2022-2023 Multicultural Life Scholarship Application is closing TODAY! This is a great opportunity for underrepresented undergraduate students in the Augsburg Day Program. Those who are eligible can be awarded between 2,500-5,000 annual, renewable awards.

If you are a current scholarship recipient and want to renew your award make sure to fill the application!

These scholarships include: ASIA Scholarship, Bonnie Wallace American Indian Scholarship, HOLA Scholarship, LQBTQIA+ Student Services Scholarship, M. Anita Gay Hawthorne Scholarship, and Scholastic Connection Scholarship.

Explore meanings and expressions of music, health, illness, and healing transculturally in the context of South Africa. The focus of this course is on developing an understanding of individuals, families, groups and communities with diverse cultural backgrounds and the use of music in community and for healing within their culture.

MUSIC THERAPY IN SOUTH AFRICA

Travel July 10-20, 2022

Choose one course:

• MUS 374 or 474: Music Therapy Practicum (1 credit),

We have multiple summer opportunities available for students.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM
The URGO Summer Research Program is an 11-week, on-campus program (May 12th – July 27th) where students are funded to conduct research with a faculty mentor. Students receive support throughout the research process from their faculty mentor, a Speaker Series, and weekly seminars with fellow researchers. URGO provides full-time summer researchers (400 hours) with a $6,000 stipend and housing discount while half-time researchers (200 hours) receive a $3,000 stipend and a housing discount.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS
URGO also provides funding for students to work for a professor as a research assistant on an ongoing research project. This is a 100-hour commitment over the course of the summer and comes with a $1,500 stipend. This is an excellent opportunity to try out research for the first time or focus on a specific aspect of a research project.

Phase 1 of the applications are due February 16th at 11:59 PM, so start talking with your faculty members to learn about what research is going on in your department!

Augsburg’s annual Zyzzogeton Research Symposium showcases the work of over 80 undergraduate researchers in all academic disciplines and will take place on Tuesday, April 12, 2022. Students who have conducted research over the course of the last year and would like to present a poster should register at the URGO website (www.augsburg.edu/urgo) by March 1 (a mentor-approved abstract is required to register).

URGO has a limited amount of funds this year to support students presenting their research at conferences.

URGO offers up to $850 in travel funding for Augsburg undergraduates who have been accepted to present research at a professional conference. These funds can mitigate the high costs of travel such as airfare and lodging, and can contribute to students’ professionalization.

The application is available at the URGO website (www.augsburg.edu/urgo) at the “conference travel” page. Grants are awarded on a rolling basis, so students are encouraged to work with their research mentor to submit a travel application as soon as possible after receiving acceptance to a conference. The URGO Advisory Committee meets bi-monthly to make decisions on applications.

Apply to be in one of Augsburg’s three Public Leadership Scholar Programs: Christensen Scholars, Interfaith Scholars, or Sabo Scholars.
In these programs, you will have the opportunity to participate in a yearlong academic seminar with a cohort of your peers. You will contribute to public leadership on campus and in the wider community in faith-based non-profits, through interfaith engagement, or civic life. You will also be able to earn 4 upper division semester credits in the Religion or Political Science and receive at least a $2,000 scholarship.

We have hosted the Minnesota Debate & Advocacy Workshop (MDAW) at Augsburg University for more than a decade. Last year, camps were held virtually. We’re back for 2022!

We are excited to invite your child to speech & debate camp at MDAW this summer- now with in-person and virtual options!

Join us for deep learning, skill-building, fun, and community this summer. Both in-person and virtual options are available. In-person camp takes place at Augsburg University’s campus in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

BE A VOLUNTEER, IN-PERSON OR VIRTUALLY: JUDGE MIDDLE SCHOOL DEBATES

The Minnesota Urban Debate League is a program of Augsburg University that provides academic competitive debate programming to middle and high school students in the Twin Cities.

Our new debate season begins very soon! Middle school debate tournaments will happen from January-March, and we need your help to make it happen!

Judges observe debate rounds, pick a winner, and provide feedback to both teams. No experience needed- we’ll train you! We’re looking for all people who are interested in supporting students as they improve their argumentation and public speaking skills.

Summer PAID Internships -Apply by 2/28/2022

Metropolitan Council has a number of summer internships listed in Handshake and on their webpage at https://metrocouncil.org/Employment/Internships.aspx.

