Augsburg University Campus Ministry invites you to join us on Tuesday, March 22, at 10:00 am as Augsburg University welcomes Pastors Ingrid Rasmussen and Angela Khabeb for the sixth annual Fosdick Lecture in Preaching.
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, located just off of Lake Street in the 3rd Precinct, found itself at the heart of the explosive response to the brutal killing of George Floyd and the centuries of trauma that preceded his death. During the months that followed the uprising, the church responded by distributing donated food, diapers, toiletries, plywood for boarding up broken windows, cleaning supplies, and tools to the community. This remained a primary part of Holy Trinity’s work throughout the summer and fall of 2020. Pastors Rasmussen and Khabeb will share their insights on preaching during this time of crisis and reflect on how these experiences continue to shape their understanding of theology and ministry.

in the Riverside Room, next to the Cafeteria in Christensen Center
The semester program in Southern Africa is particularly great for students with a major, minor, or strong interest in history, political science, religion, CRES, or for those who wish to do an internship in a related field. It is available in both Fall and Spring semesters. Fall 2022 participants will get free airfare!
Students learn about historical and present-day challenges in creating national identity, an inclusive multi-party democracy, and a model for development. Studying Namibia and South Africa’s model and approach to such issues provides a useful context for understanding globalization and nation-building struggles throughout the world. Gain hands-on work experience in a development agency through an academic internship for credit. Earn additional credit in Political Science, Religion, Interdisciplinary Studies, or History, as well as Augsburg Experience.
CGEE in Southern Africa is one of the more affordable study abroad options for Auggies – use all of your financial aid, receive an additional automatic $1500 travel grant, and apply for additional study-abroad scholarships to add on.
Applications for the Fall semester are due April 1. Get program details, course lists, and lots more information at the link below.

“Perspectives on the Opioid Crisis in the East African Community: Part 2”

The East African community in the Twin Cities is experiencing a crisis of opioid addiction touching the lives of youth, young adults, and their families in our community. Two community leaders will share their perspectives and how they have responded to the crisis.
Mimi Sahlu – Mimi Sahlu is a small business owner. She is a community leader who helps others find resources. She is an activist and voice for East African women.
Abdirahman Mukhtar – Abdirahman Mukhtar worked with the Confederation of Somali Communities in Minnesota, as a youth diversion coordinator and as the youth program manager at the Brian Coyle Center of Pillsbury United Communities, a hub for Somali immigrants. He strives to make a human connection with youth who are homeless, often alienated from their own community. He is the Founder and Executive Director of Daryeel Youth. DARYEEL (which means “care” in Somali) is a volunteer-based Street Outreach effort to support East African youth.

Do you love watching television and have ever wondered how the creators wrote their pilot for that hit TV show you love to watch? Or, are you a writer in a different medium and have always wanted to try your hand at writing for television?
Grow your writing skills this summer with the course PWC 320 “Writing for Television”. This intensive course will be modeled on a professional writer’s room and as such all students will be required to actively participate. Students will be expected to participate in the development and breaking of story while learning to pitch ideas, create outlines, and reading and providing feedback on your colleagues’ work. Each of these steps will be instrumental in aiding you with creating your own pilot!

Augsburg University Campus Ministry invites you to join us on Tuesday, March 22, at 10:00 am as Augsburg University welcomes Pastors Ingrid Rasmussen and Angela Khabeb for the sixth annual Fosdick Lecture in Preaching.
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, located just off of Lake Street in the 3rd Precinct, found itself at the heart of the explosive response to the brutal killing of George Floyd and the centuries of trauma that preceded his death. During the months that followed the uprising, the church responded by distributing donated food, diapers, toiletries, plywood for boarding up broken windows, cleaning supplies, and tools to the community. This remained a primary part of Holy Trinity’s work throughout the summer and fall of 2020. Pastors Rasmussen and Khabeb will share their insights on preaching during this time of crisis and reflect on how these experiences continue to shape their understanding of theology and ministry.

The share is a good amount of produce for two people but can easily be shared
between 3-4 people. Boxes are very seasonal, emphasizing a variety of produce when
it’s at its peak. TGA’s weekly member newsletter provides loads of great recipe ideas
and storage tips, along with information about the farmers who grew the food.

“Perspectives on the Opioid Crisis in the East African Community: Part 2”

The East African community in the Twin Cities is experiencing a crisis of opioid addiction touching the lives of youth, young adults, and their families in our community. Two community leaders will share their perspectives and how they have responded to the crisis.
Mimi Sahlu – Mimi Sahlu is a small business owner. She is a community leader who helps others find resources. She is an activist and voice for East African women.
Abdirahman Mukhtar – Abdirahman Mukhtar worked with the Confederation of Somali Communities in Minnesota, as a youth diversion coordinator and as the youth program manager at the Brian Coyle Center of Pillsbury United Communities, a hub for Somali immigrants. He strives to make a human connection with youth who are homeless, often alienated from their own community. He is the Founder and Executive Director of Daryeel Youth. DARYEEL (which means “care” in Somali) is a volunteer-based Street Outreach effort to support East African youth.

A CSA farm-share dropsite is coming to Augsburg!!
Get 18-weeks of locally grown produce at its peak in mid-June through mid-October!
The share is a good amount of produce for two people but can easily be shared
between 3-4 people. Boxes are very seasonal, emphasizing a variety of produce when
it’s at its peak. TGA’s weekly member newsletter provides loads of great recipe ideas
and storage tips, along with information about the farmers who grew the food.

“Perspectives on the Opioid Crisis in the East African Community: Part 2”
March 23, 2022 at 4:00 pm Central Time on Zoom
The East African community in the Twin Cities is experiencing a crisis of opioid addiction touching the lives of youth, young adults, and their families in our community. Two community leaders will share their perspectives and how they have responded to the crisis.
Mimi Sahlu – Mimi Sahlu is a small business owner. She is a community leader who helps others find resources. She is an activist and voice for East African women.
Abdirahman Mukhtar – Abdirahman Mukhtar worked with the Confederation of Somali Communities in Minnesota, as a youth diversion coordinator and as the youth program manager at the Brian Coyle Center of Pillsbury United Communities, a hub for Somali immigrants. He strives to make a human connection with youth who are homeless, often alienated from their own community. He is currently the Community Outreach, Equity & Inclusion Coordinator at the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board.
