Campus Share Shop at Augsburg, Check it Out

Members of the Environmental Stewardship Committee and Campus Cupboard are coming together to create a Campus Share Shop for the students of Augsburg! Our purpose is to create a space where students can check out goods they need, rather than purchasing new items. By doing this, we hope to:
-Reduce the consumption of material goods
-Reduce students’ costs
-Create a community space where students can take part in informal learning around sustainable practices and skill-sharing.

This is a project created by students for students, so we are reaching out to you to find out what you would want to see in the share shop. Please take a few minutes to take a short survey that will aid in creating a share shop that will properly serve the students of Augsburg.

Augsburg is now working with the People’s Center to provide certain clinic services to students (all academic programs) who don’t have insurance for a $5 co-pay.

The People’s Center is located at 425 20th Avenue South, one block west from Augsburg, off Riverside Avenue.

➢ With a $5.00 co-pay, the following are available to Augsburg students who do not have insurance:
● Office visits for acute or chronic medical problems
● Annual physical exams – 1 per year
● Sexually transmitted diseases screening and lab work done at The People’s Center (lab diagnostics done outside of The People’s Center are not covered).
● X-rays performed at The People’s Center
● Tetanus immunization
● Lab tests performed at The People’s Center
● Tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux)
● Casts, crutches, splints, slings and ace bandages
● Allergy injections (prescription and supply must be provided by student)
● Flu shots

➢ If you have health insurance, your insurance provider may cover medical services through The People’s Center. The clinic will bill your insurance for medical services and you will be responsible for any co-pays or deductibles associated with your insurance. You should check with your insurance provider to see if services at The People’s Center will be covered.

Dismantling White Supremacy – Its Power, Structures and Culture
November 15-16, 2019
Metropolitan State University in St. Paul.

TODAY IS THE LAST DAY!
Proposals are invited for workshops that address the conference theme: Dismantling White Supremacy – Its Power, Structures & Culture. Workshops will be offered the afternoons both days of the conference in breakout sessions lasting 90 minutes each.

We seek workshops that enable participants to:
* Acknowledge and confront the construct and legacy of white supremacy in this country
* Identify how white supremacy is embedded in the policies, practices, and structures of the criminal justice, education, housing, wealth accrual, medical, social service, and land usage systems
* Become familiar with tools, resources, and networks available to those who have committed themselves to removing the vestiges of white supremacy from these systems
* Discover ways to further the internal work each of us must do in order to effectively confront institutions long grounded in white supremacy
* Learn from each other about the work currently being done to dismantle white supremacy, and how we can replicate that work in our own communities
* Creatively envision a world without white supremacy in which everyone can flourish

We expect our workshop presenters to create participatory and reflective opportunities for participants to be actively engaged and stimulated.

We are currently looking for unopened jellies, extra mac and cheese boxes, rice or soup mixes, and cans of tuna. However any donations are welcome and greatly appreciated. We do ask that the expiration date on these items are with in the last three years to insure safety and quality. If you hav eany donations please feel free to stop by the cupboard located in Foss by the chapel during open hours:

Augsburg MFA Graduate Student Readings

Augsburg University MFA in Creative Writing department’s 2019 Summer Residency will be on campus from Thursday, July 18 through Sunday, July 28. Please join us in welcoming our group of very talented students and acclaimed writers for this festival of craft talks, workshops, evening readings and more.

Forty writing students will be attending the ten-day residency, with about half of them living on campus. During the fall and spring semesters they work with their mentors and fellow writers from their homes in various parts of the country, with one student coming from Finland.

Sixteen graduating MFA students will be giving public readings of their works, and we invite you to join us:

From the Pushcart Prize to the Pulitzer Prize, from the “Best American” series to the Minnesota Book Awards, it’s clear that literary communities are constantly comparing, judging, and awarding value. What does it mean to evaluate a text or a writer? How do we determine which book, fellowship application, script, or screenplay is the best? To what degree is literary appreciation subjective, and what criteria do we use to make these judgments? After we hear from a panel of writers who have judged and/or been judged, Jim Cihlar, publisher of Augsburg’s Howling Bird Press, will provide an overview of how the MFA student editors choose our annual prize winner and do the work of publishing and promoting the resulting book.

Julia M. Brown is Artistic Programs Administrator at the Playwrights’ Center.

