In preparation for colder temperatures, the facilities team has completed the cooling to heating system transfers in campus buildings. The removal of window air conditioners will begin this week.
Science 123 classroom remodeling continues. New carpet installation is being completed and the delivery and installation of the new furniture is being scheduled.
The replacement of all campus light bulbs with LED light bulbs will resume in early November. Facilities will notify departments ahead of time about when to expect LED replacements to occur in their areas.

The paper pricing has been updated in the online copy request system. Due to recent paper shortages and mill closings there have been price increases in most categories. This mostly affects special paper (cardstocks, colored paper etc) Our regular 20# paper used across campus is remaining the same price. Isaiah Bruhjell (junior) and Jakobe Markworth (senior) have been named 2021 Twin Cities Film Festival Film Fellows. TCFF Film Fellows are competitively selected and receive access and mentorship during the festival, attending an industry night, exclusive events, and meeting with festival filmmakers.
The Twin Cities Film Festival kicks off next week at the West End in St. Louis Park. TCFF runs October 21-30 with both in-person and streaming events.

The Interfaith Ally Training will be offered twice in Fall 2021, once online and once in person. This workshop provides participants with the opportunity to learn about a wide range of faiths and ethical traditions including Native Spirituality, Judaism, Islam, Hybrid, Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism and Atheism. Participants will hear the stories of community members from a variety of traditions and have the opportunity to learn through case studies. This workshop qualifies as an equity/inclusion event to help maintain good standing in the Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program. The Interfaith Ally Workshop is a program of Interfaith at Augsburg and Campus Ministry.

The library staff invites you to join us in saying goodbye to Caroline Wack and wishing her well as she starts a new career opportunity. Please stop by the library’s Learning Commons, street level, on Friday, October 15th between 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. to thank Caroline for her creative, committed service to Augsburg.
While working at Lindell Library for two years she has expanded campus access to open education resources, conducted library orientations for all Aug Sem sections, and co-taught the Library’s first ever credit-bearing course on information literacy.
Caroline provided innovative support to the AugSem, CLASS/Gage Center, Communication Studies, English, Film Studies, MFA/Creative Writing, and TRIO/Student Support Services departments.
The Lindell Library staff will miss her greatly and we wish her all the best!

Participants will be able to identify the unique barriers that immigrants and refugees face in employment. Learn creative and innovative ways the International Institute has found to address these barriers and help immigrants and refugees overcome them. Hear from employer partners who have benefited from trained employees as well as get a glimpse at the curriculum and employment navigation tools utilized in helping immigrants and refugees overcome barriers in order to achieve their dreams and goals. Finally, participants will be introduced to program participants who have benefited from the Hospitality Career Pathway.

Americans encounter more religious diversity at work than in any other sphere of life, yet religion is too often left out of the diversity conversation. Many of us are uncomfortable talking about religion at work because we are afraid of offending our colleagues or wading into uncertain legal territory, but engaging religious diversity can lead to stronger team culture and better relationships with clients and consumers. Join Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC) for a Professional Development Lab that will give you the chance to explore issues of religious identity and diversity at work, develop your interfaith skillset, and create an action plan for how you will engage religious and secular identity in your workplace.

About The Forum’s Professional Development Labs
Professional Development Labs (PDLs) are half-day interactive learning experiences intended to develop professional competencies that support leaders in reaching the next level in their DEI leadership. Unlike traditional workshop sessions, PDLs will be goal oriented and include personal and professional action and accountability planning for next level leadership. PDLs will be offered synchronously in varying formats (in-person, hybrid or virtual) based on CDC convening recommendations.

We are delighted to welcome Katie Boyle, Assistant to the Dean of Arts & Sciences! Katie brings over 14 years of experience in higher education to her new role at Augsburg. As College Coordinator at Walden University, Katie was a member of the Doctor of Business Administration program leadership team that served over 2,000 students. Her experience working directly with a wide variety of students, faculty and administration in multiple settings creates a strong foundation for her work at Augsburg.
In this position, Katie’s main responsibilities will include supporting the work of the Dean of Arts & Sciences, Ryan Haaland; assisting and partnering with directors of faculty groups such as Gen. Ed., Assessment, and First Year Experience, and she will supervise two administrative assistant positions in Academic Affairs.
Katie received the bachelor of arts degree (French) from the University of Minnesota, and the master of arts in elementary education from St. Catherine University.

The Interfaith Ally Training will be offered twice in Fall 2021, once online and once in person. This workshop provides participants with the opportunity to learn about a wide range of faiths and ethical traditions including Native Spirituality, Judaism, Islam, Hybrid, Hinduism, Christianity, Buddhism and Atheism. Participants will hear the stories of community members from a variety of traditions and have the opportunity to learn through case studies. This workshop qualifies as an equity/inclusion event to help maintain good standing in the Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program. The Interfaith Ally Workshop is a program of Interfaith at Augsburg and Campus Ministry.

The Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program is a fully-funded eight to ten week language and cultural immersion program abroad in which students receive eight credits of intensive language instruction in less-commonly taught languages, as well as structured cultural enrichment experiences designed to promote rapid language gains. CLS is part of a US State Department initiative to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering foreign languages critical to national security and economic prosperity. There are fifteen languages that applicants can select from.
The CLS Program seeks participants with diverse interests, and from a wide range of fields of study and career paths. Competitive applicants will need to be able to illustrate a commitment to language learning, a very strong academic record and potential to succeed in a rigorous academic setting, and ability to adapt to an intensive program and challenging cultural environment.
Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
Languages with no previous study required: Azerbaijani Bangla Hindi Indonesian Persian Punjabi Swahili Turkish Urdu
Languages with one year prior study required: Arabic Korean Portuguese Russian
Languages with two years prior study required: Chinese Japanese

Teach with GIS is designed for educators with little-to-no GIS experience who want to add interactive tools to enhance teaching and learning across the curriculum. Augsburg received a Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Fund grant in 2020 and has set aside a portion of those funds to provide funding for the captioning of faculty course videos by CaptionSync. This is a temporary funding source and will be available until all funds are used.
You may caption videos you have recorded or YouTube videos you are using in your course that lack captions. The grant application includes instructions on how the CaptionSync process works. The Admission Department is hosting Auggie Preview Days, a two-day campus visit event for prospective Auggies, on Thursday, October 21 and Friday, October 22. For the convenience of our visitors, 50 parking spots will be reserved in Lot D all day Thursday and Friday.
We hope that you will help us welcome prospective Auggies and their families to campus; whether it be a friendly wave or offering directions to lost looking people, small gestures go a long way.
For displaced faculty and staff needing alternative transportation and parking accommodations for these two days, the following options are available:

The CDC has authorized boosters of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine at least six months after receiving the second dose for certain eligible groups, including educators and education staff. At this time this is only for people who received the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine as their primary series. Officials are still reviewing data from Moderna and Johnson & Johnson and will decide when recipients will be eligible for a booster. Come celebrate Lauren Causey’s new career opportunity during an on-campus farewell event planned for today, October 7, from 2:00-3:00 pm in the quad (OGC 100 if inclement weather).
We want to celebrate Lauren Causey’s new career opportunity as the Executive Director of the Office of Sponsored Research and Projects at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California. As the Director of Augsburg’s Office of Sponsored Programs, Lauren led our campus work in all things grant-related. In the process she also became a Certified Research Administrator. Those of us who have worked closely with Lauren in grant preparation and management know her incredible capacity to write compelling narratives around Augsburg’s mission and her amazing attention to detail. Her talents and steadfast professionalism, patience, and grace created the foundation for numerous grants over the past 3 years,
We thank Lauren for her dedication to our campus and the true impact her work had in supporting our students and faculty since joining the Augsburg staff in 2018. We wish Lauren well in her new endeavors and know that she will always be a part of our Augsburg family.

Ready to Run Minnesota, which is part of a national network of nonpartisan campaign training programs designed to encourage women to run for office and to encourage all of us to support increased representation of women in politics. This year, there will be a series of monthly (October-February) virtual training sessions over the lunch hour on Fridays. You will learn how to fundraise, receive media training, and gain other important skills…all for free.
The first event is with a national speaker, Rebecca Sive, at noon on October 8. Everyone is welcome to join the free sessions on Fridays, so please use the Zoom link to sign up.

Paper mills have been affected by the global pandemic and output has been down.
One of the big announcements recently is the paper manufacturer Boise has announced they are discontinuing manufacture of all colored copy paper, including the Fireworx line of papers. The Copy Center is working to ensure we keep our regular supply from other suppliers, but due to the current state of the paper industry and supply chain issues, periodically we may not have certain colors, weights, or styles available. We will consult with you if substitutions need to be made on your project. There may also be some price increases in paper. We appreciate your patience as we work through this issue.

Americans encounter more religious diversity at work than in any other sphere of life, yet religion is too often left out of the diversity conversation. Many of us are uncomfortable talking about religion at work because we are afraid of offending our colleagues or wading into uncertain legal territory, but engaging religious diversity can lead to stronger team culture and better relationships with clients and consumers. Join Interfaith Youth Core (IFYC) for a Professional Development Lab that will give you the chance to explore issues of religious identity and diversity at work, develop your interfaith skillset, and create an action plan for how you will engage religious and secular identity in your workplace.

About The Forum’s Professional Development Labs Professional Development Labs (PDLs) are half-day interactive learning experiences intended to develop professional competencies that support leaders in reaching the next level in their DEI leadership. Unlike traditional workshop sessions, PDLs will be goal oriented and include personal and professional action and accountability planning for next level leadership. PDLs will be offered synchronously in varying formats (in-person, hybrid or virtual) based on CDC convening recommendations.
Today representatives from two organizations which offer year-long service experiences will be tabling in Christensen Center from 10:00 am – 1:00 pm (except during chapel time).
Mae Helen Jackson is Young Adult Outreach and Placement Manager for Young Adult Ministries with the ELCA. She is in charge of recruitment for the Young Adults in Global Mission (YAGM) program as well as other Young Adult Ministries programs within the larger church expression. The ELCA Young Adults in Global Mission program invites ELCA young adults ages 21-29 into a transformative, year-long journey in international service. As they offer themselves in service, ELCA young adults are shaped by the witness of our global neighbors. They share in the journeys of companion churches and organizations in one of ten countries around the world.
Also tabling is Ciara Kowalcyzk from Urban Servant Corps. Ciara will share about her experience as a full time volunteer at GrowHaus, a nonprofit indoor farm in North Denver dedicated to food production, food education, food distribution, and economic opportunity in chapel today. During her year of service, Ciara Kowalczyk lived in intentional community with others who were serving people experiencing homelessness, teaching at a school for pregnant and parenting teens, offering nutritional food access and other organizations committed to social justice and racial equity.
