Riverside Innovation Hub’s Cohort Springtime Learnings: A Time for Slowly Being Led by the Spirit

Our Riverside Innovation Hub Lead Facilitator Geoffrey Gill reflects on the past month’s cohort meetings with congregations. Geoffrey shares wisdom and learnings from these important gatherings.
As we breathe into the fullness of spring and our work becomes more and more rooted, it is clear that this work requires us to slow down, to be patient and to move at the pace of a growing flower. It may look slow and arduous at times, and this is the work of sowing seeds; we are like community gardeners for the public church and we are learning that this project moves at the pace of building trustworthy relationships. You can’t force this to work, and you can’t just bypass any important part because it makes you uncomfortable or you don’t understand it. What I’m finding inside of most congregations is this sense of needing things to speed up, there is this deep eagerness to spring forth and jump into action. And on the other hand God is calling us to slow down. Yes, move forward and take action, and don’t move so fast that you can’t smell the spring flowers. Don’t move so fast that you forget or bypass why you’re even doing this work. This time and space of work requires us to trust the flow of the process; to do all we can and then let the spirit do what it’s capable of doing.
So, In-between our large learning events RIH hosts smaller cohort meetings. These meetings focus on the art forms of the public church framework. All of the cohorts met this April. The intentions of these meetings were to build and deepen relational trust, reflect on the process of sharing learnings with the leadership in each congregation and expand more into the art form: interpretation.

Augsburg’s “3 Days in May” is an annual Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) event focused on providing professional development opportunities (and socializing) designed for Augsburg teaching faculty and staff. However, all members of the Augsburg community are welcome! This year’s “3 Days” will take place Tuesday, May 10th – Thursday May 12th from 9am – 4pm in the Hagfors Center.

Clinical Psychology PsyD program Receives Accreditation

The Commission of Accreditation voted to grant the PsyD program ” accredited (on contingency)” status effective December 8, 2021. Doctoral programs “accredited, on
contingency” must provide outcome data for students in the program and program graduates within 3 years of receiving that status. These data must be provided in an updated self-study due by September 1, 2024. Upon review of the updated self-study, a site visit may be approved and the program will be reviewed for full accreditation status.

New May Workshops for Full-Time faculty Anti-Racist Pedagogy

The Center for Teaching and Learning, supported Critical Race and Ethnicity Studies (CRES) donor funds, has designed a two-day Anti-Racist Pedagogy workshop for full-time faculty at Augsburg. This workshop is offered to encourage faculty to further develop their knowledge and skills in evidence-based, anti-racist pedagogy. Because this is a pilot, CTL is limiting the number of participants to 10. Participants will be selected based on their responses to a short application (see link below).
All selected participants will receive a $1000 stipend to (1) participate in the 2-day workshop Tuesday May 17 through Wednesday May 18, 2022 (10:00am to 2:00pm each day; lunch included) and (2) complete a self-determined “final project”. Applicants who are proposing to work on a course scheduled for Fall 2022 and/or who have completed the Augsburg University Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program will be given priority.

Summer course: Writing for Television – Apply Now

Do you love watching television and have ever wondered how the creators wrote their pilot for that hit TV show you love to watch? Or, are you a writer in a different medium and have always wanted to try your hand at writing for television?
Grow your writing skills this summer with the course PWC 320 “Writing for Television”. This intensive course will be modeled on a professional writer’s room and as such all students will be required to actively participate. Students will be expected to participate in the development and breaking of story while learning to pitch ideas, create outlines, and reading and providing feedback on your colleagues’ work. Each of these steps will be instrumental in aiding you with creating your own pilot!
This course is taught through Augsburg University’s partnership with the nationally acclaimed Playwrights’ Center.

Summer Course: Writing for Television – Apply Now

Do you love watching television and have ever wondered how the creators wrote their pilot for that hit TV show you love to watch? Or, are you a writer in a different medium and have always wanted to try your hand at writing for television?
Grow your writing skills this summer with the course PWC 320 “Writing for Television”. This intensive course will be modeled on a professional writer’s room and as such all students will be required to actively participate. Students will be expected to participate in the development and breaking of story while learning to pitch ideas, create outlines, and reading and providing feedback on your colleagues’ work. Each of these steps will be instrumental in aiding you with creating your own pilot!
This course is taught through Augsburg University’s partnership with the nationally acclaimed Playwrights’ Center.
WRITING FOR TELEVISION: Writing the Television Pilot, PWC 320
DATES: June 4 – July 30
(Please note that the course dates do not correspond to the Summer Semester Time 1 and Time 2 schedules. For drop/withdrawal dates, see the course description details in Records and Registration.)
INSTRUCTOR: Taught by Christina Ham, a highly awarded and prolific writer for both stage and screen, including Sweet Tooth for Netflix, THEM for Amazon, and Westworld for HBO. She was named one of “The Top 20 Most-Produced Playwrights of the 2018-19 Season” by American Theatre magazine.
COST: standard summer tuition rate for 4 credits: $1,704

New May Workshop For Full-Time Faculty: Anti-Racist Pedagogy

The Center for Teaching and Learning, supported Critical Race and Ethnicity Studies (CRES) donor funds, has designed a two-day Anti-Racist Pedagogy workshop for full-time faculty at Augsburg. This workshop is offered to encourage faculty to further develop their knowledge and skills in evidence-based, anti-racist pedagogy. Because this is a pilot, CTL is limiting the number of participants to 10. Participants will be selected based on their responses to a short application (see link below).
All selected participants will receive a $1000 stipend to (1) participate in the 2-day workshop Tuesday May 17 through Wednesday May 18, 2022 (10:00am to 2:00pm each day; lunch included) and (2) complete a self-determined “final project”. Applicants who are proposing to work on a course scheduled for Fall 2022 and/or who have completed the Augsburg University Diversity and Inclusion Certificate Program will be given priority.

ED Talk April 13: Addressing the Faculty and Staff’s Stress and Burnout in Music Therapy

Under the COVID-19 pandemic situation, many faculty and staff are experiencing a high level of stress and burnout. Finding ways to address this issue is crucial for their overall well-being, and it will positively affect the work and learning environment for all. In this in-person ED Talk, three music therapy faculty will facilitate a mini music therapy session, demonstrating how music can be used to address stress and burnout. An information sheet that contains various ways of using music will be offered as well.
CTL will offer ED Talks (based on the concept of TED Talks) before each faculty meeting from 3:10-3:30pm in Hagfors 151. This year’s theme is “The Future of the Professoriate at Augsburg”, and 2021-2022 Ed talks will be framed under this broad theme that speaks to our “new normal” and beyond.
