You’re Invited! Judge Debates & Network with Students on May 21st!

The MN Urban Debate League is looking for financial professionals that identify as female or gender non-conforming to judge at our annual Financial Literacy Debate tournament this year!

You do not need debate experience to be a judge. We will provide training and opportunities to ask questions prior to the tournament, and will also be available to support you during the tournament.

Financial Literacy Debate is an innovative program that supports students’ public speaking, critical thinking, and financial literacy skills and knowledge. Our program works to close the gender gap in the financial sector by building the leadership and financial knowledge of high school participants that identify as female or gender non-conforming, through debate. Over the course of the initiative, students meet with their coach after school, learn about the topic area and fundamental economic concepts through an engaging curriculum, hold practice debates, and participate in a competition with other schools.

Our tournament this year is tentatively scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 21 from 9:30 am – 2:30 pm at Augsburg University. The tournament schedule will be as follows:

· 9:30 am: Judge training

· 10:00 am: Judge three debate rounds about the benefits/harms of cryptocurrency

· 1:00: Lunch and networking between students and financial professionals

· 2:00: Awards Ceremony

· 2:30: End

John Coskran, associate vice president and CFO, will present a review of Augsburg’s operating model and expense structure and an overview of the fiscal 2023 operating budget approved by the board of regents at its May meeting. John will also present some details of Augsburg’s operating model to provide context and background for the university’s operating budget.

During the June 9, 2020, town hall for faculty and staff, President Pribbenow announced seven new equity initiatives born out of response to the murder of George Floyd and Augsburg’s renewed commitment to accelerate and expand upon our university’s efforts to promote equity and inclusion during a national moment of racial and social justice reawakening. One of these initiatives was the requirement of Augsburg faculty and staff to complete an annual anti-racism training.

If you haven’t already attended the Augsburg University Annual Anti-Racism that took place this past fall or spring semester, you need to attend the make-up training taking place this Thursday, May 12 at 2:30–6:00 p.m. via Zoom.

Collaborative Gift for Incoming First-Year Students

Faculty, Staff and Administration,

Would you like to be a part of creating a collaborative gift for our incoming first year students?

Stop by our “Collaborative Workshop” on Wednesday, May 11th anytime between 2:00-4:30pm in Old Main 100 (Painting & Drawing Studio).

We will be creating a large painting (approximately 4-foot x 15-foot) together that will then be cut up into 500+ bookmarks for our incoming first-year students! This year at Opening Convocation, each first-year student will be provided a bookmark to keep as a welcome gift from all of us.

Purpose of May 11th Workshop: to be in community together, learn, experiment and collaborate on creating a gift for our incoming first-years.

Workshop Details:
Materials provided. No art experience required. Come and go as you please.

Purpose of Gift for Students: To create a sense of connection and belonging to our Augsburg community, to remind them that we are all here to support them.

As we near the end of another year please don’t forget to take care of your campus mailbox. This includes checking it for any mail, returning your lock and filing out the survey for what you would like us to do with your mail after this semester.

Two weeks after the spring semester ends (May 16, 2022) we will be closing all student campus boxes. Then before the fall semester starts we will reassign them (possible new numbers) to all students living on campus. Commuter students can then request to have a campus box if they would like one.

If you would like your mail forwarded or would like to keep your mailbox open for the summer, please either fill out this survey (https://forms.gle/872EQGhwK1tCWiPB6) or send us an email (mailship@augsburg.edu) with any relevant information. There is also an option to be reassigned your current campus box number for the next semester if you will be returning in the fall.

We are only able to forward 1st Class USPS mail and packages. Other packages (UPS, FedEx, Amazon, etc.), magazines, non-profit mail and standard mail will not be forwarded. We can also only forward to USA addresses. The forwarding period for the Augsburg Mailroom is two months from when the request is submitted. Afterward any additional mail we receive will be returned to sender.

We request that you contact the people/business sending you mail and update your address with them. Enrolling in online/electronic bills or statements can also be a smart option. It is environmentally friendly, secure and will often save you time (and sometimes money). Asking us to forward your mail does not change your mailing address with the post office or the University, just the Mailroom.

This session will explore elements of a successful diversity program and the first steps to get started. We will look at ways to stretch budgets by creating building blocks that can expand as resources allow.
Topics will include forming a DEI council, finding diversity champions, forming ERGs, diversity communication tips, engaging senior leaders, and how DEI education can be more than classroom-based learning. We’ll also cover techniques and tools for working in the virtual and hybrid environments.

You’re Invited! Judge Debates & Network with Students on May 21st!

The MN Urban Debate League is looking for financial professionals that identify as female or gender non-conforming to judge at our annual Financial Literacy Debate tournament this year!

You do not need debate experience to be a judge. We will provide training and opportunities to ask questions prior to the tournament, and will also be available to support you during the tournament.

Financial Literacy Debate is an innovative program that supports students’ public speaking, critical thinking, and financial literacy skills and knowledge. Our program works to close the gender gap in the financial sector by building the leadership and financial knowledge of high school participants that identify as female or gender non-conforming, through debate. Over the course of the initiative, students meet with their coach after school, learn about the topic area and fundamental economic concepts through an engaging curriculum, hold practice debates, and participate in a competition with other schools.

