Personal Care Assistance Needed

submitted by barrienb@augsburg.edu

Hi! My name is Bella and I am a first year student here at Augsburg studying graphic design. I am currently trying to find personal care assistants to help me in my day to day life here on campus. This would include getting me ready for the day, helping me get set up for class and assisting me around campus. I am currently looking for people who would want to work every Sunday’s 3:00pm- 10:00pm and some hours during this summer! If you are a pre-med or nursing student, this is a great opportunity to get experience with patient care. Plus, you get to be paid to have fun!

I really enjoy getting coffee, watching Netflix, drawing, and painting. I consider all my assistants as my friends and if you work for me, you are guaranteed a good time! If you are interested, please text me at: 612-345-2855 or email me at barrienb@augsburg.edu. Hope you will join!

Selling White/Black Racer Gaming Chair

submitted by jonesee@augsburg.edu

Taking offers! Will go as low as $50. These chairs are in the $150’s zone.

Near brand new condition, Only flaw is that the chair goes back a little to far. It seems as though there’s a busted metal piece in the back. The whole chair is in tact and I will supply pictures with inquiries! 🙂

Hope you can enjoy this gaming chair more then I did, I know the struggle with how expensive nice chairs like these are. Comes with extra pillows as well for back support! 🙂

Seeking Opinions

submitted by koh@augsburg.edu

Share your suggestions for the next Batalden Convocation speaker for Spring 2022.
Each year (with the exception of last March 2020 due to the pandemic), the Batalden Program in Applied Ethics hosts a “Batalden convocation.” Historically, this has been a one-hour talk held in the chapel. Since the academic year 2018-2019, a “Batalden Visiting Scholar” approach has been taken; this allows the “Batalden Visiting Scholar” to both visit classes and with students on the same day as the convocation and, in some cases, the following day. Previous Batalden Visiting Scholars have included Professor Jin Park (Buddhist scholar), Professor Frederic Reamer (ethicist), and Professor Kwame Anthony Appiah (ethicist).

For the current Batalden Scholar in Applied Ethics (Bibiana Koh) the overarching objective of the program is to promote broad conversations in interfaith, intersectional, or interdisciplinary applied ethics that promote social justice and social change across the Augsburg University campus and the community at large. The program defines applied ethics as work that focuses on, considers, and/or addresses public and/or private moral issues. The Batalden Ethics program is generously supported by Paul ’63 and LaVonne (Olson) Batalden ’63, and Stephen ’67 and Sandra Batalden.

In hope and anticipation of a pandemic-free year, planning for the Spring 2022 convocation begins now. To have a voice in the selection of the next Batalden Convocation speaker, please share your ideas using the link below. This brief 5-minute questionnaire (using Google Forms) will be open until the end of February. Those completing the survey may also enter a lottery to win a gift e-card.

FYI, the West Bank Business Association is conducting two new fundraising efforts to support our neighborhood businesses. They include a buy one, give one restaurant gift card campaign to support local restaurants with matching funds provided by the Minneapolis Foundation. The other is a fundraising campaign supplemented by the City of Minneapolis to support the remaining costs of window repairs and additional lighting improvements.

Somali Translator Needed for Food Distribution Site

submitted by crombie@augsburg.edu

The People’s Library Mutual Aid food and supply distribution site is looking for a Somali translator to assist with visitors on-site. Duties would include providing assistance with taking food/supply orders, explaining the items available, answering questions, and minor conflict resolution.

Currently the distribution site is located on the Minneapolis College of Art and Design campus in Minneapolis and distribution days are Tuesdays and Thursdays. However, the location will be changing the beginning of August (but will remain in the Whittier neighborhood of Minneapolis).

While there is the possibility of a small stipend for their work, most of it would be on a volunteer basis (and as much time as the person is able to commit).

If you are interested in this volunteer position, please contact Lara Crombie at crombie@augsburg.edu

$454/month Room for Rent in South Minneapolis by August 1

submitted by froehlic@augsburg.edu

I have plans to move out ASAP and would love for you to take over my room by August 1st. Three of the four housemates currently living in this house have active plans to move out – not due to anything wrong with the house, which is great, but because of changing life circumstances. The cheap rent, proximity to public transit, and good property managers make this a really nice potential student house. Please email froehlic@augsburg.edu for further details!

NOTE: You will need to pass a background check and submit income verification, including 2-3 recent paystubs, to the rental company before you can be approved to move in.

ROOM DETAILS

2nd floor room with a closet, built-in wall shelves (for display or practical items), and ample room for desk, dresser, and bed. Multiple windows, including ones on the bay-style inset, come with blinds. Hard wood floors. Exterior closet/clothing rack on wheels available with room. Measurements upon request. Virtual and potential in-person tours available (with mindfulness of the active COVID-19 threat).

HOUSE DETAILS

Rent a room in a sunny and spacious 4bd/2ba house with plenty of room for storage in the basement and outdoor shed. Perks include: Free onsite laundry. Wide communal living space (living room, dining room) on first floor. Large fenced-in yard. Double carport. Plenty of on-street parking is available. Kitchen appliances were installed new 4 years ago.

Management company is Verde Property Management. Pets are allowed with a deposit.

Please note that the house has mobility issues (stairs) and no A/C.

Rent per room: $453.75/month + equally split utilities (water/trash, electric, gas, internet), 1-year lease period.

Lease period starts August 1st, 2020-July 31, 2021. Potential earlier move-in negotiable.
