The MINNE Holocaust Fellows program selects college students to participate in a fully-paid, one-day trip to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. to acquire a more in-depth knowledge of the Holocaust. Fellows tour the permanent exhibits and featured exhibits, as well as meet with a museum representative. Awards come through the MINNE Fund of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation, who has chosen Augsburg to be one of the select universities to participate in the program.

The 2023 trip will take place on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. Applications due February 7, 2023 and can be found at https://jewishminneapolis.org/minne/. If you would like to learn more about the program or would like advising on the application, please contact the URGO office at urgo@augsburg.edu.

The Voyager Scholarship for Public Service includes:
– Up to $50,000 in financial aid: Students will receive up to $25,000 per year in “last dollar” financial aid for their junior and senior years of college.
– Summer Voyage: Students will receive a $10,000 stipend and Airbnb credit to pursue a summer work-travel experience between their junior and senior year of college.
– Fall Summit: Each fall, students will be invited to a summit to help define and inspire their public service journey.
– Network of leaders: Throughout the program, students will be invited to an ongoing speaker series, giving them access to a network of leaders.
– 10-year travel stipend: After graduation, Airbnb will provide the students with a $2,000 Airbnb travel credit every year for 10 years, totaling $20,000. This will allow students to continue to broaden their horizons and forge new connections throughout their public service careers.

Eligibility:
– Have four (4) semesters left as of Spring 2023
– Have a minimum grade point average of 3.0
– Demonstrate financial need
– Have demonstrated a commitment to public service
– Plan to pursue a career in public service upon graduation

Our students are struggling with increasingly complex needs and demands, many of which can create barriers and challenges to academic success. Further, because faculty see their students regularly, they are often the first to notice that a student is struggling. This session will focus on helping faculty to identify students in distress by increasing awareness of signs of struggle. We will then share strategies and resources for supporting students when you notice they are struggling.

Student-faculty research teams are encouraged to submit proposals immediately. The URGO Advisory Committee will review proposals on a rolling basis.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH PROGRAM: All disciplines welcome
The URGO Summer Research Program is an 11-week, on-campus program (May 15th – July 28th) where students are funded to conduct research with a faculty mentor. Students receive support throughout the research process from their faculty mentor, a Speaker Series, and weekly seminars with fellow researchers. URGO provides full-time summer researchers (400 hours) with a $6,000 stipend and housing discount while half-time researchers (200 hours) receive a $3,000 stipend and a housing discount.

URGO SUMMER RESEARCH ASSISTANTSHIPS
URGO also provides funding for students to work for a professor as a research assistant on an ongoing research project. This is a 100-hour commitment over the course of the summer and comes with a $1,500 stipend. This is an excellent opportunity to try out research for the first time or focus on a specific aspect of a research project.

Phase 1 of the applications are due February 9th at 11:59 PM, so start talking with your faculty members to learn about what research or creative activity is going on in your department!

Having an option (or two) for backups is essential to ensure that you don’t lose your hard work if your hard drive fails, lose your device, have your device stolen, or get a malware infection that takes your files hostage.

Below we will provide some options for backing up files. Please feel free to contact your LFC or IDT at any time for further support with any of these options

1) Back up to Google Drive. All faculty, staff, and students are provided with Google Drive associated with their Augsburg email address. In general, using this as a tool when creating and working on files instead of working and saving directly from the desktop works very well. The files will save to the drive automatically and can be accessed through any device (personal computer, phone, instructor computer in the classroom, etc.)

2) Use Facstaff and Orgs for file storage. Refer to the weekly eLearning update for more information on how to set this up, or make an appointment with your LFC to set up this option.

The Interfaith Scholars program is one of two Public Leader Scholar opportunities being offered AY 2023. Interfaith Scholars will be taught by Interfaith Institute’s Executive Directors Najeeba Syeed, and offers students a unique opportunity to explore how their worldview/faith(s) shapes them as leaders, as well as build their leadership skills to engage across difference.

