Faculty Applications for Travel This Summer Due Wednesday, June 15

submitted by reederm@augsburg.edu

Because of the temporary reduction in full-time faculty professional development funds allocated to Augsburg’s Faculty Development Program (aka CTL), the Program has created a grant review procedure and policy to ensure equitable funding for 2022-2023. (see link to full policy on the CTL website below)

The biggest change for faculty are the new application deadlines. To ensure equitable distribution of grant funding, the FDC will be reviewing grants in bulk four times during the year. The deadline for your grant application depends primarily on WHEN you will be traveling/having expenses. Please note that you may submit a grant application at any time before your preferred deadline; however grants will not be reviewed until the deadline closes.

Round 1 Deadline: June 15, 2022 (for travel/expenses June – Aug 2022)
Round 2 Deadline: July 1, 2022 (for travel/expenses Sep – Nov 2022)
Round 3 Deadline: October 1, 2022 (for travel/expenses Dec 2022 – Feb 2023)
Round 4 Deadline: January 1, 2023 (for travel/expenses Mar – May 2023)

There is additional and more specific information on the CTL website (see link below) which should answer most of your questions! Please contact CTL (ctl@augsburg.edu) if you have any questions about this temporary policy or would like more information.

Shonna Fulford Named Director of Admissions

submitted by gouldr2@augsburg.edu

I am pleased to announce the appointment of Shonna Fulford ’09 as director of admissions, effective June 13, 2022. In this role, Shonna will drive new strategic initiatives like the Augsburg Applies 2U direct admission program that will build deeper connections with prospective undergraduate students and their families. Shonna will lead student-centered systems change and recruitment efforts to ensure sustainable first-year and transfer student enrollments.

Shonna brings 13 years of higher education enrollment and admissions experience to this new leadership position, 10 of them at Augsburg. She played a key role in enrolling three of the largest classes in Augsburg’s history in recent years as associate director of admissions and lead supervisor of the first-year recruitment team. A dynamic, motivating presence and inspiring public speaker, she is a member of the National Association for College Admissions Counseling, the Minnesota Association for College Admissions Counseling, and the Minnesota Association for Counselors of Color.

Associate Director of Admissions Paul Kienberger will also take on an expanded role in a re-envisioned division leadership structure. Working closely with Shonna, he will co-manage the division’s human and analytical resources with a focus on training, capacity building, implementing strategic initiatives, and use of predictive analytics.

With more than two decades of combined experience at Augsburg, Paul and Shonna bring the knowledge, experience, and commitment needed to lead inclusive change with strategic partners both on and off campus. Their leadership will advance the vision of the Strategic Enrollment Management division to be a belonging organization that builds deeper relations, changes systems, and dismantles the tenets of white supremacy and oppression in higher education enrollment management.

Congratulations to Juli Kramer

submitted by jendra@augsburg.edu

After many years of service to the Luther Seminary community, Juli Kramer will retire from her role as project and production manager on the shared services marketing team that serves both Luther and Augsburg University effective June 30, the end of the seminary’s fiscal year. I’m excited to share, however, that Juli will still be an active part of the Luther community. She has accepted a part-time role as the managing editor for Word & World beginning July 1.

Juli has been a wonderful and thoughtful colleague, and we will always be grateful for her dedication, commitment, and hard work. I hope you’ll join me in congratulating her on her exciting news! You can leave a note for her using the Google Form below, and I will compile the responses for her on her last day.

Reminder: Coming Login Changes to Inside Augsburg for Employees the Week of June 6, 2022

submitted by krajewsk@augsburg.edu

This is a reminder that the use of Duo Mobile will be expanding to Inside Augsburg for current faculty and staff the week of June 6th. The requirement will be staggered throughout the week to different groups of people.

We recommend you register your Duo Mobile app as soon as possible to prevent interruption to online services like gmail or moodle.

1. Install Duo Mobile from your phone’s app store.
2. On your laptop/computer, visit https://duo.augsburg.edu and click on Enrollment and Device Management to start the enrollment process. Follow the instructions on the page.
3. The instructions will help you register your Duo Mobile app.

Duo Mobile is a tool to provide multi-factor authentication to online logins. These days phishing attacks (when someone tricks you into sharing your password) are the main way ransomware and data breaches start at organizations. These attacks can cost organizations hundreds of thousands of dollars to millions of dollars to clean up. And organizations can be offline for days during the cleanup.

Multi-factor authentication provides you additional protection beyond your password. At least once a week you will need to approve your Inside Augsburg login using the Duo Mobile app.

The LFCs are ready to help people get set up. https://sites.augsburg.edu/it/get-help/faculty-and-staff-support-lfcs/

Forum Webinar: Why the Workplace is the Perfect Place to Discuss the Undiscussables, Race and Racism

submitted by gocmen@augsburg.edu

When: June 16, 2022 11:00 am – 12:00 pm CT
Level: Intermediate
Presenters: Margaret Greenberg, The Business of Race, LLC  |  Gina Greenlee, The Business of Race, LLC
Cost: Free
Registration: https://forumworkplaceinclusion.org/webinars/what-is-your-x-why-the-workplace-is-the-perfect-place-to-discuss-the-undiscussables-race-racism/

Talking about race and racism at work historically has been taboo. However, we can’t solve what we don’t talk about. It’s time for a new approach.
For nearly 60 years, workplaces have focused on diversity specific to gender and many historically underrepresented groups. Much of that focus has been on education, training, and awareness building at the individual level. What organizations haven’t devoted equal attention to is RACIAL diversity and how to change the SYSTEM of work—business policies and practices—to create and sustain a racially diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace.
While no single societal sector can disrupt the status quo on its own, innovative businesses and courageous leaders can lead the way. No matter your racial identity, no matter your role or level in your organization, you can do SOMETHING. We don’t profess to know what that “something” is for you but in this session, you will learn two actionable tools to uncover it.

Learning Outcomes
Explore racial diversity through both an asset and business lens
Create a business case for racial diversity that will engage your multiple stakeholder groups
Facilitate strategy sessions using the SOAR (strengths, opportunities, aspirations, + results) framework