Our tournament this year is tentatively scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 21 from 9:30 am – 2:30 pm at Augsburg University. The tournament schedule will be as follows:

· 9:30 am: Judge training

· 10:00 am: Judge three debate rounds about the benefits/harms of cryptocurrency

· 1:00: Lunch and networking between students and financial professionals

· 2:00: Awards Ceremony

· 2:30: End

In celebration of the 52nd Earth Day, several Minnesota colleges and universities are collaborating to present a virtual week-long summit (4/16-4/24). How do we begin to heal from so much personal and global trauma? How do we look ahead with hope for future generations? Mother Earth knows the answer. We just need to be better listeners. We need to remember how to listen with our heart.

Beginning Saturday, April 16th and continuing through Sunday, April 24th, we will explore and honor our relationship with the land, our communities, and each other through a series of engaging presentations, discussions, film screenings, music, and activities. Inspired by diverse voices striving for justice, we remind ourselves of the importance of equitable solutions, both systemic and individual, that lift up all present and future human and more-than-human relatives. Caring for Mother Earth is caring for all of us.

12-1pm – Neurodiversity in Green Spaces
People with disabilities are disproportionately affected by climate change but are often underrepresented within the climate movement. While drawing from her own experiences with neurodiversity in private, educational, nonprofit, and movement spaces, Noelle Cirisan from MN350, will share what disabled individuals bring to the environmental spaces, and how the Disabled Community and environmental groups can work together to make inclusive spaces that advocate for a truly equitable environmental movement.

The Baccalaureate Service is a Christian service of celebration with music and word, held for the graduating class and their families, celebrating the completion of your studies at Augsburg. The service will be Sunday, April 24, @ 11am in Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center. Graduating students should wear their cap and gown and may sit with their family or guests in any available seats. At the end of the school year, Campus Ministry holds two special services for graduating seniors.

Interfaith Sending: Thursday, April 21 at 6:30 pm. This short service will be a special time of reflection and blessing. Graduating students of all religious and non-religious identities are invited to this interfaith service in Hoversten Chapel. This 45-minute service will be a special time of reflection and blessing. This service is led by the Interfaith Scholar Cohort. Blessing blankets will also be given at the Interfaith Sending. (One blanket per graduate, please).

The Baccalaureate Service is a Christian service of celebration with music and word, held for the graduating class and their families, celebrating the completion of your studies at Augsburg. This year the service will be Sunday, April 24, @ 11am in Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center. Graduating students should wear their cap and gown and may sit with their family or guests in any available seats. This year President Paul Pribbenow will give the homily and we will join with the Trinity Lutheran Congregation. At the Baccalaureate service, graduates will receive a blessing blanket.

In celebration of the 52nd Earth Day, several Minnesota colleges and universities are collaborating to present a virtual week-long summit (4/16-4/24). How do we begin to heal from so much personal and global trauma? How do we look ahead with hope for future generations? Mother Earth knows the answer. We just need to be better listeners. We need to remember how to listen with our heart.

Beginning Saturday, April 16th and continuing through Sunday, April 24th, we will explore and honor our relationship with the land, our communities, and each other through a series of engaging presentations, discussions, film screenings, music, and activities. Inspired by diverse voices striving for justice, we remind ourselves of the importance of equitable solutions, both systemic and individual, that lift up all present and future human and more-than-human relatives. Caring for Mother Earth is caring for all of us.

You’re Invited! Judge Debates & Network with Students on May 21st!

The MN Urban Debate League is looking for financial professionals that identify as female or gender non-conforming to judge at our annual Financial Literacy Debate tournament this year!

You do not need debate experience to be a judge. We will provide training and opportunities to ask questions prior to the tournament, and will also be available to support you during the tournament.

Financial Literacy Debate is an innovative program that supports students’ public speaking, critical thinking, and financial literacy skills and knowledge. Our program works to close the gender gap in the financial sector by building the leadership and financial knowledge of high school participants that identify as female or gender non-conforming, through debate. Over the course of the initiative, students meet with their coach after school, learn about the topic area and fundamental economic concepts through an engaging curriculum, hold practice debates, and participate in a competition with other schools.

Our tournament this year is tentatively scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 21 from 9:30 am – 2:30 pm at Augsburg University. The tournament schedule will be as follows:

· 9:30 am: Judge training

· 10:00 am: Judge three debate rounds about the benefits/harms of cryptocurrency

· 1:00: Lunch and networking between students and financial professionals

· 2:00: Awards Ceremony

· 2:30: End

Hear from the Assistant to the Director for Diversity Equity and Inclusion from the Missouri Department of Conservation, Chris Kennedy, David Syckle, II, descendant of the Oneida Nation of Thames in Ontario, former Water Quality Specialist for the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe of Michigan, and Dexter Armstrong, Park Ranger at Great Smoky Mountains National Park with the National Parks Service. They will provide insight into how they got their start working for the State of Missouri, an Indigenous Native American Tribe and the Federal System respectively. A question and answer session will follow for participants to ask questions of the speakers regarding their experience and insights to the job application process with these agencies. All are welcome.