Their internship program offers a wide variety of opportunities to qualifying interns. All majors welcome. The program is designed to educate and mentor interns by providing professional on-the-job training and development. Participants of our internship program receive an hourly salary! Most interns work full-time during the summer, and some opportunities continue part-time through the school year.

Eligibility
Must be enrolled in a degree-seeking program (associate’s or bachelor’s or master’s) or be a recent graduate (within 12 months from posting date) from a degree program (associate’s or bachelor’s or master’s).

Must be a citizen or national of the United States; a lawful, permanent resident; or have authorization to work in the United States. (Documentation to verify employment eligibility will be required at the time of employment.)

Summer internships
Participants receive an hourly salary. Most interns work full-time during the summer, and some opportunities continue part-time through the school year.

Program dates
The 12-week programs begin each summer in late May and end in mid-August.

In these programs, you will have the opportunity to participate in a yearlong academic seminar with a cohort of your peers. URGO has a limited amount of funds this year to support students presenting their research at conferences.

URGO offers up to $850 in travel funding for Augsburg undergraduates who have been accepted to present research at a professional conference. These funds can mitigate the high costs of travel such as airfare and lodging, and can contribute to students’ professionalization.

The application is available at the URGO website (www.augsburg.edu/urgo) at the “conference travel” page. Grants are awarded on a rolling basis, so students are encouraged to work with their research mentor to submit a travel application as soon as possible after receiving acceptance to a conference. The URGO Advisory Committee meets bi-monthly to make decisions on applications.

The URGO Summer Research Program is an 11-week, on-campus program (May 12th – July 27th) where students are funded to conduct research with a faculty mentor. Students receive support throughout the research process from their faculty mentor, a Speaker Series, and weekly seminars with fellow researchers. URGO provides full-time summer researchers (400 hours) with a $6,000 stipend and housing discount while half-time researchers (200 hours) receive a $3,000 stipend and a housing discount.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS
URGO also provides funding for students to work for a professor as a research assistant on an ongoing research project. This is a 100-hour commitment over the course of the summer and comes with a $1,500 stipend. The NASA Space Grant scholarship program supports the advancement of academically focused undergraduates seeking professional careers in the natural sciences, especially space physics & engineering, mathematics, and science/mathematics education.

This competitive program awards up to 6 scholarships for Spring 2022 (totaling $8000), in the following areas:
Emerging Scholarship (Sophomore-Senior): Scholarships of $1000 to encourage students whose course of study shows progress in meeting the criteria of this scholarship program.

Enhanced Scholarship (Sophomore-Senior): Scholarships of $2000 to support students who have shown considerable progress in meeting the criteria of this scholarship program.

The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library announced the finalists for the Minnesota Book Award on January 29, 2022. Howling Bird Press nonfiction prize winning title SELF, DIVIDED by John Medeiros was named one of four finalists in the category of memoir and creative nonfiction.

The winner will be announced at the Thirty-Fourth Annual Minnesota Book Awards on April 26, 7:00 p.m., in Saint Paul at the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts.

SELF, DIVIDED was selected from a national contest run by Howling Bird Press, and was edited, and published by student editors enrolled in Publishing I & II, the yearlong English course offered by the MFA Program in Creative Writing at Augsburg University, taught by Jim Cihlar.

In 1995 John Medeiros and his identical twin brother participated in a gene therapy study in which the HIV-positive twin was infused with billions of genes from the HIV-negative twin. This memoir details, from an individual perspective, how the world responded (and didn’t respond) to the first (and still ongoing) pandemic of HIV/AIDS. SELF, DIVIDED explores the dysfunctional yet enduring relationships that surround this pivotal moment in Medeiros’s life and family, brilliantly capturing how we all are connected, in one way or another, to those around us.

John Medeiros is a poet, memoirist, identical twin, and lawyer. He is the author of couplets for a shrinking world and co-editor of Queer Voices: Poetry, Prose, and Pride. His work has appeared in numerous anthologies and literary journals, and he is the recipient of two Minnesota State Arts Board grants, Gulf Coast’s Nonfiction Award, and the AWP Intro Journals Award. He has an MFA and a JD from Hamline University, and he lives in Minneapolis, Minnesota, with his husband.

