Sign Petition to end ‘Coyote Whacking’

submitted by braverme@augsburg.edu

Coyotes in WY and other western states have no protection at all … everything goes. We also have anecdotal evidence that hunters in Montana enjoy chasing and running over coyotes with their recreational vehicles.

‘Yote Whackin’ includes coyote killing contests with snowmobiles.

Please sign this petition to demand that the state of Wyoming immediately provide protection for predators and prohibit atrocious behavior such as coyote/predator killing contests, and chasing and running over coyotes (or any wild animal) with any vehicle, including aircrafts, ATVs, ORVs, cars and snowmobiles.

Never guess on punctuation, grammar, or spelling again—introducing the Editorial Style Guide

submitted by weirick@augsburg.edu

OK, o.k., or okay?
And, &, or +?

Those may seem like small differences, but what about others like:
–How do we abbreviate academic degrees?
–Where are commas, colons, and exclamation points appropriate?
–What’s an en dash and an em dash, and how are those used differently than hyphens?
–What terms do we use instead of “freshman,” “chairman,” and “very”?

The marketing department created the Augsburg University and Luther Seminary Editorial Style Guide so you don’t have to guess about spelling, grammar, punctuation, and common terms used around the university. Because Augsburg and Luther marketing and communication staff work together through a shared services agreement, this style guide is designed for use at both institutions.

Especially if you write to students, alumni, donors, or other external audiences on behalf of Augsburg, the style guide is an essential tool to polish your message.

Bookmark the marketing webpage for convenient access to the style guide.

Biology Student and Professor Publish Paper

Here’s a blurb for Amail:
Professor Emily Schilling and senior Biology major Holly Kundel just had an article published in the International Journal of Odonatology. The paper is a review of the reproductive habitat requirements of a rare and threatened North American dragonfly species, the spatterdock darner. Holly has been conducting research in Dr. Schilling’s lab since the summer after her first year at Augsburg, and she is currently applying to graduate programs in Ecology and Conservation Science. Dr. Schilling continues to pursue research questions related to dragonflies common to naturally fishless lakes and ponds in Minnesota. Important Payroll Information–Log Your Hours

submitted by ueckerk@augsburg.edu

Students, staff and supervisors should ensure you are able access and approve time around the holiday break so everyone is paid appropriately and timely.
• The first pay date of 2019 is 01/04/2019, this is for hours worked 12/16 – 12/29.
• Hours worked should be logged daily.
• The time entry deadline is still 2pm Monday, December 31st. This is a holiday and all time cards will be submitted automatically by the system. Unless working the weekend, all hours should be logged and submitted Friday, December 28th.
• Supervisors will need to approve the time cards by 10am on Wednesday, January 2nd – extended due to the holiday on Tuesday, January 1st. This will create a shorter processing time, so it is appreciated if all time is approved by the deadline of 10am. Time can also be approved any time after 2pm on Monday prior to the deadline. Time not approved could result in your employee NOT being paid timely.

If you need any further assistance please contact Payroll at payroll@augsburg.edu. Thank you and have a safe and happy holiday!

TODAY – Last Chance – 12 Days of Gratitude

submitted by whitneyr@augsburg.edu

Calling all Auggies!! Share what you are grateful for during 12 Days of Gratitude.

Augsburg’s virtual gratitude jar will be open until the end of the day today, December 21st, for all Auggies to share what they are grateful for–big or small. Statements of gratitude made here will be shared at the start of 2019 through Augsburg Wellbeing (hint, hint: we’re re-branding!). This will give us a moment to reflect on the good, and feel grateful for what was, while looking forward to 2019. Gratitude statements will be shared anonymously unless otherwise requested by the statement writer.

Examples of gratitude statements (obviously, specific to me–yours will look different!): I am grateful for my HR team and all the work they do to support Augsburg.
