Cloth Masks Now Required at Augsburg; Governor’s Stay Home Order Extended Until May 4

submitted by abounass@augsburg.edu

Cloth masks are now required on campus. The Minnesota Department of Health has released updated masking guidelines for Institutes of Higher Education. All staff, faculty and students MUST wear cloth face masks while in any common areas while on Augsburg property. Resident students must wear them while out of their residence hall living spaces. Wearing cloth masks does not replace the need to adhere to frequent hand washing, avoiding touching the face, and practicing social distancing, which are our best tools to help prevent the spread of illness.

Critical employees who are entering a space that’s been marked cleaned and disinfected, please take the sign down and put in a work order to have it cleaned and disinfected. If you plan to work multiple days in a row, please wait until your last visit to submit a work order.

AAC Statement/Recommendation to Faculty

submitted by maherk@augsburg.edu

At its last meeting, AAC met via Zoom with student representative Miracle Adebanjo, who communicated that the transition to online teaching has prompted a deep and widespread sense of anxiety among the student body. In most cases students did not sign up for online classes, and most faculty have little experience teaching them. Many students are attempting to finish their semesters in challenging home environments, and some will unfortunately have to cope with dire financial or health crises. Given these unprecedented circumstances, the Academic Affairs Committee strongly urges all faculty to consider student work for the remainder of this semester with the maximum amount of flexibility, generosity, and–most of all–compassion. Some examples might include:
-accepting late work with little or no penalty
-relaxing attendance and participation policies
-grading on a curve

Campus Parking Update

Summer Housing Update

submitted by blom@augsburg.edu

We continue to closely monitor the impact of COVID-19 on our ability to provide summer housing. Due to the State-wide regulations put in place and to account for the safety of our community, summer housing will not be available to the Augsburg community other than those students who fit into the categories below AND currently live on campus.

The residence halls only remain open this summer for our resident students who currently reside on campus and are unable to find alternative housing for the following reasons:
1. International students
2. Students who have insecure housing
3. Students whose home is not safe
4. Students with health reasons

We are directing all students who do not currently live on campus and those who live on campus currently but fall outside of these four categories to pursue off campus options at this time.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Residence Life at residencelife@augsburg.edu for further information.

Tracking COVID-19 Expenses – Subobject 6457

submitted by stepanek@augsburg.edu

Subobject # 6457:

People should use the 6457 sub-object number when coding invoices and p-card expenses that are the result of Augsburg’s response to the coronavirus. Augsburg will need this information as it monitors the appropriate use of federal stimulus funds and other governmental aid, assesses the impact for insurance purposes, and reports the financial impact to the Board, bond holders and credit agencies. So, being thorough is very important.

If anyone runs into issues (e.g., a cost center not set up for subobjects), they can email Administrative Accounting (administrative.accounting.grp@augsburg.edu).

Thank you.

Status Update on Augsburg Events

submitted by cashdar@augsburg.edu

Augsburg University is not scheduling or rescheduling any in-person events at this time, as there is much uncertainty about when in-person events will again be safe in light of COVID-19. Event planners are reaching out to event hosts through August 31, 2020, to cancel, postpone, or discuss virtual options. Events scheduled after September 1, 2020, are tentative, unless the event host has already canceled on their own. Summer camps and conferences fall into a different category and planners will be reaching out to each camp and conference host in the next week.

We are scheduling virtual events. Please fill out an event form and a planner will be assigned to you. The planner will walk you through the virtual options and help determine the best fit.

This situation is rapidly evolving, so all conditions will be monitored and are subject to change. Updates will be provided as necessary.

We look forward to helping you design your virtual event.

Student Government COVID-19 Resolution

submitted by adebanjm@augsburg.edu

Greetings Augsburg Community. I hope all is well with you at this time and you have had a lovely Palm Sunday. I also pray you have a reason to smile on this blessed Miracle Monday morning.

Below you will find an all-important document attached. This document has been composed by Augsburg Day Student Government, but is based off of the information/opinions gathered from a campus-wide petition, extensive communication with student leaders, and a pair of submitted polls from the Day Student Body. This document was then discussed among a panel of ADSG’s finest constituents and voted upon last Friday, April 3rd.

ADSG is an administration initially established to further the educational goals and general welfare of the Augsburg community. We operate in all areas on campus, including environmental action, university finances, and immigration efforts.
My role as The Student Advocate deems me as the elected official to address student concerns; the elected official to serve as liaison for all students in need of representation.

In the first resolution, we came forward to show our support for Augsburg University’s decisions in light of this pandemic. We also came forward to make requests such as: The continuation of housing and dining services; Guaranteed pay for student workers scheduled on the week of march 23rd; Prorated refunds from meal plans, parking passes and residential housing; and the request for a Guaranteed Commencement ceremony once MDH Policy permits.

This next resolution also presents a set of requests, but they pertain more to the individual struggles we students are facing during this stay-at-home order. They include: an alternative and alleviated grading system; guaranteed pay for student workers; and reimbursement for students who already purchased a cap and gown.

Please click the link below, take the time to read said document, and reach out with any questions, comments, or concerns.

With Love,
Miracle Adebanjo
The Executive Board

Hello Everyone,

The Center for Wellness and Counseling staff has made changes regarding delivery of counseling services.

CWC counseling staff will not be offering in-person office appointments for the duration of spring semester. We are offering students 30- minute WELLNESS CONSULTATIONS by phone or by Zoom with a CWC counselor.

TO SCHEDULE A WELLNESS CONSULTATION with a CWC COUNSELOR, call Dianne Detloff at 612-330-1707 and leave a message with your name and phone number. For more information and resources on wellbeing and mental health, please access https://www.augsburg.edu/cwc/. Phone counseling from ProtoCall Services is available 24 hours a day by calling 612-330-1707 and pressing #1. Students will directly be connected with a mental health counselor from ProtoCall to discuss any personal or mental health concerns, including a crisis.

All of us at CWC look forward to supporting your wellbeing, the best that we can at this challenging time. We sincerely look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes and good health to you,

Want to support the Campus Cupboard?

submitted by jacobsn@augsburg.edu

Many folks in the Augsburg community have asked about donating to the Campus Cupboard. Thank you!

In order to continue stocking the Cupboard with high quality food (from our partner/supplier Loaves and Fishes), we will gladly accept monetary donations through Augsburg’s general donation page. Make sure to designate your donation to Other>Campus Kitchen. This is the best way to support us during this time, as we currently cannot accept food donations for health and safety reasons.
