Use of Murphy Square This Fall

submitted by rjohn@augsburg.edu

The Minneapolis Parks and Recreation Board will be wrapping up its Murphy Square renovation work next week. Park Board staff will review the park next week to determine where fencing will need to remain up and where they determine to take it down.

For this fall, here are the guidelines for use of the park:
1) ONLY use the paths and the areas where the grass is fully growing/areas that were not disturbed by project work.
2) Stay away from all seeded areas.
3) Leave all fencing in place.

The seeded areas are expected to grow new grass beginning in the spring. The Park Board anticipates formally issuing use permits for the park at that time.

The installation work, originally scheduled for today and tomorrow, will occur later this week. During installation, the work area will be taped off, and the rest of the Dining Commons will be usable during this time.

Full-Time Faculty: Apply for an Advancing Religious Pluralism Fellowship – Due September 20

submitted by ahmedu@augsburg.edu

The Interfaith Institute, Religion and Philosophy Department, and Center for Teaching and Learning received a grant from the Interfaith America and John Templeton Foundations to implement a year-long faculty cohort focused on a campus wide effort on teaching religious diversity and pluralism. We invite full-time Augsburg University faculty to apply for the fellowship program. Limited fellowships are available and fellows will receive a stipend of $500.00. Faculty from any department are encouraged to apply.

The goals of the yearlong fellowship are to develop new material for courses, new approaches to teaching, and to learn from other faculty members in the cohort. We will be leading workshops on religious pluralism, teaching religious diversity, and understanding how to engage worldview diversity in the classroom and beyond. If you’re not familiar with teaching religious and worldview diversity, this cohort is a wonderful opportunity to learn more and build your skills and familiarity with these topics. We will work with you to integrate content and skills in your context and academic discipline.

Sessions will include presentations on topics and the opportunity to workshop ideas with other cohort members. Some brief pre-reading will be required.

The cohort will meet via Zoom:
Thursday Oct. 10th 3:30-5:30
Thursday Nov. 7th 3:30-5:30
Thursday Feb. 6th 3:30-5:30
Thursday Feb. 20th 3:30-5:30

submitted by crombie@augsburg.edu

Augsburg’s TRIO McNair Scholars Program is recruiting students for Fall 2024 admission. Eligible applicants will be at Junior status by the end of Spring 2025 and available to conduct full-time research Summer 2025. Students from all majors are welcome to apply, though preference is given to applicants that are interested in pursuing a doctoral (Ph.D.) degree. Students will acquire the research skills necessary to succeed in graduate school through a paid research internship ($6000) with an Augsburg faculty member during Summer of 2025.

The McNair Scholars Program is federally-funded by the U.S. Department of Education. Therefore, to be eligible, applicants must be first-generation (neither parent graduated from a four-year college or university) AND low-income AND/OR may be persons from groups underrepresented in graduate education. Event Planning Request Form and Resources

submitted by obeys@augsburg.edu

University Events has been working hard to launch a new request form for all events and meeting reservations. So that all requests can be saved in the same place, it is essential that faculty and staff use this form to submit all requests regardless of whether your event is basic or more complicated. Please note that if your event requires any special set up, catering, AV requests, etc. we require at least 15 business days (but more time is strongly recommended to ensure your event is a success). The new form, as well as all resources for planning your event, can be found at https://sites.augsburg.edu/events/

Student groups and organizations should submit event requests through Auggie Life.

If you have trouble submitting the form, please screenshot the issue and email it to events@augsburg.edu so that we can look into fixing the issue.
