Augsburg is implementing a COVID-19 vaccine requirement for students, faculty, and staff for fall semester. Documented medical and non-medical exemptions will apply.

CTL Back-to-School Workshops Are Here

To kick off the new academic year IN PERSON, CTL is hosting the Back-to-School Workshops on Wednesday, August 25th and Thursday, August 26th (see program and RSVP form below). The goal of these Back-to-School workshops is to primarily focus on “just-in-time” topics that can be immediately put to use in your upcoming Fall courses. Workshops and sessions will be held in Hagfors (rooms TBD). Unless otherwise indicated, all sessions and workshops are open to and welcome all Augsburg faculty and staff.

Please be sure to RSVP for sessions you are interested in as soon as possible – you can change your selections later! Strict room capacities will be enforced and some sessions may fill. The RSVP link is included at the top of the CTL Back-to-School Workshops Program.

CTL Back-to-School Workshops (schedule and description of sessions)

Become a Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) Fellow– Apply by September 5

The Center for Teaching and Learning at Augsburg is seeking TWO faculty members to join the CTL Fellows program for a 2-year term (Sep 2021-Aug 2023). The group of six CTL fellows work closely with the Director of CTL, Jennifer Bankers-Fulbright, to plan, coordinate, and sometimes even host the teaching and learning programming offered to Augsburg faculty throughout the year. Each fellow receives a stipend of $500 per year as well as an additional $1000 in travel funds per year to attend additional teaching and learning focused conferences and bring ideas and information back to CTL.

The minimum qualifications for these two fellowship openings are that you must:
be a full-time faculty member at Augsburg (tenure-track or non-tenure track),
have at least an introductory knowledge of effective pedagogies at the undergraduate and/or graduate level, and
have completed the Augsburg University Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program (or are on track to complete it during the Fall 2021 semester)

Staff: Remote Work Arrangements

Staff members interested in ongoing remote work arrangements should meet with their supervisors to discuss department needs and the specific benefits of a remote work arrangement to both the employee and the department.

Arrangements for regularly scheduled remote work should be submitted using the form on the Augsburg Human Resources website.

Apply To Be Opinions or A&C Editor of The Echo (paid)

The Echo, Augsburg’s student-run newspaper, is looking for students interested in our positions of Opinions editor and A&C editor.

The editor of our “Opinions” section is responsible for curating, editing and writing articles centered on Augsburg student and community opinions and stories. Some examples of Opinions content topics include political comics, critiques of Augsburg administration and leadership, experiences of marginalized identities, political views and more.

The editor of our “Arts & Culture” (A&C) section is responsible for curating, editing, and writing articles that cover artistic happenings at Augsburg and in the greater Minneapolis community. Previous articles have included album/movie/show reviews, event coverage, interviews with local artists, and more.

Both positions are great opportunities for students who are looking to develop their writing, editing and leadership skills or are passionate about community and the power of narrative. Section editors are compensated $60 per issue, totaling $1200 for the whole year, and work approximately six hours a week.

*Pro tip: you do not need to be an expert in writing or editing to do well as an Echo editor. The Echo provides ample training and a welcoming team of support. If you’re interested, go for it!*

Keeping Track of Auggies

Math Student Wins Outstanding Paper Award

McNair Scholar Mackenzie Ray is the recipient of an Outstanding Student Paper Session Presentation Award at the national MathFest 2021, which occurred earlier this month. Only 25 of the nearly 100 student presentations were distinguished with the award. Mackenzie is a mathematics and psychology double major. Her research project, “4D Hypercube Perspective Modelling Using 3D Printing for Educational Purposes” was funded by the McNair Scholars Program, and her research was conducted under the direction of Dr. Matthew Haines. Also presenting at the national conference were Drs. Dorée, Haines, and Zobitz of the MSCS Department.

Are You an Experienced Debater? Get Paid for Your Expertise – Be a Community Coach for the MNUDL.

The Minnesota Urban Debate League is a program of Augsburg University. We provide academic competitive debate programming to middle and high school students in the Twin Cities.

We are looking for community coaches for the 2020-21 season. Community coaches are experienced debaters who want to share their expertise with students and collaborate with teacher coaches at our area schools.

Applicants who competed in Policy/Cross-Examination, Lincoln Douglas, or Public Forum debate as high schoolers/college students would be highly preferred.

We pay our coaches $2,250 for the September-December season and we pay judges $55 a day to judge. Debate is a great way to earn a good amount of money as a coach or some nice weekend money as a judge – it’s also an excellent way to fulfill volunteer hours and work with students. Most importantly, it’s a fulfilling and fun experience!

An AmeriCorps VISTA fellowship is a great way to make a career change to the nonprofit field or prepare yourself for further education. You’ll receive professional development, training, a living stipend, and an education award at the end of your service year, which can be used to pay student loans or apply to further education expenses. AmeriCorps members get non-competitive eligibility for federal jobs and gain benefits at Graduate Schools of Service.