The Voyager Scholarship gives college students financial aid to alleviate the burden of college debt, meaningful travel experiences to expand their horizons, and a network of mentors and leaders to support them. Scholars will receive up to $25,000 per year in “last dollar” financial aid for their junior and senior years of college, alleviating the burden of college debt so that students can afford to pursue a career in public service. During the summer between junior and senior year scholars are given $10,000 for an internship or public service activity they create, along with $4,400 in Airbnb housing credit. After graduation, Airbnb will provide the students with a $2,000 travel credit every year for 10 years, totaling $20,000. This will allow students to continue to broaden their horizons and forge new connections throughout their public service careers.

The MINNE Holocaust Fellows program selects college students to participate in a fully-paid, one-day trip to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. to acquire a more in-depth knowledge of the Holocaust. Fellows tour the permanent exhibits and featured exhibits, as well as meet with a museum representative. Awards come through the MINNE Fund of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation, who has chosen Augsburg to be one of the select universities to participate in the program.

The 2023 trip will take place on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. Applications due February 7, 2023 and can be found at https://jewishminneapolis.org/minne/. If you would like to learn more about the program or would like advising on the application, please contact the URGO office at urgo@augsburg.edu.

Further, because faculty see their students regularly, they are often the first to notice that a student is struggling. Phillips Scholars create and test innovative ideas that address community problems — running their own summer programming. There’s support along the way, with the students coming together to develop their leadership skills and prepare for their projects. Scholars receive more than $9,000 in scholarships and stipends. Ten students from 15 eligible Minnesota private colleges and universities will be selected each year.

Applications are due February 24, 2023.

You’re eligible if you:
– Are enrolled full-time in the undergraduate program
– Demonstrate financial need
– Are a first-year, sophomore or junior in the spring of 2023

The microphone tool in Moodle allows you to add comments when grading, in the announcement forum, and anywhere you see the content editor toolbar. This type of delivery conveys tone more effectively than text. It is possible to record audio comments from the Moodle app on a phone as well, allowing one to move around while grading.

VoiceThread
Presentation material is often delivered in a one-way communication method (instructor to student). Consider VoiceThread as an alternative that can engage students through collaborative and interactive multimedia slideshows that support images, documents, and videos. We’re looking for at least 11 mentors to “match” with our mentees – mostly first and second year assistant professors.

The basic requirements to be considered as a mentor are (1) you must be a current, tenured member of the Augsburg Faculty and (2) have a general understanding of how the University “works” beyond your department. If you are interested, please complete the short “Application of Interest” posted below no later than Monday, January 23rd (the form also contains more information). All selected members are required to attend Mentor Orientation on the afternoon of Thursday, January 26th.

The NASA Space Grant scholarship program supports the advancement of academically focused undergraduates seeking professional careers in the natural sciences, especially Space Physics & Engineering, Mathematics, and Science/Mathematics Education.

The MINNE Holocaust Fellows program selects college students to participate in a fully-paid, one-day trip to the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington D.C. to acquire a more in-depth knowledge of the Holocaust. Fellows tour the permanent exhibits and featured exhibits, as well as meet with a museum representative. Awards come through the MINNE Fund of the Minneapolis Jewish Federation, who has chosen Augsburg to be one of the select universities to participate in the program.

The 2023 trip will take place on Tuesday, March 28, 2023. Applications due February 7, 2023 and can be found at https://jewishminneapolis.org/minne/. If you would like to learn more about the program or would like advising on the application, please contact the URGO office at urgo@augsburg.edu.

While in New Orleans, we will be partnering with Rebuilding New Orleans Together, an organization whose goal is to improve the quality of life of low-income homeowners, particularly those who are elderly, disabled, veterans, or single head of households with minor children. Augsburg Campus Ministries invites you to participate in an alternative spring break trip to New Orleans, Louisiana. While in New Orleans, we will be partnering with Rebuilding New Orleans Together, an organization whose goal is to improve the quality of life of low-income homeowners, particularly those who are elderly, disabled, veterans, or single head of households with minor children. We will be repairing homes and will have time to explore the city!
Registration: Registration is open for Alternative Spring Break. $100 fee due upon registration

Complete registration form 2023 Registration
Bring $100 registration fee and copy of health insurance card to Janice Dames in Campus Ministry Office, 104 Foss
Dates of Trip: March 11-18, 2023
Destination: New Orleans, Louisiana
Cost: $275, includes lodging, transportation, and most meals. Please register by February 17, 2023. Please let us know if the cost presents a barrier to participation for you.
