With less time spent reviewing applications, counselors will have more capacity to build relationships, learn about students’ experiences and goals, and personalize the admissions process. Students will face fewer barriers, allowing them to focus on finding the school where they authentically belong.

We want to emphasize that this change will not make Augsburg less selective. Students who receive direct admission would also have been admitted under our previous application process. What’s changing is our ability to reach students who might have thought college was out of reach. Instead of presenting the application process as a hurdle, we’ll start from a place of welcome.

Augsburg Applies 2U is the next step in a transformative process that has been underway for several years. Research shows that complex admissions processes are less equitable. Recent changes to simplify our application—including test-free admissions, short answer essays, and optional letter of recommendation—have accompanied Augsburg’s largest and most diverse first-year classes in history.

We are grateful for discussions and collaborations with so many campus partners and stakeholders as we worked to develop this new equity-minded model in earnest over the past year. Admissions will be meeting with several departments to provide more details in the upcoming weeks. Catherina Kipper, URGO’s Prehealth Professions Specialist, will be returning to the University of MN, having accepted a position as an Assistant Director of Advising in the College of Liberal Arts. In the seven plus years that Catherina worked at Augsburg she established a stellar prehealth science advising program and assisted countless students and alums with their applications and interviews to various prehealth science programs. She also served as the advisor to the newly created and active Pre-Dentistry and Pre-PA clubs.

Students sought Catherina out because she provided honest and thorough advice about how to be a competitive prehealth applicant. She is particularly gifted as a writing coach, painstakingly reading multiple drafts of statements and secondary applications, always helping students find their own voices. Because of her commitment and knowledge, more Augsburg students and alums gained admissions to prehealth programs and more of them had multiple offers.

The Humanities Connections program seeks to expand the role of the humanities in undergraduate education at two- and four-year institutions. Awards support innovative curricular approaches that foster partnerships among humanities faculty and their counterparts in the social and natural sciences and in pre-service or professional programs (such as business, engineering, health sciences, law, computer science, and other technology-driven fields), in order to encourage and develop new integrative learning opportunities for students.

Maximum award amount: Up to $35,000 for Planning; up to $150,000 for Implementation

826 MPLS, located in the Seward neighborhood just a 10 minute walk from Augsburg, is looking for volunteers for summer programs. Their mission “amplifies the voices, stories, and power of K-12 BIPOC students through writing, publishing, and leadership programs.” This summer program begins on July 13th. Students visit outdoor locations to learn about the natural environment and sustainability, writing about what they learn, their thoughts and experiences.

Volunteer shifts are between two and four hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. You can get in touch with proud Augsburg alum, Aminah Hussein, for more information: aminah@826msp.org

My name is Asma Noor. I am a student researcher at Augsburg University, and I am currently seeking Black individuals who are comfortable sharing their attitudes on help-seeking and mental health to participate in a psychology research study.

I am interested in hearing the personal experiences from your community. The study involves a 60-minute one-on-one audio Zoom or in-person (if comfortable) interview. This project has been approved by Augsburg University’s Institutional Review Board (IRB-#2022-20-03).

You are eligible to participate if you are between
1. 18-29 years old,
2. identify as Black American,
3. have lived in Minnesota for at least the past two years.

This study is confidential and completely voluntary. You may choose to withdraw from the study at any time.
