Seeking Nominations for the Sabo Center Engagement Committee

submitted by gilmerje@augsburg.edu

Seeking Nominations for the Sabo Center Engagement Committee – Staff, Faculty, Students & Community Members

The Sabo Center is forming an advisory council to grow more and better collaborations, make our work more diffuse around campus and in our neighborhoods, and bring more voices into our processes and planning. This is an opportunity to learn more about and contribute to community-engaged work at Augsburg, build relationships, and share ideas and experiences in ways that can help inform our work.

The Sabo Center Engagement Council (SCEC) will support and guide community engagement and changemaking work at Augsburg and in our neighborhoods. The SCEC is not a decision-making body. Staff, Students, Faculty and Community Members are all eligible for nominations.

Expectations:
Attend three committee meetings throughout the spring semester of 2025.
Advocate for community-engaged work broadly across campus and beyond.
Serve 2 year terms. We are tentatively planning for meetings the weeks of February 17th, March 17th, April 14th, and an informal gathering at the end of April.

Students & members of the community outside Augsburg are eligible for an honorarium to support their participation.

If you would like to nominate yourself or others, please fill out the form linked below by January 24th. Nominees will be informed of acceptance by January 31st, 2025.

Campus Wide Upgrade to Windows 11

submitted by harpern1@augsburg.edu

Dear Augsburg University Staff and Faculty,

I hope this message finds you well. I am reaching out to inform you of an upcoming upgrade to our university’s standard operating system environment. On Monday January 6th, 2025 we will begin the process of transitioning all university-managed Windows 10 computers to Windows 11.

What to Expect: Automatic Upgrade: The upgrade will be deployed automatically. Please keep your computers on if you are on campus. If you are remote, the update will push to your computer when you are back on campus.

Minimal Downtime: We anticipate that the process should take approximately 30 minutes, during which your device will be unavailable. We encourage you to save and close all open files and applications before leaving work prior to Monday, January 6th.

How To Prepare: As always, it is important to save and backup all of your files to Google Drive or another backup solution. Classrooms: Classroom and lab computers have already been upgraded to Windows 11 during the summer.

Post-Upgrade Support: Our IT support team will be available to assist with any questions or issues you may encounter after the upgrade. If you experience any difficulties, please contact your LFC. We have provided documentation and a quick-start guide to help you navigate the new interface and features below: https://go.augsburg.edu/windows11

A zoom training session is scheduled on Wednesday January 8th, 2025 for those new to Windows 11. Sharing Sad News about Gracia (Nydahl) Luoma ’66

submitted by bergc2@augsburg.edu

We recently received word of the death Gracia (Nydahl) Luoma ’66. Gracia died on November 30, 2024. After receiving her bachelor’s degree in mathematics, she forged a career in computer science. Gracia and her husband, Rev. Dr. John Luoma ’65, were generous supports of Augsburg, which included funding the John K. and Gracia Nydahl Luoma Endowed Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to an undergraduate student who demonstrates financial need, academic achievement, and a commitment to vocational service, preferably in the Christian ministry, education, psychology, or medical fields.

In 2019, Gracia was quoted referring to Augsburg has “the family business, so to speak.” Born in Minneapolis to the Nydahl family, she recalled frequent outings to Augsburg events as a young child. Her grandfather Johannes, who emigrated from Norway in 1845, graduated from both Augsburg College and Augsburg Seminary, which he attended from 1883 to 1891. He became a professor of history and Norwegian before becoming Augsburg’s head librarian in 1920. Johannes and his wife, Tabitha, had six children, all of whom followed his footsteps, as have many other descendants. In fact, Augsburg recognized this “formative family” with a Distinguished Service Award in 2004.

Gracia’s memorial service will be held at St. Andrew Lutheran Church, 5607 NE Gher Road, Vancouver, WA 98662. The service will be at 2:00 p.m. PT on January 9, 2025. The obituary linked below includes information on viewing the service remotely.

Date: Thursday, January 16, 2025
Time: Pick up at 5 p.m. with a return to campus around 7 p.m. — Pick up at Einstein’s!

Important: Changes Coming to Augsburg’s Information Systems

submitted by krajewsk@augsburg.edu

Hello Augsburg students, faculty, and staff,

Over the next 4–5 years, Augsburg will be changing its primary information system (called Unit4 or formerly Agresso). This change will involve moving from our current campus-based Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system with numerous third-party systems to a unified, cloud-based ERP system.

This is a complex, multi-year, campus-wide project that involves how we manage student records, registration, human resources, finances, and more. Simply put, how you interact with Augsburg as a student or employee will be changing and improving once we have made the change. How you register for classes, record time worked and time off, submit grades for your courses, and so on—all will be modernized and, ideally, improved.

Such a change can be both exciting and daunting for people so we intend to support you in this transition with plenty of information, communication, and campus engagement as the project moves forward. The first steps will be to document business processes and engage key functional areas in preparation for campus visits by potential vendors this spring.

On the project web page https://sites.augsburg.edu/it/about-it/cloud-erp-project/ you’ll find information on project timeline, decision process, and project goals. That project page will grow and expand over time. If you have any questions about the project please feel free to reach out to me at any time.

Change in Ordering Augsburg Business Cards

submitted by longj@augsburg.edu

We have changed the company we order our business cards through. The Online Ordering page has been updated to take you to the new forms through Loffler and the copy request page. The Order Business Cards page had directions in the red box. The link will use your Augsburg ID to log into the Copy Request page. You will want to select “Forms Module” under the Orders menu along the top of the page. Next select your cost center number by clicking on the green check mark next to it. Follow the instructions found on the next page. There are four business cards types.

Augsburg-IA are for Institutional Advancement Department

Augsburg-Athletics are for the Athletics Department

Augsburg-CGEE are for Center for Global Education and Experience

Augsburg-Auggies are the general business cards for Augsburg University

The system will show you a preview as you fill out the form. You should order in boxes of 100, 250, 500 or 1,000 business cards. As usual business cards will be sent in a batch order every other week and normally take about a week to receive back once the batch is sent. They will then be delivered with your department’s mail. If you do not have a mail drop off they will be in the department’s campus box for pick up. The cards will be charged to the cost center number with the Accounting paperwork at the end of the month. Please contact copyctr@augsburg.edu if you have any questions.

With budgeting decisions getting made now, please reach out as soon as possible—by early January at the latest.

Need to Find a Therapist in the Community?

submitted by phalp1@augsburg.edu

Augsburg’s Center for Wellness & Counseling offers free counseling on campus, as well as free telehealth counseling through BetterMynd. In addition, for students or other community members who are interested in using their insurance to find an ongoing therapist in the community, CWC has a referral database called MiResource. Any Augsburg community member can use this database to find possible therapist matches. The database is searchable by location, insurance, issue you want support for, therapist identities, and more. Check it out!
