Overcoming Racism Conference, November 15 and 16

submitted by youngs@augsburg.edu

Save the dates of November 15 & 16 for the 2019 Overcoming Racism Conference at Metropolitan State University.

This is the 11th year that Facilitating Racial Equity Collaborative (FREC) has presented the Overcoming Racism Conference. It’s a time to celebrate, to rededicate to this work, to elevate our learning and skills, and to network with each other to strengthen our movement. This year’s conference theme is “Dismantling White Supremacy – Its Power, Structures, & Culture”. You can find full information on the website at http://www.overcomingracism.org

We are excited to announce the keynote speakers for the opening: Joe Feagin and Winona LaDuke!

Joe Feagin, the Ella C. McFadden and Distinguished Professor at Texas A&M University, does major research on systemic racism, classism, and sexism issues. He has published 70 scholarly books in these research areas.

Winona LaDuke, the Environmentalist, Political Activist, Founder and Co-Director of Honor the Earth, Founder of the White Earth Land Recovery Project. She has written extensively on Native American and environmental issues.

Keynote presentations plus many worthwhile workshops are planned for both days! We encourage you to register early (registration opens Sept. 1) as the conference has sold out in previous years, even before the end of early-bird registration! As has been true in past years, the conference fee should not be an obstacle that keeps anyone from attending (scholarship options are available when registering.)
