for Michelle’s many contributions to the Augsburg community. Our heartfelt prayers go out to Michelle’s husband, Paul, her son Christopher, and her extended family.
The funeral service will be at 10 AM Saturday, August 18 at Roseville Lutheran Church, 1215 W. Roselawn Avenue. Visitation will be from 9-10 AM prior to the service at church.
Augsburg will also have a gathering for a time of remembrance in the coming month. Additional details will be shared as soon as they become available.

Fall semester is fast approaching and the first day of student employment for the academic year is September 9th! If you are planning on having students working during the academic year, please be sure to review the information below regarding student positions.
Steps to follow when hiring a student worker for 2018-2019
1) Students returning into a position they held previously will only need a Student Employment Hire Form submitted through Hirezon/Interview Exchange. The effective date should be 9/9/2018.
2) Students working this summer, their job will end effective 9/8/2018 because they need to move to a school year position. You will need to complete the Student Employment Hire Form for these students too.
3) Any new position will need to be posted through Human Resources to the internal student jobs board. Student Requisitions can be submitted though Hirezon/Interview Exchange. Once it’s submitted, we will post the position online. Hiring managers will be able to view applications in real time through the system.
4) When you’ve selected a student to hire, complete the Student Employment Hire Form through Hirezon/Interview Exchange. Students, who have never worked on campus before, will need to fill out new hire paperwork, including a background check. HR sends out the new hire paperwork and background check to the student once the Student Employment Hire Form is submitted. Students cannot start work prior to that paperwork completion and they are authorized to work.
Instructions for navigating Hirezon/Interview Exchange can be found at this link: http://web.augsburg.edu/hr/Student/Supervisor_Recruiting_Process.pdf.
Please contact HR at hr@augsburg.edu with questions.

Please join all of us in the Gage Center in wishing Regina Hopingardner a fond farewell as she is leaving Augsburg to pursue other professional opportunities.
Regina has made countless contributions to Augsburg over the years, especially to the work of the CLASS/Disability Resources office. We will miss her outstanding organizational skills, her strategic thinking, her warmth and humor, and demonstrated commitment to access and equity for people with disabilities. Regina has requested
there be no formal farewell gathering, but I know you will want to join many of us in thanking her for all of her hard work and to wish her well in her
future endeavors. Regina’s last day is Wednesday, august 1.

Please join me in congratulating David Hamilton, CGEE’s Director of Operations and Global Inclusion Initiatives, who will be leaving Augsburg on August 3 to become the executive director of the Cedar Cultural Center. This is an exciting opportunity for David, one that will use his wide-ranging skills in organizing, strategic planning, and financial management. It is also an exciting opportunity for the Cedar Cultural Center, for David comes with an extraordinary talent for building teams and articulating mission.
We are very happy for David as a colleague and a friend, but we will miss him greatly. He has led CGEE through numerous transitions, spearheaded innovation, and been a constant source of wisdom and institutional memory. He has also been key in advancing the diversity and inclusion commitments that define CGEE’s values.
A transition plan is taking shape and will be shared with CGEE stakeholders soon. I am consulting with CGEE staff and management team members to ensure that the support David has provided will continue and to assess new possibilities for organizational growth.