Shannon Gibney won the 2019 and 2016 Minnesota Book Award in Young Peoples’ Literature.

Alayne Hopkins is Assistant Director of Programs & Services at The Friends of the Saint Paul Public Library, overseeing the statewide activities of the Minnesota Center for the Book, which include the Minnesota Book Awards program and other initiatives.

From the Pushcart Prize to the Pulitzer Prize, from the “Best American” series to the Minnesota Book Awards, it’s clear that literary communities are constantly comparing, judging, and awarding value. What does it mean to evaluate a text or a writer? How do we determine which book, fellowship application, script, or screenplay is the best? To what degree is literary appreciation subjective, and what criteria do we use to make these judgments? After we hear from a panel of writers who have judged and/or been judged, Jim Cihlar, publisher of Augsburg’s Howling Bird Press, will provide an overview of how the MFA student editors choose our annual prize winner and do the work of publishing and promoting the resulting book.

Augsburg University MFA in Creative Writing department’s 2019 Summer Residency will be on campus from Thursday, July 18 through Sunday, July 28. Please join us in welcoming our group of very talented students and acclaimed writers for this festival of craft talks, workshops, evening readings and more.

Forty writing students will be attending the ten-day residency, with about half of them living on campus. During the fall and spring semesters they work with their mentors and fellow writers from their homes in various parts of the country, with one student coming from Finland.

Dear Augsburg Students, Faculty, and Staff,
You are invited to participate in a research study on Predicting Maximal Oxygen Consumption with a Single Stage Auggie Skate Test. Research subjects are asked to be within 18-60 years old, healthy, active, moderately-fit male or female, and is a competent skater. You will be asked to complete a bruce protocol treadmill test to volitional fatigue and to return 48 hours later to complete a leisurely ice skating assessment. You will be compensated upon completion of each test with a $5 cash for a total of $10.

Payroll Planning – Office Closed

Please plan ahead for the Friday, July 5th pay date as the Accounting/Payroll office will be closed on Thursday July 4th and Friday July 5th.
The deadline for payroll hour submission is 2pm on Monday July 1st, you will be locked out of the system after this point and any hours submitted after this time may not be paid until the next payroll pay date. It is important that hours are logged daily as your work them. Lilly Network Grant Opportunities for Faculty and Staff

As members of the Lilly Network of Church-related Colleges and Universities, we are invited to apply to the Network’s Small Grant program.

Lilly Network grants are designed to forward the mission of the Lilly Network, which is to strengthen the quality and shape the character of church-related higher learning. Proposals are due September 15th and should directly or indirectly advance this mission at a local Lilly Network campus, among several campuses, or in a collaborative space.

Proposals will be accepted for the following programs:

Faculty Development / Mentoring – $3,000-$12.000

These grants are intended to help nurture faculty at all stages of their careers at Network institutions and strengthen the commitment of faculty to institutional mission.

Regional Collaboration / Conferences – $12,500

Previous conference grants have focused on issues facing schools in a particular region, topics of current debate among faculty at a particular school, student life issues, graduate student matters, various theological or denominational traditions in higher education, an array of topics in liberal and professional education, and issues of

Network Exchange (Best practice sharing) – $25,000

Compensation to Participate in an Auggie Skate Test Research Proposal

Dear Augsburg Students, Faculty, and Staff,
You are invited to participate in a research study on Predicting Maximal Oxygen Consumption with a Single Stage Auggie Skate Test. Research subjects are asked to be within 18-60 years old, healthy, active, moderately-fit male or female, and is a competent skater. You will be asked to complete a bruce protocol treadmill test to volitional fatigue and to return 48 hours later to complete a leisurely ice skating assessment. You will be compensated upon completion of each test with a $5 cash for a total of $10.

One of our redundant Internet Service Providers will be performing emergency maintenance on Internet fiber circuits.

During this time, there will be two brief 2-5 minute period where some internet traffic may reroute to secondary internet providers.

Maintenance Window:
6/26/2019 – 6/27/2019
10:00pm – 5:00am

Estimated Downtime within Maint. Window:
Internet Traffic: two separate 2-5 minutes windows while internet traffic reroutes to redundant providers.
If on campus, you may see a short 2-5 minute disruption in your ability to get to some web sites or streaming services.
If off campus, you may experience a short 2-5 minute disruption in your ability to get to some Augsburg services.
