Friday, March 8 is one of our admitted student visit events, “Experience Augsburg.” We are excited to welcome high school seniors, transfer students, as well as friends and families to the campus. Many of them will be using this day to make their final decision about attending Augsburg.

Lot A will be reserved for our visitors. Please plan to park elsewhere. We understand that the snow has made parking and accessibility all the more limited, and we greatly appreciate your assistance. Thank you in advance for all you do to help us recruit future Auggies!

If you see a guest during this time that looks lost, please assist them. The idea of this day is to welcome families to campus, introduce them to students and faculty, and share with them a positive experience of life as an Auggie. Even small gestures like saying hello or offering directions go a long way to making a positive impression.

Streets designated as Snow Emergency Routes and Parkways are not affected by Winter Parking Restrictions and vehicles can park on both sides of these streets, unless otherwise posted.

Augsburg has designated Saturday February 16th a snow removal day for Lot B. For the removal, all vehicles will need to be out of the lot before 6:00am on Saturday and remain out of the lot until 12:00 p.m.

If you normally park in Lot B we ask that during this time you move your vehicle to lot D or L. After 12:00 p.m. on Saturday you can move your vehicle back to lot B.

Please note that any vehicles left in Lot B at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday are subject to immediate towing.

Augsburg University has canceled classes that start before 12 p.m. Thursday, January 31 because of frigid weather. Students are encouraged to consult the course Moodle site for additional information and alternative coursework from their instructors. Classes that start at 12 p.m. or later will be held on their normal schedules.

Normal campus operations resume at 10 a.m. Thursday. Only essential services employees may need to report before then on Thursday morning. Employees with questions should contact their manager to verify if they should report to work.

In compliance with the “Timely Notice” provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 Augsburg University Department of Public Safety is giving notice of a concerning incident that occurred on 21st Ave S near 6th St S on or near the Minneapolis Campus.

On 1/12/2019 at 11:29 p.m., Public Safety received a report from an individual that a firearm was discharged at them from a vehicle driving on 21st Ave S near 6th St S. The victim, who is not a student and was not injured, stated they were walking near 6th St S on 21st Ave S when a white vehicle, possibly a Ford compact with tinted windows, was driving north on 21st Ave S when the victim heard 2 gunshots. The victim stated the vehicle performed a U-turn on 21st Ave S and they heard more gunshots. No one was injured during the incident. Public Safety staff and Minneapolis Police responded to the report, immediately patrolling the area and identified a suspect vehicle, which Minneapolis Police investigated and cleared as not involved in the incident. At this time, the Department of Public Safety and Minneapolis Police believe this to be a targeted attack and not a random incident.

This incident is currently under investigation by the Department of Public Safety and Minneapolis Police. If you have any information regarding this incident, we urge you to contact the Department of Public Safety or the Minneapolis Police.

DPS received a report that at 2:35 pm Monday, 12/10/2018, a robbery occurred on 8th St S between 20th Ave S and 21st Ave S. The victim was walking east on 8th St S from 20th Ave when two individuals got out of a silver minivan and tried taking the victim’s bag and backpack, knocking the victim to the ground. When the victim refused to give the suspects their bag, the suspects kicked the victim two times. The suspects then took the victim’s bag and backpack and fled in the silver minivan.

SAFETY TIPS:
Keep your head up and always be aware of your surroundings
Do not walk with earbuds or headphones on so you can hear what is going on around you
Walk with a group, if possible
Call Public Safety immediately if you notice any suspicious behavior

STATUS: This incident is under investigation by the Minneapolis Police (MPD) and Augsburg University Public Safety (DPS). Anyone who may have information regarding this incident is urged to contact MPD or Augsburg DPS at 612-330-1717.

As a result, certain area 1-hour parking spaces (specifically the 2000 block of 6th Street) will be seeing targeted enforcement. Vehicles parked in 1-hour zones for longer than 1 hour without a critical parking sticker are highly likely to be ticketed in the upcoming weeks.

On Monday 10/08/18, DPS received a report of a robbery that occurred on 21st Ave S, near lots A and D. The victim was pushed to the ground and their phone was taken. The MN Urban Debate League, a program of Augsburg University, provides middle and high school students in the Twin Cities with year-round debate programming.

The nonprofit is looking for debate judges and hospitality volunteers for its upcoming high school debate tournaments.

No debate experience? No problem. We train volunteers at every tournament.

What Hospitality Volunteers Do:

● Greet & guide kids, coaches, and judges as they arrive at tournaments
● Answer questions and assist with wayfinding at tournament sites
● Distribute goody bags to students and thank-you gifts to our judges

What Judges Do:

● Watch rounds and evaluate teams on logic, argumentation, and public speaking.
● Provide written feedback and assign points to each debater.
● Choose the winner of each debate!

The City of Minneapolis Water Department will be replacing the main water meter in the Foss Lobeck Miles Center the morning of Thursday, August 23rd at approximately 6:30AM. It is estimated the building water will be off for 30 minutes to replace the meter. Our team will be onsite to make sure all the faucets and toilets are free from any obstructions after the completion of the replacement. In compliance with the “Timely Notice” provision of the federal Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act of 1998 Augsburg University Department of Public Safety is giving notice of a concerning incident that occurred on 22nd Ave in front of the Hagfors Center on the Minneapolis campus.

REPORTED OFFENSE: Robbery

Today, 08/17/2018, DPS received a report that at 3:10 PM on 8/17/2018, a robbery at gunpoint occurred on 21st Ave S in front of the Hagfors Center at Augsburg University. The victim, who is not affiliated with Augsburg, was sitting on the benches on the east side of the Hagfors Center looking at their phone. The victim was approached by two individuals, one put a gun to the victim’s head and demanded the victim’s property. A backpack, purse and cell phone were taken. The suspects fled to a black sedan parked on the east side of 22nd Ave S under the Hagfors Center skyway and left Northbound on 22nd Ave. There is no further suspect or vehicle description at this point.

If you have to move, tell the robber what you are doing and why. Try to get a good look at the robber so you can describe them later. Give the robber time to leave and note the direction they travel.

-After a Robbery – CALL DPS OR THE POLICE IMMEDIATELY. Try to recall as much as you can about the robber including physical description, clothing, speech and mannerisms.

On Thursday, August 9th, 2018 at approximately 7:00pm, a backpack was stolen from Oren Gateway Center. The theft was reported to Public Safety and we want to notify the community of the occurrence.

The department of Public Safety would like to notify you of a theft occurrence that happened on campus. In the Hagfors Center on Wednesday, June 13th, 2018 a laptop was stolen. The theft was reported to Public Safety as happening at approximately 2:45pm. The door to the space was reported as being propped open around the time of the theft.
