The Human Resources team is excited to announce that Sophia Park joined Augsburg on Monday, June 8 as our new Benefits and Payroll Specialist! Sophia comes directly from the JW Marriott Hotel in Minneapolis as their HR Generalist. Her background also includes working with Doctors Without Borders and Sanofi in diverse HR positions. Sophia graduated from the Sookmyung Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea, with degree in Law and Real Estate. Sophia joined Augsburg University to contribute her skills to society and expand her career in HR in a mission-based organization. Sophia also teaches Korean language at Korean American Association of Minnesota. When not working, she enjoys spending time with her husband and 6 months old son, traveling and taking walks. Along with the HR and Payroll team, Sophia is working remotely and can be reached at parkso@augsburg.edu. Please join our team in welcoming Sophia, and more information will be coming soon regarding exciting changes to the HR team to better serve the Augsburg community!

The Minnesota Department of Health has recommended COVID 19 testing for “People who have participated in any large gatherings including but not limited to protests, community clean up and recovery efforts, vigils, neighborhood defense meetings (both those with symptoms and those who are asymptomatic.”

The People’s Center on Riverside, just a few blocks from Augsburg does Covid 19 testing. The People’s Center accepts most insurances (please confirm in advance with your insurance company).

Augsburg has canceled classes and suspended operations for both Thursday and Friday, June 4 and 5, 2020. Thursday is an important day for our community, as a memorial service for George Floyd will be held from 1-3 p.m. at North Central University. Augsburg will continue essential operations on Thursday and Friday, but leaders in those areas have been asked to ensure that staff in those departments also are provided time away. Normal class schedules and our COVID-19 modified operations will resume on Monday, June 8, 2020.

For the fiscal year-end close on May 31, 2020, it is important that all expenses, including equipment, supplies, travel, and services rendered during the fiscal year 2020 are properly recorded and accrued as part of the year-end accounting close. In order to assure a “clean” year-end close, the following documents need to be submitted in a timely fashion as noted below.

Invoices, Expense Reports and Payment Authorization Forms:
Please submit invoices, related to equipment, supplies, and services received, expense reports and payment authorization forms on or before May 31, 2020 by Monday, June 8, 2020. All expenses need tohave proper coding and approvals.

Please email invoices to accountspayable@augsburg.edu, or fax to 612-330-1515, or drop them off at the Business Office, Science Building Suite 148. If you are coming into
your office please check for invoices that may have been delivered to your office and forward them to the Business Office.

P-Card Purchase and Reimbursement Expenses:
Please submit P-Card statements and receipts for expenses incurred through May 31, 2020 by Monday, June 8, 2020. Email your statement and receipts to urchasecard@augsburg.edu.

Year-end Accrual Procedure:
If you have not received an invoice from a vendor for goods or services received or delivered by May 31, please contact Carole Kampf by Monday, June 8, 2020.

Checks and Cash:

The McNair Scholars Program helps students reach their graduate school goals by offering a unique research experience during their undergraduate degree. Participating students spend an average of 400 hours exploring their topics, developing a thesis, collecting and reviewing data, and preparing a formal presentation of their findings. Research provides the opportunity to develop a mentoring relationship by working one-on-one with a faculty member; gaining extensive skills and knowledge in a discipline; exposure to methodological techniques; writing and public speaking practice by submitting papers to professional conferences and journals; and attaining strong letters of recommendation.

We are seeking iPhone users to participate in an online research study (IRB-#2020-08-02). We hope to better understand how people use their phones, are coping with the COVID-19 pandemic, and display individual differences in personality and well-being.

The study involves four 30-minute surveys to be completed over the course of a month, one survey a week. Participants will receive up to a $25 e-gift card for participating in this study.

For the fiscal year-end close on May 31, 2020, it is important that all expenses, including equipment, supplies, travel, and services rendered during the fiscal year 2020 are properly recorded and accrued as part of the year-end accounting close. Please submit invoices, related to equipment, supplies, and services received, expense reports and payment authorization forms on or before May 31, 2020 by Monday, June 8, 2020. All expenses need tohave proper coding and approvals.

Please email invoices to accountspayable@augsburg.edu, or fax to 612-330-1515, or drop them off at the Business Office, Science Building Suite 148. If you are coming into
your office please check for invoices that may have been delivered to your office and forward them to the Business Office.

P-Card Purchase and Reimbursement Expenses:
Please submit P-Card statements and receipts for expenses incurred through May 31, 2020 by Monday, June 8, 2020. Email your statement and receipts to urchasecard@augsburg.edu.

Year-end Accrual Procedure:
If you have not received an invoice from a vendor for goods or services received or delivered by May 31, please contact Carole Kampf by Monday, June 8, 2020.

The Strommen Center conducted a student employment survey of day undergraduate students from April 29 through May 11, 2020. The purpose of the survey was to understand how COVID-19 has impacted student employment and experiential learning opportunities for the spring semester and the summer. 151 students completed the survey.

Of the students that responded:
1) 46% lost a summer job, internship, or other volunteer experience
2) 61% are now seeking a job, internship, or other opportunity this summer
3) Loss of income was selected as a stressor by the most students followed by lack of quiet and secluded space to do work and participate in Zoom meetings and classes
4) Lack of quiet space and increased responsibilities at home were stressors selected by the most students that might prevent them from securing a job, internship, or other opportunity this summer
5) Mental and emotional wellbeing programs were selected by many students when asked what programs and services would be most helpful this summer.

Encourage students to:

2. Campus Box Closing/Forwarding. Two weeks after the spring semester ends (May 15th) we will be closing all student campus boxes. See mail forwarding info.

I want to publicly thank and recognize the entire CWC staff for their work in supporting students in their wellbeing and student success. The staff connects with other departments on campus, as well as in the community. The strengths of each individual combine together for a strong team and is needed to uphold our responsibilities to students. I am grateful for the dedication of each person and for the work of the team. This year, CWC staff met with a record number of students in a great time of change. In 2019-2020, the CWC staff provided individual counseling for 384 students and 2135 counseling sessions were attended in person or on zoom.

In addition, there was educational outreach to the Augsburg community in many ways – through EPIC Peer Educators, Health Fairs, Stress Workshops, and other venues. A new group on life skills was created and well received by students. The partnerships with other services in academic and student affairs and with faculty are something we want to celebrate and to grow. I am grateful for the contributions of each one of the CWC staff members.

Good health and best wishes to all of you at Augsburg, as we conclude another academic year.

Our doors may be locked, but Lindell Library collections and services are fully accessible online. All electronic resources – databases, ebooks, and streaming audio and video services – are available 24/7.

Books may be requested for curbside pickup or delivery via US mail. Laptops and other equipment may be picked up onsite 9 AM – 5 PM Monday – Friday.
