When in Doubt, Fill it Out – Fill Out Your Census Form

submitted by aoki@augsburg.edu

Make sure you’re counted! Students–fill out the census unless you’re certain someone else has already counted you on their form.

Got to 2020census.gov and fill out the form online. If there’s a question you’d rather not answer, skip it, but fill out the rest of the form. Responses are confidential–no law enforcement agencies are allowed access to these census forms.

If you’re living off-campus but not with your parents, you should fill out your own form. Students who lived on campus this semester will be counted by Res Life, so you don’t need to fill out a form. If you’re not certain if you’ve been counted–fill out a form! The Census Bureau would rather have people double-counted than missed.

Baccalaureate and Interfaith Sending Services

submitted by dames@augsburg.edu

Congratulations to all students graduating this spring from Augsburg University. Your achievement is especially notable in these challenging times. To mark the completion of your time at Augsburg, Campus Ministry is offering two online services that would usually have been held on campus. Everyone is invited to watch these two virtual services.

The first is our Baccalaureate Service, which is a festive service of music and word held for the graduating class, friends, and family members celebrating the completion of your studies at Augsburg and offering our blessings to you as you go out into the world. This is a Christian worship service, open to all. The online service this year will be slightly truncated, but it will still be filled with joy and thanksgiving. Pastor Babette Chatman serves as the preacher, President Paul Pribbenow offers a greeting, and a recording of the Augsburg Choir is offered to mark this occasion. https://youtu.be/uQWzzf-K9LY

You are also invited to watch the Interfaith Community Sending service. Graduating students of all religious and non-religious identities are invited to this interfaith service celebrating your educational journey. This service is a special time of reflection and blessing led by the Interfaith Scholar Cohort of 2019-20. https://youtu.be/uQWzzf-K9LY

We only forward 1st Class USPS mail and packages. Other packages (UPS, FedEx, Amazon, etc), magazines, non-profit mail and standard mail will not be forwarded. We can only forward to US addresses. The forwarding period is 2 months from when the request is submitted after which any additional mail we receive will be returned to sender.

We ask that you contact the people/business sending you mail and correcting it to your permanent address. Also enrolling in online/electronic billing is both environmentally friendly and will save you time (and sometimes money).

submitted by gocmen@augsburg.edu

In this episode of The Forum Podcast, Patricia Jesperson, chief curiosity officer at EmployeeEXP, and Amy Tolbert, ECCO International principal, explore the five critical leadership skills they’ve identified to help leaders transform into naturally inclusive leaders.

While emotional intelligence is an important skill when working with anyone different from ourselves, it’s only part of the inclusive leadership equation. Achieving an elevated state of self-awareness is key to developing leaders with capacity to embrace and effectively engage with the increasingly diverse workforce. The Inclusion Matrix™️ is designed for leaders—not only in title, but also those who demonstrate organizational influence.

Cloth Masks Must Be Worn On Campus

submitted by abounass@augsburg.edu

All staff, faculty and students MUST wear cloth face masks while in any common areas while on Augsburg property, based on Minnesota Department of Health guidelines for higher education. Resident students must wear them while out of their residence hall living spaces.
Cloth masks are in stock for critical staff and faculty and resident students. Contact Bryan Massich (massich@augsburg.edu) if you need one.
Wearing cloth masks does not replace the need to adhere to frequent hand washing, avoiding touching the face, and practicing social distancing, our best tools to help prevent the spread of illness.

The Stay Home executive order issued by Gov. Tim Walz continues. Fob access has been turned off except for those who have critical work on campus and resident students living on campus. Those who have access are asked to maintain social distancing. Go only where you need to go and only stay on campus to complete your critical tasks. Do not linger on campus. No guests are allowed. Augsburg is trying to minimize people gathering and help custodians focus on cleaning and disinfecting student residential spaces.

Employees who are entering a space that’s been marked cleaned and disinfected, please take the sign down and put in a work order to have it cleaned and disinfected again. If you plan to work multiple days in a row, please wait until your last visit to submit a work order.

The Forum Podcast, Ep. 31 – Master These Skills. Master Inclusive Leadership.

submitted by gocmen@augsburg.edu

ADSG 2020-2021 Resolution #1

submitted by musset@augsburg.edu

Good morning to all,

I hope everyone is doing well and staying safe.

On Wednesday, April 23rd, 2020, Augsburg Day Student Government passed a resolution titled Augsburg University International Students Responding to ISSS Department Restructuring.

This resolution was made for International Students who had their advisor Angela Bonfiglio laid off. With her absence, students began to feel like they lost their primary support and mentorship. This resolution demands Augsburg University to provide free housing to international students throughout the summer, provide summer jobs to those who have student visas, request for reinstatement of Angela Bonfiglio, and that ISSS be deemed as an official party recognized under the MSS roster.

Any questions or comments about this resolution, please let me know. You can contact me through my email ortizrg@augsburg.edu

Blessing to you all. Have a great weekend!!

ONE DAY IN MAY took place on May 15, 1968. During the turbulent aftermath of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Augsburg canceled classes to fully engage the school and community members on the issue of racism.

The extraordinary discourse surrounding ONE DAY IN MAY gave rise to subsequent advocacy work of marginalized students. These efforts have created a lasting impact that can be seen and felt on today’s Augsburg campus.

Faculty and Staff: Help URGO Recruit Students for Fulbright Program

submitted by kipperj@augsburg.edu

The Fulbright US Student Program offers college graduates the opportunity to participate in diplomacy in over 140 countries, teaching English, working on a Master’s degree, or performing research in any field.

We are asking faculty and staff to notify us of students and alumni who might be a good fit for this program. Depending on program type, students should be academically strong, have demonstrated leadership skills and a record of community engagement on campus or off. For the English Teaching Assistantship experience with tutoring, teaching or coaching is desirable, but no teaching coursework or degree is typically required. Foreign language skills are required in some countries but many countries do not require language skills.

If you know a student interested in this opportunity, please have them contact urgo@augsburg.edu for more information. All current students and recent alumni are welcome to inquire.

submitted by gocmen@augsburg.edu
