Last month, Augsburg University hosted the 30th Nobel Peace Prize Forum Minneapolis (NPPF). This was the final Forum bearing the Nobel name, and building on our 30 years of experience, there is strong interest in continuing to convene an annual international forum at Augsburg to showcase our commitments to global perspectives, living faith, active citizenship, and meaningful work.
As we look toward the future, we want your ideas for what a redesigned Forum might look and feel like here at Augsburg. How will a “signature event” that expresses our institutional commitments be designed to align with students interests and curriculum across a range of departments?
Please share your voice and ideas with us. Click on the survey link below that best describes your role at Augsburg:

Approximately 10-15 new students will be arriving to Minneapolis in early January for Orientation. Here are the details:
You will meet students at 4:30pm in the Oyate Commons (Christensen Center Suite 2) on Friday January 11th. We are asking for you to host 3-4 students and drive them to your home for a meal. We ask that you bring them back by around 7:30 pm. It helps to be hosting with someone, whether that is your partner, family or you can pair with another faculty or staff on campus.
If you are interested, please email me at bonfigli@augsburg.edu. We are looking for around 4 – 5 hosts, but I will have a backup list as some times conflicts arise.

What do words like “founding” mean at a place like Augsburg? If, as a Lutheran institution, we believe in the concept of “semper reformanda” (always reforming), then shouldn’t we say that Augsburg has had multiple “foundings”—not only physically, but intellectually and theologically?
Augsburg history professor Phil Adamo will explore these questions in the 2018 Heritage Day Talk, offering examples from his new book, Hold Fast to What is Good: A History of Augsburg University in 10 Objects, written for the upcoming celebration of Augsburg’s 150th anniversary.
Please join us for this free event tonight from 7:00-8:30 pm in Hagfors Center 150. A reception will follow the presentation.

There are several unscrupulous businesses out there who attempt to sell you outrageously priced toner over the phone. We have already gotten a call from someone (mis)representing themselves as our printer vendor – Marco, and referencing our fleet of Sharp copiers.
They may start with asking you what is the model or ID# of the copier near your desk. They may say they have extra stock of the toner you need or the price is due to increase. They may offer to ship you a toner on trial. Regardless of what they say, DO NOT give them any information. All you need to know is that you get toner for your copier or printer by either calling the Copy Center at extension x1054 or emailing at copyctr@augsburg.edu.
You will NEVER need to purchase toner for machines in your area.
A quick way to ditch these “toner phoners” is to tell them you would like to transfer them to the person in the organization who purchases toner – they will hang up before you can transfer them!

Last month, Augsburg University hosted the 30th Nobel Peace Prize Forum Minneapolis (NPPF). Over the Forum’s three days, more than 1,200 individuals took part in workshops, plenaries, breakout sessions, and arts activities centered on the theme “The Paradox of Peace.”
Faculty – http://augsburg.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4SB2wDeHIyYIDel

Staff – http://augsburg.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_3BFqAjAJNmu8rjf

What do words like “founding” mean at a place like Augsburg? If, as a Lutheran institution, we believe in the concept of “semper reformanda” (always reforming), then shouldn’t we say that Augsburg has had multiple “foundings”—not only physically, but intellectually and theologically?
Augsburg history professor Phil Adamo will explore these questions in the 2018 Heritage Day Talk, offering examples from his new book, Hold Fast to What is Good: A History of Augsburg University in 10 Objects, written for the upcoming celebration of Augsburg’s 150th anniversary.

Body:
What do words like “founding” mean at a place like Augsburg? If, as a Lutheran institution, we believe in the concept of “semper reformanda” (always reforming), then shouldn’t we say that Augsburg has had multiple “foundings”—not only physically, but intellectually and theologically?
Augsburg history professor Phil Adamo will explore these questions in the 2018 Heritage Day Talk, offering examples from his new book, Hold Fast to What is Good: A History of Augsburg University in 10 Objects, written for the upcoming celebration of Augsburg’s 150th anniversary.
Please join us for this free event on Wednesday, October 24th from 7:00-8:30 pm in Hagfors Center 150. A reception will follow the presentation.

In honor of Mental Illness Awareness Week (October 7-13th), we’d would like to remind faculty and staff of the resources that are available to help address mental health related needs. As always, we want each and every one of our employees to be able to bring their whole selves to work, and part of total well-being is mental wellness. Below are some helpful resources/reminders:
-The Center for Counseling and Wellness offer resources to faculty and staff that can be accessed on their website: http://www.augsburg.edu/cwc/facultystaff-referral-guide/self-care-for-faculty-staff/
-GuidanceResources (Augsburg’s EAP provider) has a comprehensive resource guide that was distributed back in May, in honor of Mental Health Awareness Month. Access to that resource can found here: http://web.augsburg.edu/hr/2018_Wellness/RG_MentalHealthResources.pdf
-See the EAP flyer (http://web.augsburg.edu/hr/2018_Wellness/Guidance_Resources.EAP.pdf) for more information available to faculty and staff
-HealthPartners has resources available to members on their website at: https://www.healthpartners.com/hp/healthy-living/health-topics/behavioral-health/index.html
-And lastly, a reminder that eligible staff can use their sick time to attend to both physical and mental health needs as they arise.
