All Saints Commemoration

We will hold an All Saints service in chapel November 5 at 10:40 am. The custom of commemorating all of the saints of the church on a single day goes back at least to the third century. At this service we praise God for the saints who’ve gone before us, especially honoring ones who have been personally significant in our faith. We’ll also remember those who have died, especially in this past year. We celebrate and remember through song and prayer. Please submit names you would like included in the service to the campus ministry office by emailing Janice Dames at dames@augsburg.edu.

Tickets for the Theater Department’s production of “White” by James Ijames, directed by Beliza Torres Narváez, are officially on sale!

Performances will be held on October 28th-30th at 7pm in the Foss Center!

All guests will be required to provide proof of vaccination and a photo ID in order to come to the performance. Along with this, all patrons must wear a mask inside all Augsburg buildings. Additionally, we will not be accepting late seating, so make sure to arrive at least 20 minutes before the performance.

AGB Search firm has been engaged to assist with the provost search. Representatives from AGB Search are inviting faculty to participate in listening sessions. Listening sessions will be offered, via Zoom, on Mon. Nov. 1, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m. and Thur. Nov. 4, 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.

Given the Zoom format, AGB Search has asked that each session be limited to 25 participants. If the response to the sessions warrants, a third session will be added. Please watch Amail for further updates.

City Issues Forum with Minneapolis City Council President – TODAY

Join the Sabo Center and the LEAD Fellows program for a forum featuring Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender. On Tuesday, October 26th, 6pm-7:45pm in Hagfors 150A. We will be focusing on the city questions surrounding public safety and rent stabilization that will show up on the ballot in the municipal elections in November.

In this forum, students will have the opportunity to engage with Council Member Bender through asking questions and sharing stories, and we will hear from the Council President on the issues our city is facing.

This is a hybrid event- we will be in-person and live-streaming online.

Join Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC) for a Professional Development Lab that will give you the chance to explore issues of religious identity and diversity at work, develop your interfaith skillset, and create an action plan for how you will engage religious and secular identity in your workplace.

Learning Outcomes
Learn why engaging religious diversity matters in the workplace
Identify concrete skills to engage religious diversity and enhance workplace culture
Create a customized action plan for how to engage religious diversity productively in your workplace

All Saints Commemoration

We will hold an All Saints service in chapel November 5 at 10:40 am. The custom of commemorating all of the saints of the church on a single day goes back at least to the third century. At this service we praise God for the saints who’ve gone before us, especially honoring ones who have been personally significant in our faith. We’ll also remember those who have died, especially in this past year. We celebrate and remember through song and prayer. Please submit names you would like included in the service to the campus ministry office by emailing Janice Dames at dames@augsburg.edu.

FedEx Ground will be on campus on Wednesday, October 20th from 10:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Christensen Center sharing information about tuition benefits available for any part-time or full-time employees. Starting day 1, employees are eligible for $5,250 in tuition assistance per calendar year. You can be in any program, only have to be employed while receiving benefits, and there are a wide variety of schedules available. Start working for FedEx Ground by November 15th to reduce your tuition for this semester by $5,250.

Americans encounter more religious diversity at work than in any other sphere of life, yet religion is too often left out of the diversity conversation. Many of us are uncomfortable talking about religion at work because we are afraid of offending our colleagues or wading into uncertain legal territory, but engaging religious diversity can lead to stronger team culture and better relationships with clients and consumers. Join Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC) for a Professional Development Lab that will give you the chance to explore issues of religious identity and diversity at work, develop your interfaith skillset, and create an action plan for how you will engage religious and secular identity in your workplace.

Interfaith Ally Workshops

The Interfaith Ally Training will be offered twice in Fall 2021, once online and once in person. This workshop provides participants with the opportunity to learn about a wide range of faiths and ethical traditions including Native Spirituality, Judaism, Islam, Hybrid, Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism and Atheism. Participants will hear the stories of community members from a variety of traditions and have the opportunity to learn through case studies. This workshop qualifies as an equity/inclusion event to help maintain good standing in the Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program. The Interfaith Ally Workshop is a program of Interfaith at Augsburg and Campus Ministry.

She will discuss topics like housing options, classes, application process, as well as host open Q&A time.

Studying at an Exchange Program university is a great chance for Auggies to take classes (in English) and experience university life abroad.

You can use all your financial aid, and you will also receive an automatic $1,000 Travel Grant for a semester at an exchange program.

Ready to Run Minnesota, which is part of a national network of nonpartisan campaign training programs designed to encourage women to run for office and to encourage all of us to support increased representation of women in politics. This year, there will be a series of monthly (October-February) virtual training sessions over the lunch hour on Fridays. You will learn how to fundraise, receive media training, and gain other important skills…all for free.
The first event is with a national speaker, Rebecca Sive, at noon on October 8. Everyone is welcome to join the free sessions on Fridays, so please use the Zoom link to sign up.

Come celebrate Lauren Causey’s new career opportunity during an on-campus farewell event planned for today, October 7, from 2:00-3:00 pm in the quad (OGC 100 if inclement weather).

We want to celebrate Lauren Causey’s new career opportunity as the Executive Director of the Office of Sponsored Research and Projects at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California. As the Director of Augsburg’s Office of Sponsored Programs, Lauren led our campus work in all things grant-related. In the process she also became a Certified Research Administrator. Those of us who have worked closely with Lauren in grant preparation and management know her incredible capacity to write compelling narratives around Augsburg’s mission and her amazing attention to detail. Her talents and steadfast professionalism, patience, and grace created the foundation for numerous grants over the past 3 years,

We thank Lauren for her dedication to our campus and the true impact her work had in supporting our students and faculty since joining the Augsburg staff in 2018. We wish Lauren well in her new endeavors and know that she will always be a part of our Augsburg family.

Americans encounter more religious diversity at work than in any other sphere of life, yet religion is too often left out of the diversity conversation. Many of us are uncomfortable talking about religion at work because we are afraid of offending our colleagues or wading into uncertain legal territory, but engaging religious diversity can lead to stronger team culture and better relationships with clients and consumers. Join Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC) for a Professional Development Lab that will give you the chance to explore issues of religious identity and diversity at work, develop your interfaith skillset, and create an action plan for how you will engage religious and secular identity in your workplace.

About The Forum’s Professional Development Labs Professional Development Labs (PDLs) are half-day interactive learning experiences intended to develop professional competencies that support leaders in reaching the next level in their DEI leadership. Today representatives from two organizations which offer year-long service experiences will be tabling in Christensen Center from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm (except during chapel time).

Mae Helen Jackson is Young Adult Outreach and Placement Manager for Young Adult Ministries with the ELCA. She is in charge of recruitment for the Young Adults in Global Mission (YAGM) program as well as other Young Adult Ministries programs within the larger church expression. The ELCA Young Adults in Global Mission program invites ELCA young adults ages 21-29 into a transformative, year-long journey in international service. As they offer themselves in service, ELCA young adults are shaped by the witness of our global neighbors. They share in the journeys of companion churches and organizations in one of ten countries around the world.

Also tabling is Ciara Kowalcyzk from Urban Servant Corps. Ciara will share about her experience as a full time volunteer at GrowHaus, a nonprofit indoor farm in North Denver dedicated to food production, food education, food distribution, and economic opportunity in chapel today. During her year of service, Ciara Kowalczyk lived in intentional community with others who were serving people experiencing homelessness, teaching at a school for pregnant and parenting teens, offering nutritional food access and other organizations committed to social justice and racial equity.
