All students, faculty, and staff in Minneapolis and Rochester soon will receive one face mask. Those in Minneapolis also will receive one personal hand sanitizer in time for the beginning of the fall semester. Hand sanitizer refill stations will be located at Minneapolis campus building entrances. Classes start September 2. Effective July 25, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz mandated face coverings be worn in all public indoor spaces and indoor businesses, as well as outdoors when physical distancing is not possible to maintain. All students, staff, faculty, and visitors must wear face coverings in any common areas while on Augsburg property. Outdoors, this means anytime you are within 6’ of other people, you must be wearing a face covering. Indoors, this means the only places you may be without a face covering on campus is alone within your personal office (or students within their residential unit), or in dining spaces while eating or drinking. We recommend having multiple face coverings (3-5 or more cloth coverings is ideal) that you keep in convenient places—your car, office, and in your bag/backpack. Using cloth coverings enables you to wash them regularly so you always have a clean face covering available.

Face Covering Requirements and Recommendations under Executive Order 20-81
submitted by rjohn@augsburg.edu
On Wednesday, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz issued an executive order requiring face coverings be worn in public indoor spaces, and other situations, in the State of Minnesota. The executive order, which goes into effect tonight at 11:59 p.m., is consistent with Augsburg’s current policy on face coverings.
A link to the full executive order is below. Following are several of the key provisions:
>>Face coverings must be worn in all business and public indoor spaces or when waiting in line outside. This includes higher education.
>>Face coverings must be worn outdoors in situations where physical distancing cannot be maintained.
>>Face coverings must be worn on public transit and in other various shared transportation scenarios.
>>Scenarios where temporary removal of face coverings (e.g., eating, exercising) are noted.
>>Face shields are allowed as alternatives to face coverings in some classroom situations.
>>Businesses should allow alternative face coverings (e.g., face shields) or provide alternative services for those unable to wear a face covering.
>>Face coverings are not required for people alone in an office or cubicle with high walls or alone in a personal vehicle.
Augsburg’s face covering policy requires that all staff, faculty, and students wear face coverings while in any common areas while on Augsburg property. Resident students must wear face coverings while out of their residence hall living spaces. Cloth masks are in stock for critical staff and faculty and resident students. Augsburg is complying with Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s Stay Home executive order and is working under a modified operations plan until further notice.
Students have been asked to move out of the residence halls, unless granted exceptions, and their fob access has been turned off to all campus buildings except their residence hall.
Employees (including faculty, staff, and student workers) whose roles are deemed critical to university operations will retain access to campus buildings for work purposes.
No guests are permitted in campus buildings, including family and friends, except if involved in a prearranged move out of a residence hall.
All staff, faculty and students must wear cloth face masks while in any common areas while on Augsburg property, based on Minnesota Department of Health guidelines updated in April.
submitted by abounass@augsburg.edu
Some people with current access to campus buildings have had some difficulty getting in because of a problem with card access servers. DPS is working with IT and Augsburg’s vendor to resolve the issues. If you are a critical employee or resident student with access to a campus building and you can’t get in, contact DPS at 612-330-1717 for assistance.
Augsburg is currently functioning under a modified operations plan. Fob access has been turned off except those who have critical work on campus and resident students living on campus. Those who have access are asked to maintain social distancing. Go only where you need to go and only stay on campus to complete your critical tasks. Do not linger on campus. No guests are allowed. Augsburg is trying to minimize people gathering and help custodians focus on cleaning and disinfecting student residential spaces.
Critical employees who are entering a space that’s been marked cleaned and disinfected, please take the sign down and put in a work order to have it cleaned and disinfected. If you plan to work multiple days in a row, please wait until your last visit to make a work order.
Augsburg has cloth masks in stock for critical staff and faculty and resident students. Contact Bryan Massich to receive one. Greetings Augsburg Community,
Augsburg Day Student Government has received multiple complaints regarding the electric door paddles. Students with accessibility needs find themselves unable to use them for reasons such as: them being broken, dead batteries, or jammed because of overuse. We have realized that there are students and faculty that use these accessibility paddles simply for convenience, and without a real need. This is a compliance failure to our campus’ accessibility.
We are aware that some community members may not have a visible physical disability, so there is no need to confront anyone, but to kindly remind ourselves and others about the importance of this issue.
Augsburg must have all door paddles functioning to remain ADA compliant, so please help us to achieve this goal. We are working for a more inclusive campus where everyone does their part. If you have any questions or concerns, please email stugov@augsburg.edu
Sincerely,
Augsburg Day Student Government,
Student Concerns Committee

Students with accessibility needs find themselves unable to use them for reasons such as: them being broken, dead batteries, or jammed because of overuse. We have realized that there are students and faculty that use these accessibility paddles simply for convenience, and without a real need. This is a compliance failure to our campus’ accessibility.
We are asking that if you see someone using these paddles inappropriately please kindly remind of said rules and consideration to our community members who have genuine need.

In celebration of MLK, the Admission Office will be having an MLK Day Open House Visit Event on Monday, January 20th. Our visitors will have 75 spaces marked off for them in Lot D; once the remaining spots are filled, we ask that faculty and staff park in Lot L, Lot J, or in the 21st Ave Parking Ramp across Riverside (free day permits are available in the Admission Office). In addition, the Admission Office is providing Metro passes for those who wish to park further away and commute to campus using bus or light rail. Please feel free to swing through the Admission Office (LL of Christensen) to pick up your ramp pass or Metro Pass.
We thank you again for your assistance in helping to welcome visitors and future Auggies to campus!

An Anderson Residence Hall sprinkler line on the third floor froze and burst on Wednesday afternoon, causing minor flooding. When the sprinkler line lost pressure, a fire alarm was triggered and fire trucks arrived and cleared the building. Maintenance and custodial workers arrived immediately and vacuumed up standing water and did other clean up within two hours. The sprinkler line should be fixed the week of December 16. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Bryan Massich in Facilities Management at 612-280-7447

Please review the safety tips below and always call Public Safety to report suspicious behavior.

Decisions to cancel classes are made by 6 a.m. for daytime classes and 2 p.m. for evening classes. The University uses the Augsburg Emergency Alerts system to communicate timely information on campus emergencies and class and facility changes due to severe weather. The Augsburg Emergency Alert sends subscribers a text, email, and phone call (subscribers determine which and how many alert types they wish). Only people signed up to these alerts receive them.
After the alert is sent out, information and updates about weather-related class cancellations and closures are posted on the “News” section of the Department of Public Safety website. This information is then shared with television and radio stations, and lastly on Augsburg’s Facebook and Twitter accounts.
