Minneapolis Moment Theatre Project

submitted by lewisgg@augsburg.edu

Do you have something to say in the aftermath of the murder of George Floyd? Do you have questions about how we exist in the Twin Cities after the killings of Philando Castile, Jamar Clark, Brian Quinones, Terrance Franklin, Alfred Abuka Sanders, Cordale Handy, Phil Quinn, Tycel Nelson, Isak Aden, Fong Lee, and others? Do you have concerns about the United States after the deaths of Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Freddie Gray, Botham Jean, and more?

Make your voice heard! Join the Minneapolis Moment!

The Minneapolis Moment is a one-minute play project attempting to continue dialogue rooted in the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis and the resulting uprisings in a time of pandemic and divisive federal elections. We’ll borrow the model of the Every 28 Hours Plays to create, select, and perform one-minute plays over Zoom or other video media to share with the Augsburg and Minneapolis communities.

The Minneapolis Moment will engage student, staff, and faculty in order to perform selected one-minute plays from the Every 28 Hours Plays and to write and perform new one-minute plays based on experiences since the murder of George Floyd. The goal is to facilitate critical dialogue and reflection by providing multiple viewpoints and multiple experiences.

The design of the project allows participants to start working in December 2020 and continue into the spring semester of 2021 with three or four performances building on each other and able to be broadcast virtually to be in alignment with essential health measures to protect against the pandemic. The idea is to have three or four performances with several one-minute plays and then ultimately to collect and edit them into one larger video. Participants can be involved in only one writing and performance cycle or in them all—it will be up to them. All Augsburg students, staff, and faculty will be welcome to participate.

Google Shared Drives – Move entire folders, manage folder level permissions

submitted by vachta@augsburg.edu

Google has enabled the ability to move entire folders from your personal Google Drive to a shared Google Drive and manage folder level permissions on shared drives. Up until recently files had to be transferred individually between drives, making for a very arduous process. Now entire folders, including folders containing nested folders or Google-type documents can be transferred.

Departments are encouraged to use Google shared drives for storing files because they are not tied to one singular owner, simplifying employee departures. For more information please contact your LFC.

Announcing “Murphy Square 1975-2020: A Sesquicentennial Sampler of Literature by Augsburg Students”

submitted by green@augsburg.edu

The English Department is pleased to announce the publication of “Murphy Square 1975-2020: A Sesquicentennial Sampler of Literature by Augsburg Students.” Over 40 recent students in ENL 420 from 2016 through 2019 served as co-editors, haggling over selections drawn from the entire digital archive of MSq.  Alum Megan Johnson designed the volume and layout. I think you’ll find some old friends here.

We probably won’t get a print version till after the pandemic.  We hope, in the meantime, you will dip in and enjoy bits of Augsburg’s literary history.

New Test Free Admission Policy

submitted by ross@augsburg.edu

Augsburg University will shift to a Test-Free Admissions Policy as the pandemic has added more risks and restrictions to test taking meaning test scores will not be used in making admission and scholarship decisions.

The policy takes effect immediately for the 2021 and fall 2022 application cycles, which is the remainder of a previous four-year pilot test-optional admissions policy.

This also aligned with Augsburg‘s holistic admissions process, which looks at quantitative metrics and beyond. The application-review process allows Augsburg to maintain the university’s academic standards and ensure the university admits students with the capacity to succeed here.

Augsburg introduced a faculty-approved test-optional admissions policy in April 2018. Submission of ACT or SAT test scores for admission became optional starting in fall 2019 for incoming undergraduate (first-year and transfer) student applicants.

Help Serve a Meal to People Experiencing Homelessness

submitted by clarkk@augsburg.edu

The Augsburg Central Health Commons is looking for people interested in helping serve a community meal at Central Lutheran Church. Because of the constraints of Covid, only a certain amount of guests can enter the building at a time. And, with the cold upon us, we are trying to explore ways to allow more guests to come indoors and enjoy eating their meal inside the building. We can’t do this without more help. The meal is served Mondays 11am-2pm. Volunteer sign up’s and details can be found here https://volunteersignup.org/events/summary/165623. For questions or to explore other ways involved, email Katie at clarkk@augsburg.edu.

Noise-Cancelling Headphones and WACOM Pen Tablets Available for Student Checkout in Library

submitted by krajewsk@augsburg.edu

This fall Augsburg has received a grant from the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief Fund (GEER) to provide technology resources to students in need with a particular focus on “students who are identified as Indigenous or a Person of Color, need accessible services, and/or are PELL eligible.” We have used the past few weeks to give priority access to such students. Now we’re moving into the phase where all students can check out this technology.

At the Library circulation desk you will find

– COWIN E7 Wireless Bluetooth Headphones (especially good for students with sensory needs or Zooming in a noisy environment)
– WACOM One Pen Tablets (used in math and sciences for equations and diagrams or Art for digital sketching)

Both items have a semester-long checkout period. We have limited quantities of each. No reservations required. These are available as first-come first-checkout items now.
