Facilities Management Cleaning Practices

submitted by abounass@augsburg.edu

As faculty and staff return to Augsburg University offices, the Facilities Department wants to share information about our cleaning practices.

Custodians are focused on cleaning classrooms, common spaces, and bathrooms. As a reminder, they will clean office suites daily and individual offices one day a week once they are made aware that the space is in use again. If your trash needs to be emptied more than that, please empty it into a commonspace trash receptacle, such as those in hallways.

A sanitization station is at most building entrances with gel hand sanitizer and foaming hand sanitizer. There also are disinfectant wipes to use in your office as well as in common and shared spaces after use.

Please put in a custodial request to refill gel hand sanitizer in building dispensers if they’re empty as well as for more disinfectant wipes or for any other custodial needs.

Augsburg Mask Policy Remains the Same in Common Spaces and Outdoors

submitted by sitarami@augsburg.edu

All students, staff, and faculty must wear face coverings in any common areas (anywhere outside of an individual office or residential unit) while on Augsburg property, even after being fully vaccinated. Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz mandated, beginning on Saturday, July 25, 2020, that face coverings be worn in all public indoor spaces and indoor businesses as well as outdoors when physical distancing is not possible to maintain. “You will still need to follow guidance at your workplace,” according to the CDC guidelines for vaccinated people.

Sign Up for the Minnesota COVID-19 Vaccine Connector

The Minnesota COVID-19 Vaccine Connector is a tool that helps Minnesotans find out when, where, and how to get a COVID-19 vaccine. After you fill out a simple form, the Vaccine Connector will: alert you when you are eligible to receive a vaccine; connect you to resources to schedule a vaccine appointment; and notify you if there are vaccine opportunities in your area. You also may still work through your healthcare providers to try to get access to vaccines, as they become available.

A fire alarm went off at 11:39 a.m. Wednesday at Mortensen Hall after Facilities had been defrosting an air filter and it caught on fire. Minneapolis Fire Department firefighters and Augsburg Department of Public Safety officers responded to the scene. They inspected the building, and confirmed by noon that the fire was out and that the smoke had cleared enough that it was safe for the students who had been escorted out of the building to return.

TODAY Only: Minnesotans 65 and Older Can Sign Up for COVID-19 Vaccine Waiting List

submitted by rjohn@augsburg.edu

Gov. Tim Walz announced yesterday that Minnesotans 65 and older will have a full day, today, Tuesday, January 26, to preregister for vaccinations as part of the state’s vaccine pilot program. Individuals will be randomly selected from among those who preregister and notified on Wednesday of appointments later this week.

In order to be considered for an appointment, Minnesotans aged 65 and older must complete the pre-registration using the online portal or by calling. The portal will be available for pre-registration for 24 hours, starting at 5 a.m. today. The call center will be open today from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for pre-registration. Due to high demand, the state encourages people to use the online portal.

Phone: 833-431-2053
Online registration: mn.gov/covid19/vaccine

The vaccine is available by appointment only. Walk-ins will not be accepted.

Separately, Minnesota K-12 teachers, who are also eligible for the vaccine pilot program, will continue to sign up for vaccinations that are allotted to individual school districts. The Minnesota Department of Health has noted that the timeline for vaccinations for the general public, which may include many of the Augsburg campus community, may be late spring or summer.

General Campus Access Issues

submitted by erchula@augsburg.edu

The Department of Public Safety discovered an issue with one of the general campus accesses provided to students, staff and faculty which allows them to access academic buildings during normal building hours. This issue will only affect those students, staff and faculty who joined Augsburg during the 2018-2019 academic year and will prevent them from gaining access to the academic buildings.

We are not able to identify all persons affected by this and request that if you experience any issues getting into the academic buildings with your fob to call Public Safety at 612-330-1717 so we are able to determine if you were affected. Our staff should be able to resolve the issue immediately.

If you have any questions, please email your question to publicsafety@augsburg.edu.

How Weather Decisions Are Made

submitted by sitarami@augsburg.edu

Decisions to cancel in-person classes or move classes to an alternative format during inclement weather are made in advance and in no case later than 6 a.m. for daytime classes (including weekdays and weekends) and no later than 2 p.m. for evening classes (including weeknights and weekends).

Canceling in-person classes or moving in-person classes to alternative modalities due to weather is communicated after the decision is made in as many channels as possible including emergency notification services, media outlets, the university website, and social media. Note that no communications are shared unless the university is making a change. Students, please consult the course Moodle site for more details.

As noted in the Augsburg University Employee Handbook, complete closings of the Minneapolis campus are rare because the campus is residential. Employees with questions should contact their manager to verify if they should report to work.

Spring Parking

submitted by erchula@augsburg.edu

The Department of Public Safety will be continuing to offer free surface lot parking to all students, staff and faculty to begin the Spring Semester. If you choose to park in our surface lots you will not need to display a permit or register your vehicle through the parking services site; however, we strongly suggest registering your vehicle with contact information so DPS staff can get a hold of you if there are any issues with your vehicle.

Spring Semester underground permits for both the Oren Gateway and Luther garages are available for purchase on the Parking Services website (link on the Inside Augsburg page).

As we did with the Fall Semester, we will continue to monitor the surface lots and may require parking permits later in the semester. If we determine permits are necessary later in the semester, we will provide ample notice and opportunity to purchase permits.

Please email publicsafety@augsburg.edu with any questions.