We have hosted the Minnesota Debate & Advocacy Workshop (MDAW) at Augsburg University for more than a decade. Last year, camps were held virtually. We’re back for 2022!

The URGO Summer Research Program is an 11-week, on-campus program (May 12th – July 27th) where students are funded to conduct research with a faculty mentor. Students receive support throughout the research process from their faculty mentor, a Speaker Series, and weekly seminars with fellow researchers. URGO provides full-time summer researchers (400 hours) with a $6,000 stipend and housing discount while half-time researchers (200 hours) receive a $3,000 stipend and a housing discount.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS
URGO also provides funding for students to work for a professor as a research assistant on an ongoing research project. This is a 100-hour commitment over the course of the summer and comes with a $1,500 stipend. This is an excellent opportunity to try out research for the first time or focus on a specific aspect of a research project.

Spring semester credit refunds will be processed the first week of February, with checks being sent out on Friday the 4th! You can sign up for eRefund through Records and Registration to receive your credit refund via direct deposit.

Please verify that your mailing address is up to date. We cannot send a check to your campus box!

If your credit refund is the result of federal student loans, and you would like to reduce the amount of loans you are borrowing, please email studentfinances@augsburg.edu no later than February 1st. The NASA Space Grant scholarship program supports the advancement of academically focused undergraduates seeking professional careers in the natural sciences, especially space physics & engineering, mathematics, and science/mathematics education.

This competitive program awards up to 6 scholarships for Spring 2022 (totaling $8000), in the following areas:
Emerging Scholarship (Sophomore-Senior): Scholarships of $1000 to encourage students whose course of study shows progress in meeting the criteria of this scholarship program.

Enhanced Scholarship (Sophomore-Senior): Scholarships of $2000 to support students who have shown considerable progress in meeting the criteria of this scholarship program.

Living Well Disability Services is a private, nonprofit 501(c)3 organization founded as Dakota’s Children in West St. Paul in 1972 by parents of children with disabilities, volunteers and community partners. We provide Residential Services and Customized Services to people with intellectual, developmental and physical disabilities throughout the Greater Twin Cities metro area.

This program explores economic, business, ethical and religious forces that have created vast changes in Greek life. Gain an understanding of Greek history, Greek culture, and how that has led to the current Greek business/economic model.

The summer program Innovation and Design in the Netherlands is an unique, short-term study abroad opportunity, open to all Auggies!

Earn 8 credits and your Augsburg experience in just a few weeks, while exploring one of the most innovative countries in the world — the Netherlands – through the prism of history and photography. Visit museums, meet with speakers from across different industries, meet with locals to get an understanding of city life in Amsterdam, and so much more!

Innovation and Design in the Netherlands: Past and Present

This is a 2-class program, and you’ll earn 8 credits, as well as Augsburg Experience. You’ll choose one History and one Art course:

We have multiple summer opportunities available for students.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM
The URGO Summer Research Program is an 11-week, on-campus program (May 12th – July 27th) where students are funded to conduct research with a faculty mentor. Students receive support throughout the research process from their faculty mentor, a Speaker Series, and weekly seminars with fellow researchers. URGO provides full-time summer researchers (400 hours) with a $6,000 stipend and housing discount while half-time researchers (200 hours) receive a $3,000 stipend and a housing discount.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS
URGO also provides funding for students to work for a professor as a research assistant on an ongoing research project. This is a 100-hour commitment over the course of the summer and comes with a $1,500 stipend. This is an excellent opportunity to try out research for the first time or focus on a specific aspect of a research project.

Phase 1 of the applications are due February 16th at 11:59 PM, so start talking with your faculty members to learn about what research is going on in your department!

2022-2023 Multicultural Life Scholarship Application is open! This is a great opportunity for underrepresented undergraduate students in the Augsburg Day Program. Those who are eligible can be awarded between 2,500-5,000 annual, renewable awards.

If you are a current scholarship recipient and want to renew your award make sure to fill the application!

These scholarships include: ASIA Scholarship, Bonnie Wallace American Indian Scholarship, HOLA Scholarship, LQBTQIA+ Student Services Scholarship, M. Anita Gay Hawthorne Scholarship, and Scholastic Connection Scholarship.

DACA and undocumented students are eligible and highly encouraged to apply. Promise, Presidential and ActSix Scholarship recipients and International Students (F-1 and J-1) are not eligible for this award.
