New Forum Webinar, Using Innovative Simulation Strategies to Dismantle Systemic Racism

submitted by gocmen@augsburg.edu

When: August 19, 2021 11:00 am – 12:00 pm CST
Presenters: Samreen Vora, Children’s Minnesota  |  Brittany Dahlen, Children’s Minnesota
Cost: Free

Register at: https://forumworkplaceinclusion.org/webinars/using-innovative-simulation-strategies-to-dismantle-systemic-racism/

Many organizations are flocking to implement implicit bias training and other activities to bring to light the structural racism present in our organizations. Although implicit bias training is the first step in creating awareness, it is important to get to the next step of behavior change. Implementation of bias mitigation strategies can be challenging to achieve. Simulation-Based Training (SBT) can be the bridge between creating awareness and moving to action.
This session will delve into SBT and opportunities for partnering with equity and inclusion training to promote health equity. The webinar will discuss how deliberate practice of both recognition of bias and implementation of strategies to mitigate bias can be integrated into implicit bias training. Real examples of the partnership between SBT and equity and inclusion training will be provided and participants will have an opportunity to begin developing facilitation skills for leading SBT deliberate practice conversations

Learning Outcomes
Describe the simulation strategies applicable to promoting health equity
Integrate implicit bias mitigation strategies into simulations
Apply equity and inclusion facilitation skills to simulation facilitation

Taking Back Pride 2021 (June 27, 2021)

submitted by rodriguc@augsburg.edu

(Twin Cities Coalition for Justice 4 Jamar):
We are taking back pride again!
Why we march.
Stonewall was an uprising against police brutality. Since the lynching and murder of George Floyd, Minneapolis has become ground zero in the fight against police murder, including an uprising that shook every major city in this country. Queer and trans community members continue to be targets of ongoing police violence, so the fight against police terror is our fight. This march is explicitly anti-cop and anti-corporate. We are Black-led, trans-led and Left-led.
In that spirit, the front of march and the post-march stage will be reserved for our most-impacted community members and organizations that support the demands of the movement. This also applies to the rest of the protest at every level. (See Facebook Event for more Information)

Vote on Outdoor Movie Night

submitted by riddle@augsburg.edu

The Alumni Office is looking for input on an idea for an on-campus event this summer. Would you attend an outdoor movie night? We could show movies on big screens on the lawn south of the Hagfors Center. Attendees would be invited to bring lawn chairs, blankets to sit on, and their own snacks. It would be a smoke and alcohol-free event.

With this survey we are testing the overall level of interest in this idea. And we are looking for input on what movie pairings might be most popular. Let us know! Thank you for your help.

Tomorrow, Forum Event – Religion in the Workplace: Interfaith Skills to Engage Difference

submitted by gocmen@augsburg.edu

When: May 6, 2021 11:00 am – 12:30 pm CST
Where: Online/Video Conference
Cost: $30 Suggested Donation
Level: Intermediate
Track: Critical Employment Practices
Presenters: Megan Hughes Johnson, Interfaith Youth Core  |  Jenan Mohajir, Interfaith Youth Core

Religious diversity is an incredibly important part of American public life. Controversies regarding religion and business are regularly in both the press and the courts and more Americans say that they encounter religious diversity at work than in any other sphere of their life (PRRI, 2019). However, religion is often left out of the corporate diversity conversation. Diverse identities and perspectives on a team can lead to greater outcomes or can lead to misunderstanding and conflict. It is only when diverse identities are engaged, and team members have opportunities to intentionally learn about one another, that the potential strength of workplace diversity is unlocked. Developing a company culture that proactively engages religious diversity can open doors to greater employee productivity, enhanced client satisfaction, and even new business prospects. Join IFYC to explore why engaging religion matters in the workplace, workshop challenging scenarios, and identify your interfaith skillset.

Learning Outcomes
Learn why engaging religious diversity matters in the workplace
Understand and apply interfaith frameworks to common tensions in the workplace related to religious identity and diversity
Identify concrete skills to engage religious diversity and enhance workplace culture

Forum Event – Religion in the Workplace: Interfaith Skills to Engage Difference

submitted by gocmen@augsburg.edu

Graduating? Looking for a Job? Attend the Staffing Agency Job Fair

submitted by tilton@augsburg.edu

Are you graduating this Spring, Summer or in December 2021?

Are you seeking a full-time entry level job and feeling anxious about the job search? You are not alone, it is normal to feel overwhelmed. The Strommen Career & Internship Center invites you to attend a small virtual Staffing Agency Fair powered by Handshake this Friday, April 30th.

Staffing Agencies participating in our fair specialize in working with students who have been out of college for three years or less. They specialize in recruiting and staffing for a single industry or location. These agencies are able to better understand the qualifications that candidates possess to help match them with an organization/position that’s a good fit for them. For new grads working with a staffing agency is a great way to strengthen your resume. In many cases the only way to get hired by larger employers is when you go through a staffing agency.

This fair is an opportunity for you to learn how staffing agencies can help YOU! There is NO fee paid by the candidate, so what do you have to lose?

Register for a group session where you will learn about the company and their process for helping recent grads find work or schedule 1:1 session with a representative to learn more about how they can assist you in your entry-level job search!

If you have questions, please email careers@augsburg.edu
