Heads Up: I-94 Construction Begins This Fall

submitted by farrisr@augsburg.edu

Starting in October 2024, MnDOT will begin bridge preservation and maintenance work on five bridges along I-94 in Minneapolis. Construction is expected to last through November 2025.

The project area includes:

– I-94 bridge (Dartmouth Bridge) that spans the Mississippi River
– Riverside Ave bridge over I-94
– I-94 over Cedar Ave
– I-94 over the Light Rail Transit (Blue Line)
– I-94 over Hwy 55/Hiawatha Ave

Project fact sheet: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z_2zwssvyVUmx1TyFxc8DwvEsbnoERRt/view?usp=drive_link

In fall 2024, motorists can expect overnight and some daytime lane closures on I-94 between downtown Minneapolis and the Franklin Ave bridge over I-94 to construct crossovers that will allow crews to shift traffic the following year.

During construction in 2025, motorists can expect I-94 to be reduced to two lanes in each direction between Hwy 55/Hiawatha Ave and the Franklin Ave bridge over I-94. Crews will also need to temporarily close ramps along I-94 at Huron Blvd, Riverside Ave, Cedar Ave, and 6th St and 7th St near downtown Minneapolis.

Use of Murphy Square This Fall

submitted by rjohn@augsburg.edu

The Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board will be wrapping up its Murphy Square renovation work next week. Park Board staff will review the park next week to determine where fencing will need to remain up and where they determine to take it down.

For this fall, here are the guidelines for use of the park:
1) ONLY use the paths and the areas where the grass is fully growing/areas that were not disturbed by project work.
2) Stay away from all seeded areas.
3) Leave all fencing in place.

The seeded areas are expected to grow new grass beginning in the spring. The Park Board anticipates formally issuing use permits for the park at that time.

submitted by ahmedu@augsburg.edu

The Interfaith Institute, Religion and Philosophy Department, and Center for Teaching and Learning received a grant from the Interfaith America and John Templeton Foundations to implement a year-long faculty cohort focused on a campus wide effort on teaching religious diversity and pluralism. We invite full-time Augsburg University faculty to apply for the fellowship program. Limited fellowships are available and fellows will receive a stipend of $500.00. We will be leading workshops on religious pluralism, teaching religious diversity, and understanding how to engage worldview diversity in the classroom and beyond. If you’re not familiar with teaching religious and worldview diversity, this cohort is a wonderful opportunity to learn more and build your skills and familiarity with these topics. We will work with you to integrate content and skills in your context and academic discipline.

Sessions will include presentations on topics and the opportunity to workshop ideas with other cohort members. Some brief pre-reading will be required.
